Video: RSV2 to feature a re-worked reward system
Ubisoft just released a new Rainbow Six Vegas 2 development diary video today with lead designer Philippe Therien talking about the changes RSV2 will see, some of the environments and the new upgraded reward system. Which, we must admit, is pretty cool.
In general, Ubisoft completely overhauled RSV2's reward and upgrade system that rewards players for every action or objective completed in the game. The rewards are broken into three categories, Experience Points, Ranks and A.C.E.S. Experience Points are earned through killing enemies, reaching checkpoints and completing objectives and can be tracked on the new XP meter at the bottom of the HUD. Once the XP meter is full, the player will unlock a new Rank which in turn unlocks new clothing and visual enhancements for your soldier. The final reward is A.C.E.S. and are earned through Close Quarters, Assault and Marksmanship feats you complete which eventually unlock weapon upgrades. It may sound a bit confusing, but watch the video, listen to Mr. Therien and everything should make sense. And did we mention that ALL character upgrades will not only save to your multiplayer and campaign profiles, but can also be earned through multiplayer, single player campaign and single player co-op gaming? Suh-weet!

Sounds just like COD4's system in MP.
Rip off?
Can't say I care if it is. I like it.
Grant @ Jan 17th 2008 6:28PM
Hey, if they had to rip off any part of COD4, this would be the best choice.
i think this will make the replay value on RSV2 much more than the original.
mattclarkie @ Jan 17th 2008 2:48PM
This has advantages and disadvantages.
Advantage is that I can unlock stuff whilst playing SP, which I think is a trend that games should all take.
Disadvantage SP will have limited weapons at start, which will make the game less fun, and my playing style may mean that I won't unlock weapons I really want.
I hope that it is implemented well, it is a good idea, but could easily ruin the game.
Here's to the game being the best it can be.
Justin Campbell @ Jan 17th 2008 3:02PM
Hey, we fucked up the first game, so here's the same one again, but actually finished.
I'll still buy it.
Cal @ Jan 17th 2008 4:20PM
For a 'fucked up' game it was a LOT better than most 360 FPSs.
Rob2251 @ Jan 17th 2008 3:04PM
looks good, cant wait!
Chester @ Jan 17th 2008 3:09PM
This is totally COD4:Vegas
MASTERTOOL @ Jan 17th 2008 4:35PM
indeed, this is cod4:vegas (rip off) but well, if u c the bright side, it's pretty cool.
yohannefletcher @ Jan 17th 2008 3:25PM
Am i the only one who noticed that they've added running just like in COD4?
NATO_Duke @ Jan 17th 2008 3:32PM
Niiiiice.
Big Filth @ Jan 17th 2008 3:35PM
anything they can learn from cod4 is good..
think about it. how can this game even compare to cod4 without some of these features.
not being able to sprint in a game like this is unacceptable..
(yes I am talking about hal0)
and who doesnt love leveling up??
kudos to these guys for being smart.
Frank @ Jan 17th 2008 3:42PM
Can't wait for this game... and I'm also of the mind that "borrowing" from COD4 is a good thing.
I loved the first Vegas.
Tim @ Jan 17th 2008 4:11PM
Completely 100% agree!! I don't think that borrowing good game mechanics is a bad idea. Its when you don't improve on them or don't add anything new is when something becomes stale.
Cal @ Jan 17th 2008 4:22PM
Borrowing ideas is how games advance and improve I wish we had sprinting in R6V, walking around with the package didn't make much sense...
yohannefletcher @ Jan 17th 2008 3:56PM
well said, anything learnt from COD4 is a good thing
Luigi Soprano @ Jan 17th 2008 4:21PM
R6:V2 is not like COD4. It's just like the first one where tactics are priority one where COD4 is tactics and running and gunning, whichever you choose. They did add the running like COD4 but I see total reason for it since I hated how slowly the player walked in some cases.
Anyways, R6:V2 is looking AWESOME and I'm getting it day one.
Stephen @ Jan 17th 2008 4:23PM
after those first two trailers that were terrible i was beginning to worry, but this actually looks really cool. even if it does use some things from COD 4, its not like thats a bad thing.
pawn power314 @ Jan 17th 2008 4:53PM
did anyone else see the guy "sprint" (its at 2:35 thru the movie)... looks like a COD move to me. i really hope they dont ruin my favorite game by turning it into COD:Vegas!!!!!
ccc @ Jan 17th 2008 5:20PM
COD this and that COD4 modern Warefare is sweet but in the end is little more than a RB6V wanna be with all the tactical stradigy taken out. No that RB6V2 will have sprinting this game is complete.
chris @ Jan 17th 2008 6:45PM
yet again... ROCK HARD !!!
Benjamin09 @ Jan 17th 2008 5:29PM
COD single player was not tactical, it was a run and gun. Bad guys didnt stop spawning in certain areas until you pressed on thru....
If they are learning from COD then great. Games should learn from other games, turning the next game into a better game and so on.
Personally I like Rainbow Six better then COD4 but thats me. I can not wait for this game and to play it co-op with my brothers, hopefully it can be up to 4 players on co-op.
SadisticHam @ Jan 17th 2008 5:39PM
Lets hope the community isn't made up of Sheep that play the same freaking map (calipso casino) over and over AND OVER again.
That got extremely boring and you had to search long and hard to find much else.
mike shea @ Jan 18th 2008 4:45PM
Rainbow six now uses playlists instead
so, im sure you wont be choosing the maps.
IncredibleBulk92 @ Jan 17th 2008 6:33PM
Wow that looks pretty fricking cool, integrating SP and MP like that sounds very interesting. Never really god into vegas online modes, they seemed a bit too frantic, maybe these guys should borrow hardcore mode from CoD4 too lol
Also online coop ruled
ccc @ Jan 17th 2008 8:27PM
I am happy to see that some other readers here understand that RBV62 is not a cod4 rip off but more like the other way around.
If I had to choose between the two games honestly Rainbow 6 Vegas would easley be my choice.
This game is in many ways to me UBI soft's flagship game and definatly leads the pack of Tom Clancy Titles that have been converted to a game.
One of my favorite features in RB6V is the fact that its a fps that zooms out to 3rd when you cling to walls. This feature should have been present in Halo 3 and Cod4. Talk about a really great feature in a game and noone has managed to follow suit.
Now that RB6V2 will have sprinting(COD4 was not the first to have this), this game is gonna rock hard and will most likley again win Multiplayer game of the year.
Boff @ Jan 18th 2008 5:16AM
The new features are welcome additions, I like the fact you can rank up either through SP, Co-op, or MP.
EVERYONE loves levelling up. You'd be lying if you said you didn't ;o)
mattclarkie @ Jan 18th 2008 5:23AM
Firstly, is it sprint, or have they just made it adaptive walking. Games where how far the stick is forward affects the speed of movement.
I can see the following achievements.
Max out Assault
Max out Marksmanship
Max out Close Quarter
Max out Aces/unlock everything
Tarl @ Jan 18th 2008 11:45AM
Yes, but will it have split-screen online play. My poor wife is feeling left out not being able to play anything online with me anymore.
George Arauz @ Jan 18th 2008 2:14PM
Just not as fun as COD
mike shea @ Jan 18th 2008 4:47PM
how can you say that without even playing the game?
...people like you bother me.
Ross Haldeman @ Jan 22nd 2008 9:52PM
o yea, are they still going to deny some achievements without any recourse to getting them unlocked no matter how many times we do them, as stated in the description, and avoiding any reply to the same when asked for help on their web site,,
as you may know, we all play for achievements,it's an important part of the game..
cheers
