Unreal Tournament III will be dropping onto the Xbox 360 platform in a few months time and if you're super-uber excited enough to complete a pre-order, you may want to do it at Gamestop. They're offering a free (and quite attractive)
UT3 faceplate to all who plop down their pre-order cash and we enjoy a free 360 faceplate as much as the next guy. Speaking of free faceplates, what has happened to retailers participating in this practice? We swear that even a year ago free faceplates were quite common with game pre-orders. Bring back this practice fellow retailers, give us a faceplate incentive to pre-order.

I've never met another 360 user who uses a faceplate other than the one that came on the machine. Do people really do this?
Adam @ Feb 18th 2008 3:57PM
meh weak game not interested.
John McPoop @ Feb 18th 2008 7:34PM
@Adam
This game is incredible on the PS3. The reason it will be meh on the 360 is because of the inability of Microsoft to charge for user created mods. But, in my opinion this is one of the best (if not the best) and fast paced shooters ever. When you combine the gameplay with all the mutators and the user created content (3rd person view, maps, mutators, and games modes) it takes the replay-ability to another level. The campaign mode is nothing more than a warm-up and a glorified offline death match (but then again Gears was equally useless other than multiplayer). If Microsoft can figure a way to get the user generated content on LIVE for free and quickly this game will be a big hit on the 360. For those of you who have not played this game I would seriously suggest you try it and keep an open mind before you trash it.
Delgado @ Feb 19th 2008 1:02AM
I'll go with weak game.
If I want user generated content, I'll go PC.
If I want a great console shooter, I'll go with CoD4 or Halo3.
Diamondxp @ Feb 18th 2008 4:16PM
I seen the Game on the PS3 I was not impressed. The Face plate is a great incentive. I use mine. But to be honest the fad fades quickly when the face plate does not match the furniture.
Van Faulk @ Feb 18th 2008 4:20PM
The only faceplate anyone needs is chrome. Fact.
Dahk @ Feb 18th 2008 11:49PM
Chrome is overrated.
Needs suede leather.
Neon Jebus @ Feb 18th 2008 4:24PM
I think back to when they first started showing faceplates. They had all these really cool designs and not ONE of them was ever released. Nope, we got wood grain, gray, and some blue tribal crap.
The 3rd party offerings are pretty weak too...way too cluttered with images. I know of a few people with them though (usually Transformers).
If they would actually go for some nice design and not hey lets market game 'X' I would think they might sell a little bit better.
HazyCloud @ Feb 18th 2008 4:26PM
Forget the retailers/devs, what happened to the 1st party faceplates? I haven't seen MS release one since Carbon.
Adam @ Feb 18th 2008 4:27PM
you can design your own online for a cheap price thats what i did.Mine says my gamer tag and has my signature below it its preety tight.

Dont like the all white. Also this is b4 the Elite was introduced.
MadMup @ Feb 18th 2008 5:11PM
Okay, that's pretty cool - I'm not a big GoW fan, but I'll give credit where it's due :)
Drachen77 @ Feb 18th 2008 4:48PM
I kept hearing that UTIII was supposed to be awesome. It has sold pretty poorly on the PS3 and the PC but I think it will do fairly well on the 360.
The faceplate looks nice and I personally like the different faceplates. It is pretty obvious though that the idea hasn't worked as well as planned. I love my NFL and Transformers plates and would like to get some more but they are hard to find.
CB @ Feb 18th 2008 4:52PM
Free faceplate to doodle on!
NukeAssault @ Feb 18th 2008 4:53PM
I dont know anyone who usees them. I have 2 but they are just for show. The usb door on my original kinda broke. So i may swap for one. Or see if i can just find a new white one.
Killer @ Feb 18th 2008 5:01PM
I'll give you a very GOOD Reason for sales lacking on the PC. Epic didn't put a security code on it. Seriously, I have 10 PCs, with Unreal III on them and It's from the same disc. I bought it mind you, but No Security=Downloading for free. Now for the PS3, well do we even have to go there?
