Chair to bring Ender's Game to the XBLA
Orson Scott Card and Chair Entertainment (the developers behind Undertow) just announced today that they're collaborating on a project to bring sci-fi novel Ender's Game into the video game world. Geeky fun!Newsweek's N'Gai Croal confirmed that Chair Entertainment will begin developing Ender's Game sometime later this year and that the gameplay will not be focused on the entire novel, but instead will be more focused on the Battle Room. Croal also confirmed that Chair will be developing the game as a digital distribution title for release on services like the Xbox Live Arcade. A fully geeked out press release can be read after the break.

Oh boy. This could be really great.
How on earth has there never been an Ender's Game game?
TurboFool @ Jan 29th 2008 2:14PM
Thank god it's not being done by those buggers, Majesco. Now maybe the game will have a shot at not sucking.
Ho Ender!

Guarantee, since there isn't gravity, it'll be a reskinned undertow with a new ability to freeze teammates into barriers.

For anyone that might be interested in trying a game similar to the space battles Ender and his friends play near the end of the book you should check out the Homeworld games on the PC. Sadly there aren't any for the 360 and it seems development on the series has stopped so there probably won't ever be.
It will be interesting to see if Chair can make the battles fun and exciting while maintaining the level of strategy described in the books (Ender's Shadow offers a slightly different perspective of some of the same battles). I hope it offers full zero-g movement and such.

Kinda weird, I'm literally in the middle of reading this book for the first time. Its an awesome book so far though.

I loved the book. I finished it in one weekend of nonstop reading. I cant wait for the game. Hope its just as awesome as the book. (keeping fingers crossed)

I remember reading this book when I was thirteen and I was enthralled. Honestly though, I think the main draw to the book are certain elements that cannot make it through in a game. If the game is just gonna be about the Battle Room why bother basing it on Ender's Game? I dunno, they're going to have to handle this license properly for me to be even remotely interested.
Any Ender's Game fans agree with me?
xenocidic @ Jan 29th 2008 4:43PM
I have some reservations about this too but what would they really base it on otherwise
Dr Rumble @ Jan 29th 2008 7:24PM
Hell yeah, son!

best book ive ever read. ever. ive always wanted to fight in the battle room. that would be interesting to make a full scale retail rpg game on the entire novel. mmm...
