Gears gets novelized with The Pendulum Wars
Gears of War is taking the next big step in becoming a legitimate franchise this year with the release of a novel. Amazon.ca just posted a pre-order listing for Gears of War: The Pendulum Wars The Battle of Aspho Fields, a 353 page novel written by Steven L. Kent that aims to tell the tale before Gears (the game) takes place. In other words, it's a novel prequel. So far the pre-order page lists the book for a release later this year on August 26th which we speculate to either coincide with a Gears of War 2 game sequel (we have our dreams too) or blockbuster movie (really grand dreams). And even if the book releases without any other media accompaniment we'll still enjoy reading and expanding upon our Gears of War lore. Bring on the reading![Via Joystiq]

Seeing as how this is based in the same universe as GoW, I can only imagine it being one page, and looking like it was scribbled by a retarded orphan saying "SHIT GUNS MAKE BOOM BOOM ALIEN BAD SHOOT DAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH".
Seriously, making a novel of GoW is just flat out hillariously stupid.
It's like MS tries to make a damned novel for every god damned guy they publish.
I guess this makes about 2% more sense than a Fuzion Frenzy 2 novel. But not much!
Granted, there's going to be those insanely stupid people who appreciate GoW's absolutely abysmal story "I DUN LIKE DA DAHUURRRR GUN SHOOTY AM NO THINKY HOW I READ?"

If it's half as good as The Fall of Reach was, it's definitely a must-buy prequel novel.

GOW was always going to have a prequel, anyone with half a brain could have seen it from the game itself, they might as well have said it straight out for all the subtlety they used to highlight it. My only disappointment is that it's not going to be a whole or even part of a game, a books good but playing it would have been far more appealing.
And FFS if you're looking to rip into gaming storylines, it's not as if people went 'OMG I'm so engaged!!1!!!111!' when Halo came out, now look at all the fanboys bitching, arguing and obsessing over it :-P
