Retail Xbox Live packages get a redesign

We love a good old fashioned retail package redesign, so when we spotted a 12 month Xbox Live subscription card sporting a new paint job, we just had to share.

Recently, we discovered new and redesigned 12 month subscription cards at our local Best Buy and, after doing a double take, we fell in love with the new spotted look. And the old designs weren't even that bad. Anyway, we hopped online to find some press shots of the newly redesigned packages and came across the gallery pictures below. We couldn't find pictures of the prettified subscription cards, but we did find pics of both 12 and 3 month Live starter bundles. The subscription cards' new design is very similar to these bundles and we expect the whole Xbox Live retail lineup to see prettier packaging within' the next few months.

Yes, we know, It's all cosmetic. But darned if we aren't suckers for updated packaging. So, without further need to wait, take a look at the new and improved packaging design for the 3 and 12 month Xbox Live bundles as we try to track down pics of the other retail offerings. Lovely, no?

They really need to go back to offering a 12+1 month pack with just a headset. Damn headsets always seem to die when Live needs a renewal.

It is a bundle. It's not just fancier, it's an actual starter pack. Darned good one and all!

I also just noticed the 3 month set also comes with 400 microsoft points and a headset!

Well that Starter pack has been in Europe for a year. I picked one up in January as I needed to renew, and it was only £10 and my headset was dying anyway.

I have 200 ms points that I just can't use. I would like to buy some DLC, but I can't justify £16.99 for 2100 or £32 for 4200 points, and that is buying them online cheaper than RRP. I don't know how much they are in the US, but the UK prices seem too high.

My problem is that MS has dropped their 12 + 1 deal. I liked that extra bonus month. Made my hard earned 50 dollars worth a little more than a year. I know that seems stupid, but where i once got 13 months I am now only getting 12. I need to track down one more, my LIVE is up in two months, and I don't want to be sol.

Ah, so that's why I got a bunch for the 1600 point cards from Target a few months back for $14. Thanks Microsoft, and thanks Target, for discounting a "discontinued" item 30%! I snapped up 10 of those cards. I wish I had hit a few more Target stores and made out even better. After giving a few away, I'm down to one. And it's probably going to my wife for a birthday present.
