Xbox 360 Fancast 053 -- Number One Podcast of 2008

We're going to be honest with you fanboys. It's been a long day. As such, the Fancast is arriving a little later than we would have liked. Rest assured though, we had good reason. What reason could that be, you ask? Why, so we could bring you a brand new enhanced podcast, that's why! Now, before you whoop, holler, and jump for joy, you should know that said enhanced podcast has not yet been set up with its own RSS feed just yet. After all, we wouldn't want our subscribers with unsupported hardware to be left out in the cold. As such, it's only available as a direct download this week. We're doing our best to get a new feed set up, but it could be a while. Still, however you choose to listen, make sure you do, because this week's show is a doozy. Download it in whatever manner you so choose below.
[iTunes] Subscribe to the Podcast directly in iTunes (MP3).
[Zune] Subscribe to the Podcast directly in Zune Marketplace (MP3).
[RSS MP3] Add the Xbox 360 Fanboy Podcast feed (in MP3) to your RSS aggregator and have the show delivered automatically.
[AAC] Download the enhanced AAC directly.

Nice swipe at MN, guys. :) :) :)
BTW...appreciate the thoughtfulness on not strapping us with a new format which may/may not work with our hardware.
Downloading the Monday Fix....now.
OBM @ Jan 28th 2008 7:26PM
w00t w00t! A nice pick-me-up to the normal depressing monday!
TiltedCircle @ Feb 14th 2008 3:31PM
Nope, just more depressing monotone comments. Music maybe? Something to keep me awake? Sorry but its true.
Disco Ball @ Jan 28th 2008 7:27PM
Could you at least make the itunes feed the enhanced version, since if you are using itunes, I am pretty sure you have an ipod.
Richard Mitchell @ Jan 29th 2008 9:27AM
That's the plan, yeah. But right now, the iTunes feed *is* our only RSS feed. In other words, we have to set up a second RSS feed before we can do that.
Jayslacks @ Jan 28th 2008 8:33PM
You can't defend a fact! Love it.
lharmon @ Jan 28th 2008 8:44PM
Oh great! It was all I could do not to comment on the lack of fancast goodness. w00t!
Tim @ Jan 28th 2008 8:48PM
Is the link broken...because it wont load:(
Deck @ Jan 28th 2008 8:56PM
Thanks for making my commute enjoyable tomorrow morning!
Halwende @ Jan 28th 2008 9:10PM
I shudder to comprehend the license issue(s) around TV themes on GHIII, but I would pay 500 MS Points for 3-track pack if it had the Macgyver theme!! :P
Jayslacks @ Jan 28th 2008 9:22PM
I love this show. I never knew that my halo 360 had a falcon chip. Awesome.
Arnie @ Jan 28th 2008 9:50PM
Sweet fancast, I thought I would have the patience to download it and listen to it tomorrow at work but I needed my fix and needed it right now.
Nice bloopers section this time, I noticed Richard that you are now beyond caring when it comes to bleeping out expletives!! Good for you though I would carry an advisory for kids!!
Keep up the good works
Arnie @ Jan 28th 2008 9:53PM
I would love to have The Wonder Years theme song on Rock Band(if its not already there). Also would like the Portal song in a couple of different versions. When we are on theme songs, there are some really classic movie ones which they should put up there like the Slash rendition of GodFather theme music and Chariots of Fire theme song, Last of the Mohicans theme music, Lord of the Rings Battle Music!!
Sparks @ Jan 28th 2008 10:35PM
Sooooo...about the 360 shortage you mentioned in the podcast. What about the old rumors about a 360 HD-DVD 360? There was word that Gates cut a lot about HD-DVD at his CES keynote. What if they were going to announce it at CES then when Warners dropped the hammer they knew that an HD-DVD 360 would be a huge flop so they pulled it? Now they have to retool to put DVD drives back in?
Just my conspiracy theory. Keep up the good work.

