Crysis engine will be shown on 360 at GDC

The Crysis 360 saga continues today with the announcement that Crytek will be showcasing its CryENGINE 2 running on multiple platforms including the Xbox 360 and PS3 at GDC next month. Given the tug-of-war that has taken place regarding the often rumored Crysis port for consoles, this is particularly juicy information. The latest rumor, for those that don't remember, was that a port of Crysis was headed to the 360 this November. Said rumor was denied by EA the following day. Considering Crysis is currently the only game that actually runs on CryENGINE 2, and that CryENGINE 2 is now running on 360s, we're going to reassert our theory that someone is porting it to 360. Call us crazy.

If this game isn't being played on an awesome gaming rig but rather on the 360, does it have anything new to offer?
I'm not being a jerk here, I really don't know if there's something special about the gameplay, or if it's just awesome graphically.

While it may not look as good as on a bleeding edge PC, I'm sure Crysis will still look amazing on the 360. At least as good as on a standard high end PC if it's ported well.
And yes, the gameplay actually did get good marks in the reviews.

maybe this is a distraction while metal gear is ported to the 360

Not happening

Did you not read the part where it's going to be shown on 360 AND PS3?

"showcasing its CryENGINE 2 running on multiple platforms including the Xbox 360 and PS3"
...not so much, lol

This is no surprise seeing that it sold like crap on the PC.

Maybe it is an attempt to dethrown Epic as the Engine of choice for game designers. The engine may currently be used in Crysis, but every engine appears in 1 game first, and as it has been shown to produce great results, then why wouldn't you want to license it.
Although if the engine runs on the 360/PS3 I can't see why you wouldn't also port the main game using it.
I wonder if we will ever see a Wii port with enhanced EDTV graphics.
Royale @ Jan 29th 2008 2:24PM
enhanced EDTV graphics... brilliant.

I'm currently playing Crysis on my "high-end" PC... and it's a fun game and obviously looks incredible.
I'm curious to see how it will look and run on an xbox. If how awesome COD4 looks is any indication of some of the power of the xbox, I imagine it could look pretty good. Though COD4 single player was pretty contained while Crysis is a very wide opened game... and that is what makes it so graphically intensive.
Perhaps they will be showcasing a new game running CryEngine2? Personally that would be more interesting than a port of Crysis.

thanks for putting up the news i dug X3F. after seeing my roommate blast away on this game on his 8800GT i cant wait to play it on my 360, even if its running at 720p, 640p or 600p as a matter of fact.....

But- Can It Blend?
George Arauz @ Jan 29th 2008 5:31PM
I thought this was not gonna be a 360 game.. hmm.. nice

It might be Crysis and it might not be... Far Cry 2 runs on the Dunia engine (which I heard was essentially CryEngine 2... I mean look at the leaked pre-alpha footage then disagree with me) and FC2 has been announced for PC, 360 and the PS3 as well.
Yes, Dunia is mostly Ubi and yes, FC2 is mostly Ubi and yes, Crytek has little if any hand in FC2 but I'm still not entirely sure I want to chalk this up to Crysis 360 yet.

I finished up crysis on my high end rig just a few weeks ago. Crysis played in 64-bit Vista on DX10 with all "High" Settings. 1680x1050 res. FPS stays 28-32 outside and stays 45+++ inside buildings.
When I went back to COD4 on the 360 it took some time to adjust. It's hard to describe but COD just seems "fuzzy" now.
I also seem notice frame rate drops in cod4 now, like when alot of stuff is happening.
Crysis handles HUGE dynamic environments super well with tons of cool effects all happing at the same time with 0 frame rate "lag". Hopefully they can tune the engine for the 360 so it can do the same.
I know it wont have 1/2 the glory of Crysis with all the amazing effects set to full but it could still provide some really nice shooters for the xbox. Prolly shoot the RRoD problems thru the roof pushing the 360 to the max but it'll be worth it.

The last thing the 360 needs is another dumbed down FPS PC port.. Unless it is jaw-dropping gorgeous and is pushing console graphics to a new level the game can stay on PC.
COD4 owns Crysis in so many ways it is not even funny.
PS: Please spare us your PC spec listing's on this 360 thread. Nobody Gives a sheet..

What are you talking about? Most of us 360 owners are also PC gamers... spec sheets are always welcomed.
