Video: Bionic Commando Rearmed for XBLA (hint: it's awesome)

Okay, we're just going to come right out and say it: the Bionic Commando remake for Xbox Live Arcade looks more fun than the upcoming retail remake. That's our opinion, and we're sticking to it (until proven otherwise anyway). Entitled Bionic Commando Rearmed, it's based off of the NES classic and features scads (scads, we say!) of upgrades. First and foremost are the splendid 3D graphics complete with buttery smooth animation. Throw in new weapons (including grenades), new bionic arm abilities, and two player co-op and Capcom has basically created our single greatest childhood dream (yes, we were lonely children). Oh, but wait, there's more. It looks like Rearmed will unlock a new player skin for the retail Bionic Commando. The good news: you can drop the dreadlocks. The bad news: the original Bionic Commando didn't exactly have a great coif either. Hit the "read" link for a preview over at IGN.

To date I have not purchased a single Arcade title. This may change things. Bionic Commando may have been my single most loved NES game.

Or...you could just go with a real gamers console and get a 360. The Wii's 3rd party software is 98% shovelware.

I remember saying when they released the trailer for the new one that they had to bring the original to XBLA. I'm so excited that they revamped it too! It looks great.

This will be a definte purchase on my end. And they threw in co-op play? Bonus. Not sure the pyshics deal, picking up and throwing of barrels, is an asset to the game or not.

I couldn't care less if the Wii gets this. Buy a system that supports your "hardcore" interests in that case lol.

In any event, this looks good. And it's based on the NES version, which is good. I'm not sure if the person who said it was based on the arcade was being sarcastic or not, but the interview (and video) are very clear about it.

I have only paid for maybe 3 XBLA games tops, but this...i have to have. I was just thinking the other day that in gaming, its annoying htat most developders look at new technology like "if we can do it, we should" I miss 2d games and i think that if a AAA developer could put signifigant effort on a 2d title and finding ways to use the extra horsepower of next gen for 2d;we could see some AWESOME games. This title is a great example. Just because the technology exists to make fully fledged out 35 environments, doesn't always mean its the most fun way to make a game.

That video looked like lots of fun! I'm really liking the facelift they've given it. Is co-op local or online?

But yeah, I miss my 2D games :o( and like Stranger said, just because they can do certain things doesn't mean they have to.

And everyone knows 36 environments is where it's at. 35 environments is so last-gen. Pfffft.

This brings me back to my childhood. I will be buying this for 800 - 1200 points for sure. With Bionic Commando & Symphony of the Night, the only big childhood favorite game I need to complete my XBLA collection is Herzog Zwei (sp?) from the Sega Genesis...Oh, and maybe Goldeneye, but that doesn't seem like its going to happen.

yes, this remake is nicer, and i may still get it, but.... the best XBLA remake i've seen so far, and the only i've purchased is Prince of Persia. You have to admit that that remake looks so beautiful and impressive. The bionic commando looks nicer, but not that impressive. i'll buy it at 600pts.

Great Caesar's Ghost! Start scheduling co-op games now folks. Don't be stuck playing with... by, by? Don't be stuck playing by yourself, this looks like a must-have party game.
