Epic: No more Gears of War DLC. Us: Duh?
Talking with IGN, Epic Games and Microsoft Game Studios confirmed the news and made it official: there will be no more Gears of War downloadable content. (Insert fake surprised face here.) A representative told IGN that "we don't have anything planned for [Gears of War] right now in terms of DLC", but also mentioned that the door is always open for new DLC to be made. Just none is planned now. And we'll be the first in line to kick that door of possibility shut.As much as we love our Gears, we feel that after six additional maps, a new gametype and additional 250 gamerscore, it's time for Epic to move on. Move onto something a little more important, say a sequel? We'll happily take no more Gears DLC for Epic to release Gears of War 2 as soon as possible. Hell, we'll even give up the Annex content if it would have moved Gears 2's development along. Just give us our sequel this year.

I haven't played Gears since Halo 3, I haven't played much Halo 3 after my love affair with COD 4, GOW2...I'm waiting ;)
Hopefully this game will be uber awesome!
Matt @ Jan 23rd 2008 12:26PM
Toro, I'm the exact same way. I figure Gears 2 is about the only thing that will get me off COD4
Anticrawl @ Jan 23rd 2008 12:53PM
@Matt
Yeah same here dude, Gears of War 2 is about the only thing that will get me off..... I mean what? Nothing, nevermind, move along folks.
smak @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:52PM
Hopefully they will make a game that supports more than 8 shitty players, and maybe next time you'll actually be able to change the maps and game types without tearing down the room. You know, BASIC features every multiplayer game should have. Your choice: one map over and over, or ALL maps over and over. Thanks.
Josh @ Jan 23rd 2008 11:25AM
So we don't ever get to play the extra PC chapters? Screw this. Screw Epic.
Bravo6 @ Jan 23rd 2008 11:31AM
Yah I'm still bitter about that too.
Larry *not allowed to say cheevo* @ Jan 23rd 2008 11:41AM
Yeah, it sucks... but they DID say that it would NEVER come to the console. I believe cliffyb said that it wouldn't be released to the console to give everyone a reason to buy the computer game. I'll never buy that game to play those extra levels, especially after that comment.
Royale @ Jan 23rd 2008 11:59AM
It was also said that Gears would never be released on the PC...
Anticrawl @ Jan 23rd 2008 12:56PM
Yeah, damn Cliffy and his lies. He is about to be on par with Mark Rein on the hate-o-meter.
He actually says here that it will never come to the PC and would be an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Video interview where that is stated, what a douchebag. Could atleast give us that extra content, figure a way to make it work because the boss battles in GoW were terribly laughable even on insane while almost being awful enough to bore one into a coma.
Anticrawl @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:01PM
It is said at 3:40 into the video if anyone is curious enough to know. Watching the entire video may disappoint Gears fans as to what the game could have been by the way he describes it.
Knight Marquise @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:33PM
@anticrawl...
I'm with you there. I simply can not stand Mr. Rein, he's a douche.
Zeus.:God @ Jan 23rd 2008 7:11PM
Anticrawl, I can't believe how stupid you're being. Microsoft paid Epic to create an exclusive game for the 360. Well, Microsoft owns the rights to Gears of War, and at the time, Epic knew nothing of Microsoft's intentions to move it to the PC, as I'm pretty sure Games for Windows LIVE wasn't out yet, or was just barely coming into existence. At the time it was an Xbox 360 exclusive, and then Microsoft pays them to make a PC version with exclusive content. It is not Cliff's fault. If anything, you can blame Microsoft, because ridiculing someone for doing what they are paid to do is retarded, especially when that certain someone is creating revolutionary game engines.
On top of that, the "5 new chapters" in Gears for the PC are not anything special. Yeah, you get to fight the Brumak, but no, the chapters are not worth the time, effort, or money to port to the 360, nor would they be worth the points to purchase them. I know because I have both versions of the game.
HEY!!! @ Jan 23rd 2008 11:32AM
i feel the same way about it josh
Boff @ Jan 23rd 2008 11:37AM
Would have been nice to have the extra PC bits released on the 360 but no biggie. Here's hoping the sequel can live up to expectations!!
xFenixKnightx @ Jan 23rd 2008 12:07PM
Epic: No more Gears of War DLC. Us: Duh?
No its more like this:
Epic: No more Gears of War DLC. Us: Why not motherfuckers, gives us the new pc maps and extra chapters you assholes. Fuck the PC!!!
There, thats more like it =)
Jayu @ Jan 23rd 2008 12:12PM
I still can't download ANY of the DLC content for GoW because of the region lock so screw Epic, thank you very much.
Cal @ Jan 23rd 2008 12:46PM
If it means getting Gears 2 earlier then yay =)
I'll need something to move onto after Vegas 2...
JammerX19 @ Jan 24th 2008 7:30AM
To be honest, I never understood that mentality. It's $60 out of my wallet every time a game comes out. The idea of upgrading and augmenting an existing purchase just makes more sense. That said, if the new version is a quantum leap over the original (as CoD4 or Halo 3 are over their predecessors), then I would consider it. But in some cases they aren't (thinking way back to MechAssault 2 and others like that).
john paul @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:19PM
u have to remember that epic grew up on the pc
so they ha e to give respect to it (lol)
SG HighCharity @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:03PM
Come on guys... its not like WE, the xbox 360 community, ever made the game successful and most playable in the time its been released and before Halo 3 was released so we don't deserve anything...
*smartass look w/ eye rolling*
Grant @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:25PM
they've provided enough extra content.
they have already milked the shit out of it.
they made one great game and it toots their horns for a year and a half?
I think Gears had the success it did because the 360 was lacking a truly great game, but it was not anywhere near perfect. It gave people a taste of what great visuals could be, and gave everyone a preview of what the 360/all current HD consoles, could actually do.
I hope Bleszinski and his crew keep this in mind for 2 and perfect the game play a little more than the original. The visuals were great, and they should keep it up, but even better playability could make GOW 2 Epic.
Ryan @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:35PM
Wow, what is with the bitch-fest in here? Gears got as much, if not more, downloadable content as any other game out there. It's been out for one and a quarter years already and with a sequel potentially on the near horizon, no game is going to add new DLC at that point.
We're all spoiled by the wealth of AAA titles out on the 360 right now, but let's not forget that Gears was a phenomenal game back before there were many great games on the system, and it did a ton to push the system forward.
Cliffy B said from the get-go that the extra PC stuff would not make it to the 360 because it was developed differently. And who cares if the game came out on the PC a full freakin' year later? It's a year late and supposedly the controls don't work well with a kb/mouse, it requires a very high end rig to play, and it uses Live for Windows which almost no one has. It's not like they released it on the PS3.
And smak, in regards to post #4, Gears of War would suck with more than 8 players. It's not that kind of run and gun, jump into the chaos type game.
Zeus.:God @ Jan 23rd 2008 7:16PM
Agreed... HOWEVER, Gears PC doesn't require an insane PC to run it. I run at absolute max settings at a resolution of 1680x1050, and I have a relatively "tame" system.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz, XFX 680i SLI motherboard, EVGA 8800GT SuperClocked 512MB, 2GB of OCZ Reaper HPC DDR 2 PC2-6400 800MHz RAM, and a Rosewill 850 Watt power supply. That set up, including drives and case cost around 1300 bucks. The monitor is 350, and with a cheaper system, you can still run the game at max settings.
Jayu @ Jan 24th 2008 10:36AM
@Zeus.:God
If that's 'tame' then I'm Jesus.
