Tyler B hints at Gears sequel releasing this year [update]
Update: We just got in touch with Tyler Bleszinski and he clarified his remarks. He says that he has absolutely no information regarding GoW2's release date and was basing this year's release off of rumors from Quartermann of EGM. So, Tyler B doesn't have any juicy GoW2 details and we don't have any release date confirmation. And we were getting excited too. Humf.Okay, we'll be upfront and say this news is a bit of a stretch, but slow news days warrant speculation stories. That's just how it works. So, when we spotted a credible source mentioning Gears of War 2 releasing this year, we had to pounce.
Our friend and fellow gaming enthusiast over at Gearheads of War, Tyler Bleszinski (who is the older bro of Cliffy B) posted about his latest Gears gaming experience and how it compared to Call of Duty 4. In summary, Tyler (like many of us) doesn't care for Gears' hit and miss and ever so random shotgun and Boom Shotting. Now this is where the juicy speculation kicks in. He goes on to say that "I had a blast even with the Gears hiccup. I'm thinking I'm just going to need to wait for the sequel later this year. In the meantime, I've got COD 4 to keep me company." Wha? Did you catch that? Tyler specifically references to playing a Gears sequel later this year. Holy double w00t, w00t confirmation!
Truthfully though, Tyler has always been open about the fact that he doesn't get into details surrounding Cliffy B's work, doesn't get any insider information and experiences the games and news as reported on the net. So, his comment about playing a Gears sequel in 2008 could simply be his own speculation with no concrete facts backing it up. Kind of like how we speculate about Gears of War 2 here at X3F. But, for the sake of juicy rumor fun, it's somewhat possible Cliffy B's brother knows something we don't and accidentally revealed Gears 2's 2008 release. We say, spill your guts Tyler Bleszinski. Tell us all the Gears of War 2 knowledge you do or don't have.

I'm johnart at GearheadsofWar.com and I really do think that Tyler doesn't know about Gears 2 much like you and I and is only speculating. Our community however does expect it this year. X3F reporting that MS and Epic have the largest booth adjacent to one another brought some credibility to the possibility. Even if it's a Fall 2009 release, we won't be too disappointed because we know Gears 2 will innovate significantly and the 360 delivers the games all year. We could play 2007 games all this year and be fine.

There isn't a "chapter 6" guys. I have the PC version, and there isn't much of a difference other than the better graphics.
They added 5 new chapters, not a new "Act", and they added those chapters to the 5th Act, and everything takes place before you get on the train, where you have to lower a bridge and are being chased by the Brumak from Act 4. The Brumak killing was fun, but not worth the points.

This is great speculation news. I loved Gears, couldn't beat that damn general at end on the hardest setting. Still trying every few months or so I'll pop in the disc and give a go trying to get that last campaign achievement.

2 players, 1 with torque bow and shotty, the other with sniper and chainsaw gun. from cover (together) try to unload t-bow and sniper from a distance with headshots from sniper (if u miss, start over). when out of torque shots, flank and get his attention with chainsaw-gun, hit with all grenades and chop him down with the shotty. takes quite a few tries.

He must get access to an Alpha or something. Even if he doesn't get that much insider info, he must surely get to play with it months before release. I expect around Novemeber they will have an almost final build, for a release sometime in 2009.

I have no advanced knowledge of anything. I was going off of a Quartermann piece in EGM that claimed we would see both Gears 2 and God of War 3 in 2008. Quartermann (their rumor mole) is usually pretty dead on, so I usually take what appears in his column as gospel.
I don't usually talk with my brother about his work, but I would really love to have Gears 2 this year!

I'm just pulling your collective legs. It really is coming out this year. I actually sleep in my Bros basement, so i get all the juicy info ASAP. It's how i get all the hot Gears chicks!

I think we will hear about it next month at GDC. In the meantime dont they want a $hitload of ca$h from us for the extra PC maps and extra chapter??? WTF?!! Do it already!!!

Again, it isn't another "Act" which is what you were referring to. The PC version has the same 5 Acts that the 360 has, with 5 extra chapters in the 5th Act. Its not worth the points it would cost, although killing that Brumak's bitch ass was fun.

Funny thing is I was watching TV the other night and a commercial for Unreal Tournament 3 came on. For the first few shots I was thinking "Gears 2? I would have heard about this by now..."

All I know is that GOW owns all and 2 is going to be quite the event. It'll have a shot at busting the sales records Halo 3 set. Oh yeah, and If I was making GOW2, my brother would know whats up...Hrmph.

Maybe he just means that starting later this year he is going to begin to wait for the sequel. So that could mean, the game can come out years from now, he's just not waiting for it yet.
