Strap on your tennies, Lode Runner is XBLA bound

Our peeps over at Joystiq received the scoop and some hands on time with a "very early build" of Lode Runner this morning and, according to them, the re-worked 3D art is already looking good and the gameplay is tried and true. Just take a look at the screenshots in the gallery below and try to tell us it doesn't look fun. Developer Tozai also revealed that they'll be adding some new goodness to the game including multiplayer modes like the four player Hang On and two player mode Journey. Lode Runner on the XBLA still has plenty of development to go through as no release date or pricing details have been announced, but Joystiq was told that a 2008 release was likely. Also, we should mention that our curiosity mirrors Joystiq's as we can't help but wonder if the traditional level editor will be included in the XBLA version. Because we all know level editors are teh hawtness lately, especially Lode Runner editors.

Awesome, looks cool already. A level editor would be great.

It was never fair that Lode Runner got such credit and attention, and the far-superior Jumpman and Jumpman Jr. were never seen again after their initial release in the 80s.
Lode Runner is good, but I always had a lot more fun with the Jumpman games.
And why is it always the same PC games getting ported forward? Why not something else for once? Something they haven't remade a few dozen times?
I nominate the following PC/C=64 games:
Art of War
Law of the West
Mail Order Monsters
Archon/Archon II
Star Control (AKA "Ur-Quan Masters")
Starflight
The Ultima series
The King's Quest series
Impossible Mission
Raid on Bungling Bay
Outlaws
Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle
Indiana Jones & The Fate of Atlantis
Wizardry series
Phantasie series
Warlords II Deluxe
And so on. Some of these saw re-release on the NES, and some have crappy "sequels", but they've all seen limited release in the 21st century, and they're all great games that are MUCH more worthy of nostalgia play than overdone crap like Pac-Man, Mario, and Sonic.
Hell, I'd trade every Sonic game ever made for a good HD and online remake of Mail Order Monsters.
EA, Epyx, Br0derbund, and all those other companies used to be designer-driven in those days, during the supposed "video game crash." Those of us gaming on the Commodore 64 or IBM PC weren't seeing any shortage of great games... It's just that the gaming industry seems to want to ignore those games because they were so heavily pirated, and companies didn't make near as much as they should have on them.
There was no "crash"--- People were PLAYING games, it's just that the technology was new, and hackers were generous, and a lot fewer people were BUYING those games.
However, I bet a lot of us would buy remakes of those games now, if given a chance.
Screw giving me remakes of 80s console crap. Give me some classic computer games.

Yeah, LODERUNNER was on the Commodore 64! It was my favorite PC game at the time. Loderunner will be my favorite game on live! Great News!
