Burnout Paradise demo multiplayer expanded

Were you impressed by the Burnout Paradise demo released last month? Just remember, if you weren't impressed by the demo, you're wrong. Whatever your feelings about the demo, you should be interested to know that Criterion and EA are expanding the demo to allow more players on Xbox Live and include more Freeburn challenges. Multiplayer will now allow 8 players (up from 4) and there will be 13 new challenges added. These changes will be available starting today and will continue until January 14th. Well hey, that's just a week before the retail game comes out! Boy, that's some coincidence, huh?

The demo is fucking terrible.
Burnout is ruined.

Criterion says, "YOU'RE WRONG."
JakubK666 @ Jan 4th 2008 3:15PM
According to Criterion you don't know jack shit.If they say their game is perfect , they're right.

If I was Critereon, I wouldn't release a full page of boastful defensive responses to criticism of THE BEST DEMO OF ALL TIME EVER.
DjDATZ @ Jan 4th 2008 2:27PM

It was okay but not Burnout. I say rename it Burnout: Not Burnout.
Yeah I said the same thing at Joystiq.

I didn't think the demo was that bad, I guess because I've never played a Burnout title before.
Chester @ Jan 4th 2008 2:58PM
I love this game, but the fact that they removed the crash mode, SUCKS!!! That was my favorite part of the burnout series!
Anticrawl @ Jan 4th 2008 3:00PM
Yeah I really hope the crash system in Paradise was just a joke and they'll show us the real thing come launch day.

Don't like the demo? Vote with your wallet.

They should lose the ego, realize free roaming doesn't work for every game and that perhaps the old burn out games sold so well because they was good and the people playing them, never wanted free roaming.
Never wanted that style of play and never wanted such drastic changes. All the expanded demos in the world wont save it cause they've ruined the burn out formula, they've changed what it was.
If they truly think the new version is more fun than the old burn out games then they need to shut down and never make a video game again, cause they've lost their touch.
Anticrawl @ Jan 4th 2008 6:09PM
It does ruin the sense of danger, speed and lacks the sense of urgency the others had. Not to mention they really butchered the crash system. I can't bump into cars going 120mph and expect them to slam into the wall and flip out/explode. Instead they make a thumping noise and there are a few sparks... oooh fun.
Anticrawl @ Jan 4th 2008 6:10PM
By bumping into them I mean hitting them on their side while both cars are moving in the same direction.

I don't mind the free roaming. In fact, I love the free roaming, especially the ease of adding in a friend at any time.
Where I think they missed the mark:
- No split screen (this is a must for Burnout series)
- No easy way to try races (there should be a menu for those who liked the old burnout style in addition to being able to drive up to any event you want)
Thing that are a HUGE improvement:
- Being able to create your OWN races on live with friends!
- Free roaming with friends online! (I know I mentioned this already)
Who's with me on this?
Valde @ Feb 6th 2008 9:04PM
What?! There is no split screen! You have to be kidding! Every other racing game has split screen. That was one of the main reasons I bought the game!
I'm returning it.