Halwende @ Jan 28th 2008 10:18PM
LOTR battle music is a great idea - what about some of The Matrix fight scene music tracks too? That one from the big Agent Smith rumble in Matrix Reloaded would be fun
Tiggle @ Jan 29th 2008 12:08AM
great show! Keep up the good work.
Aero @ Jan 29th 2008 5:01AM
So are there going to be more Enhanced Podcasts from now on? I plan to get the enhanced one, but it'd be awkard for me it not being in my podcast menu so I'll wait for a feed.
Richard Mitchell @ Jan 29th 2008 9:30AM
There will be one every week, yes. Hopefully we'll have a new feed set up next week.
Deezul @ Jan 29th 2008 8:01AM
I had difficulty trying to track down a Pro and an Elite after returning a broken one to Best Buy. I hit 6 Best Buys in the DC area over two days, and their computer said none in stock, none in order. However, the two days after trying to find an Elite, a friend called that a Best Buy that I checked earlier, had them on a Monday. I know Best Buy gets trucks on Monday, so I guess I should have just waited. So they are out there. The Elite I got seems to be the new hardware as it is much quieter than the old Pro I had an the Halo 3 edition I have.
anthony @ Jan 29th 2008 7:57AM
Dustin have you played Call of Duty 4 yet?
Have any of you guys played it as a matter of interest?
I would like to hear your views on the game as it is the No.1 game on live at the moment and it sounds like none of you guys have played it, which is a bit strange.
Richard Mitchell @ Jan 29th 2008 9:33AM
I can't speak for Alexander, but both Dustin and I were in the beta and loved it. It's also in my Gamefly queue, but there are just so many games to finish from last year. Once I'm done with Overlord I'm moving on to Mass Effect because all the controversy re-piqued my interest. COD4 may be after that.
Larry *not allowed to say cheevo* @ Jan 29th 2008 10:11AM
Wow... Richard, you are going to wait to finish Mass Effect before you move on? The single player on COD is pretty good.
Richard Mitchell @ Jan 29th 2008 10:17AM
I've only got a one game Gamefly account, so yeah :)
Larry *not allowed to say cheevo* @ Jan 29th 2008 11:04AM
Look Richard, its' a fact... and you can't argue a fact.
I know that doesn't make any sense, but I just wanted to say it. I'll be saying it all day at work, at random moments, for no reason.
AJ @ Jan 29th 2008 9:51AM
Good Show as always. And thanks for the confirmation that "Something is up" with the supply of 360's. I've been looking pretty intently since after Xmas and they are just not there in many parts of the country.
I've been researching the rollout of the "Falcon's" since Xmas and I have a few tidbits to add to the conspiracy theorys. First off, basically all of the 360s manufactured after November have been "Falcons." (BTW, only a small percentage of the Halo3 360's were falcons, but yes they were some of the first falcons found in the wild). So basically what I am saying is they had been making exclusively falcons for about 2 months already and most older Zephyr motherboards had already been pushed out of the channel.
AJ @ Jan 29th 2008 10:04AM
part 2:
The falcons took about 3 months to slowly switch over all the assembly lines in the main 2 assembly plants. (Team FDOU and CSON) Each plant having several production lines, being switched over to the 65nm cpu one at a time, so as not to cut supply lines entirely. But this also made it hard to pick out a falcon system because there was really no hard change over date to look for. At least until the 360's manufactured in Nov. hit retail.
So why would the supply line be cut now. Speculation (Just SPECULATION mind you) on some boards is that they may be shutting down production to also just go ahead and get the "Jasper" chipset fabbed out asap, rather than the earlier announced "Summer/Fall" 2008.
I hope this might be true as the Jasper boards will have the 65nm CPU AND GPU and should be much more stable and cooler. Perhaps MS has finally added up all the cost of the RRoD fiasco and just decided to put an end to the problem once and for all. Not that even the Jasper chipset would eliminate RRoD's, but at least get them down to a 3% or less failure rate.
Or..... it could just be a screw on MS's part. That would be the simpler explanation wouldn't it?
JAKEJAX @ Jan 29th 2008 1:03PM
Thanks for reading my e-mail guys! My last name is actually pronounced 2-E, but you didn't do a bad job most people pronounce it toe-hey. The music during the break rocked! Keep up the great work!
anthony @ Jan 29th 2008 2:00PM
Thanks for the reply Richard. Enjoy Mass effect its a great game, even without the nudity. Overlord is next up on my rental list, but after what you said in the podcast I think I might cancel it, I hate buggie games
Larry *not allowed to say cheevo* @ Jan 30th 2008 12:25PM
The Fancast was great, but where was Dustin's review of Cloverfield!!?!?!?!
I also heard ALEX give a sob story of not being able to play "The Club" demo because of RROD issues. Didn't that demo come out on PSN weeks ago?
Finally, Dustin should have a little X3F Halo Achievement event. Readers could come and go for some rumble pit, and hopefully put that last achievement to bed.
Dustin Burg @ Jan 30th 2008 4:49PM
not a bad idea ...
Larry *not allowed to say cheevo* @ Jan 30th 2008 5:09PM
Alright then, set it up! w00t! Plus, you can blog about it... and then that will count as work. That's win/win if you ask me.
DjDATZ @ Feb 19th 2008 10:13AM
Heheheh...just listening to this one. Listening to the Mass Effect rant part. :P LOL
DjDATZ @ Feb 19th 2008 11:34AM
YES FOR THUNDERCATS THEME-SONG!!
