Halo 2 decides it wants to be a Platinum Hit [update 2]
Update 2: Microsoft has now confirmed that Halo 2 definitely headed for Platinum Hits. The shock of the confirmation nearly made us spew out our iced tea. Nearly. After being on the market since 2004, earning an average metacritic score of 95 and selling millions upon millions of copies, Microsoft decided Halo 2 could sit among the Max Payne and Shark Tales of the world and
We confirmed Halo 2's Platinum Hits status after recently spotting the game's retail box art (viewable above) over on one of Microsoft's press websites. We also can't help but point out that Halo 2's Platinum Hits box is chalk full of marketing goodness including a "Plays on Xbox 360" stamp and a rather large blue inset that tells everyone that Halo 2 is the "Best Selling Xbox Game Ever". You know, just in case weren't aware. Anyway, the new Halo 2 Platinum Hits edition should be shipping to retailers sometime soon and will carry the typical Platinum Hits price of $19.99 even though we're sure you can find the game clearance priced for cheaper. But who wouldn't want a copy of Halo 2 in that iconic and oh so brag worthy silver jewel case. Right?

They are called Xbox Classics in the UK, and I am sure Halo 2 has been in it for sometime, Halo has been atleast.

BOOOOORRRRRIIIINNNNNGGGG
I thought this was Xbox360 fanboy, not xbox fanboy... or more likely Halo Fanboy. Given that this is a fanboy website, WHO won't have played Halo 2.
Hardly newsworthy.

Who are you to dictate what's newsworthy? Dustin can post whatever he wants seeing that he's one of the main bloggers.

Wow. Thanks Microsoft?
I'm pretty sure people who don't even play video games own a copy of Halo 2. It's almost as common as a toaster in someone's house.
Saxon @ Feb 11th 2008 12:37PM
As someone who never owned an Xbox I don't own either Halo or Halo 2. I've played through them both on my brother's Xbox but never got around to buying them for my 360.
If they would have made this drop BEFORE Halo 3 came out I would have absolutely bought it, but now it's not even worth $20.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who had never played a Halo game before Halo 3 came out. Maybe Microsoft thinks that those people new to Halo will want to go back and play Halo 2, so they are releasing it as a Platinum Hit. You buy Halo from the Xbox origionals service, then Halo 2 as a Platinum Hit, and boom you can catch up on all that story you missed out on.

I bet within the year Halo 2 will be on Originals. I played both of them on the 360 with nothing but the occassional frame-rate drop, so Halo 2 would seem a prime candidate for Originals.

Great game.. it deserves it
SytheMaster @ Feb 11th 2008 3:18PM
LoL As I wasn't an origional xbox owner I bought this before Halo 3's release for £4 and for No1 yes it is out as an xbox classic in the U.K., since I own it!
Big Wizz @ Feb 11th 2008 3:49PM
About (counting out loud) 6 months too late. Should have release b4 Halo 3.
Its also a joke it took this long to become "Platinum." Just like Gears should have become Platinum sometime last summer.
SavageNub @ Feb 17th 2008 11:00AM
Now there killing Halo 2? Wow. Lol. This is sad, w/e CoD 4 FTW
