British Telecom to launch 360's IPTV

During their CES keynote, Microsoft took stage and also announced that British Telecom will be the first company to launch the Xbox 360 IPTV service in the UK. British Telecom is the largest telecommunication company in the UK and will eventually allow customers to purchase Xbox 360 consoles for IPTV service. No release date was announced for the program to be up and running, but if history is any indicator of future events then we should see 360 IPTV up and running by around ... 2010. We kid, we kid!

I have BT Broadband, and have a contract for another 13months. I am also in the market for a new 360, bigger HDD but also with a 2nd 360 so the 120gb drive isn't an option really.

Hopefully I might get a good deal, and as my 360 is next to my router IPTV would be reliable for me.

Com'on BT release it soon.

YES!!! Finally, Britain gets something before the Americans!

let's just hope they can send discs with a firmware update on to current BT customers who already own 360s when the service is started.

BT Vision has already been going for a year and a bit now, and it allows freeview (google it) channels to be watched with your aerial or on-demand content via broadband connection. I wonder how this is going to play out on the 360, so soon after the release of XBL Video marketplace over here. If 360 version has the same features as it's older brother, i would have thought it would make movie downloads on BTV useless.

It's good that this could help get more 360's into homes but personally it doesn't interest me at all.

I already pay 20 odd quid a month for Sky, so unless it can replace that I can't see me shelling out X amount of pounds every month for ANOTHER television service.

And I'd rather see the 360 excel at one thing (games) than have a 'jack-of-all-trades, master of none' scenario.

And how is Live going to cope with all this??? It's already fucked from the 'unprecedented number of users' (or whatever drivel they came out with) already.

HOW COULD THEY NOT FORSEE THAT?

I've lost a lot of confidence in MS these past few weeks, and there wasn't much to start off with...

I'm the same as you Boff. I pay 25 bucks a month for TV, phone and broadband. Don't fancy paying more cash for another service (unless it turns out to be shit hot...) BT's technical support in India though....

I'm definately going to look into getting this. Seeing as I already have an Xbox 360 and BT Broadband. Coupled with the fact that there's no compulsory subscription for the service, I'll be singing and dancing all the way to HD Tellyshows. :D

ive just posted Major Nelson to ask more questions on this, currently the BT vision's V-Box gets freeview from a aerial input, how will the xbox 360 get freeview with now aerial. We're either looking at another console or some kinda adapter, i have the 120gb hdd so does this mean i have to get whole new console direct from bt? I hope it's just gonna be the matter of an adapter of some sort!
