In this week's
Bungie Weekly Update, sandwiched between news of GDC and a
website upgrade, comes word that the long awaited
Halo 3 auto update will be releasing sometime next week. An auto update which we've been internally referring to as the "melee fix update". And in all reality, we're on the edge of our seat waiting for this fix to be implemented. We've felt burned one too many times when it comes to
Halo 3's melee and don't think we can handle much longer. But all will be better next week. So, in the meantime, we advise continuing the love celebration and playing the limited
St. Valentine's Day Massacre matchmaking playlist all weekend long. Remember, if you catch Bungie's statistic eye, you'll probably be awarded teh l33tz Recon!

I don't get it, Whats the Big deal with the Melee System? Is it that you can leap so far?
Everyone can do it right, so again why are people whinning over it?
Roxxorsmash @ Feb 16th 2008 5:04PM
Thats... got nothing to do with the problem. The problem is when two people melee at the same time, the person who hit first wins. However, on one persons screen it might look like they melee'd first, but due to latency, they actually melee'd second, and therefore, they die. This is what is pissing people off, myself included.

I'm looking forward to seeing what else they fix with this patch. Although I think I'm one of the few people not looking forward to this so much. It sounds like alot more people are going to drop dead at the same time in melee battles now.

It is totally random and nothing to do with when and where you do it, shield power has no affect. You can melee someone with 1 bar of shield from 1ft away and they don't die, where as someone can melee you from 10ft away while you have full health and you die.
WTF
The other day I was killed by a spartan laser while it was still charging, do you think I could tell bungie to get that L33T armour.

Halo?

Apologies for the double post.

The beat down right now is bull. Doesn't matter if you hit first or not, the person that's done the most damage wins the beat down fight.
That might seem like a good thing but in reality it just creates Jonny-run-and-wack running around going LOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOL spraying his BR and smacking you in the face without fear all over the place.
If it's a matter of who hit first, it'll be much better because people like that will think twice. :P

I was playing a game the other day, I put half a clip in someone, and then used melee. It didn't work so I melee again as the person didn't seem to react. They still didn't die and the next thing I know I am dead . I don't know what was going on lag, glitch, or really crap melee mechanic.

Bungie said that no matter what they are not going to go back to the Halo 2 melee system where whoever hit first won. 360fanboy linked to a weekly Bungie post where they stated that this new system would stay, with the animations being tweaked so you don't feel cheated. The tweaks they make to this system won't be enough to justify the host bias they have installed in the H3 melee system.
Example same shit you just won't notice that your getting screwed now. I love halo but there is just to much wrong with this build back to COD.

I had a friend that I played the tournament last night, and he got recon!
I will need to check to see if I got it, but he's better than me, so probably not.

I don't get it. We've been waiting for a TF2 patch that's been in certification since early December 2007, and here Halo is, getting the patch certified in two weeks.
Gotta love it when Micro$oft plays favourites.

I went to cod4 after I found out that halo 3 sucks because of the melee system. I may just have to check halo 3 out if they really do fix this...
George Arauz @ Feb 16th 2008 6:45PM
Looking forward to it

COD4 has the same problem, its just not as noticable because melee attacks are 100% lethal. I can't tell you how many times I've watched COD's "KIll Cam" only to see that the 3 rounds from my M60 didn't actually fire into the guy before he stabbed me, or my M16 firing just to his right instead of where he was.