Biscuit @ Feb 18th 2008 5:03PM
Free faceplates don't sell crappy games. UT2004 was a lot better than this garbage.
MadMup @ Feb 18th 2008 5:12PM
That actually sounds pretty cool.
SadisticHam @ Feb 18th 2008 5:32PM
I have a Bioshock faceplate that i use, it came with the game.
As for UT3, naa, Epic shouldn't of screwed me on Gears of war and they should of released it on time (although i can understand MS made it difficult.) I'll pass on this, i have enough shooters on the 360 to be as picky as i like and they've just not been all that pleasing as of late.
A demo, might just save it and convince me but i highly doubt it.
ZenGaijin @ Feb 18th 2008 5:39PM
Hmm, a face plate for a game I was already going to buy.
Sign me up good sir!
Gemini Ace @ Feb 18th 2008 6:02PM
I actually got the faceplate skin for Stranglehold when I bought it. I also have the custom faceplate kit that lets you print your own picture and put it on. I've got the CoD2 faceplate and the blue tribal one. I will probably go reserve this game in order to get this.
Adam @ Feb 18th 2008 8:26PM
@John McPoop "fanboy"
I have played it and like i said meh.I have a friend that had a ps3 and he bought this game.I went over with a few others and he claimed it was gonna be a good game night. We usually do game night at my place. We played this for 15 minutes and i had to drive 30 miles to get my 360 and bring it over his house. It was a terrible game and a awful shooter.I felt like it was 1999 all over again.I brought halo3 we al played that till 6am.
LIKE I SAID *MEH*
John McPoop @ Feb 19th 2008 12:52AM
I hear what your saying man you just don't like the game. I am the opposite. I thought Halo 3 was far to slow and eliminated a lot of skill. I just think UT3 is the pinnacle of FPS and when you throw in all of the user mods it ups the replay value ten fold. I mean this game can be anything any user (with the skills) wants it to be. It is not like Halo 3 where u can use in game assets to create content but rather you can create anything your capable of and import it through the PC kit and into the PS3.
I just think the game is def one of the best shooters of all time. I would barely put Halo 3 in my top shooters of 2007. Like I said I just think it plays way to slow.
I would give UT3 a hard look because going from Halo 3 to UT3 is quite an adjustment. Mainly the speed, weapons, maps and pacing of the game.
1.UT3
2.COD 4 MW
3.Orange Box
4.Bioshock
5.Resistance FOM
6.Uncharted
7.Halo 3
John McPoop @ Feb 19th 2008 1:12AM
@Adam "fanboy"?
Im the fanboy but you drive 30 miles to pick up your 360 to have a good night gaming insead of giving UT3 a real chance??? If all you gave the game was 15 minutes then this game is certainly not for you. UT is the best FPS series EVER...Something tells me that if the game were out first on the 360 or if it were 360 exclusive you would have given it longer..Silly
15 minutes and discarding it is whats *MEH*
George Arauz @ Feb 18th 2008 10:43PM
Played it on PS3.. fun.. but not no COD or Halo
Mikezula @ Feb 19th 2008 2:23AM
I'd sprinkle a generous amount of salt before taking this into consideration.
But Epic? Not bloody likely.
Anything is possible in a world where EA can buy Bioware. But I'm half-expecting Marc Rein to fully debunk this rumor come GDC.
SyChO @ Feb 19th 2008 2:25AM
I got the demo for the PC, played around 45min to an hour and deleted it after that.
The graphics are drop dead gorgeous but the gameplay is horrible, the vehicles suck and the action/weapons are really really bad. If you want the ultimate deathmatch FPS game you need to play Quake1-2-3 on a PC. The UT series have always been for weak gamers who need something so fast, that no skill is needed.
This game sucks hardcore! Don't waste your money!
Brucie B @ Feb 19th 2008 7:36AM
Still wondering which console to pick it up for PS3/360!?!?!
John McPoop @ Feb 19th 2008 11:02AM
@Brucie B
Well in this particular instance I would get it for the PS3. Mainly because the PSN is open and you can download user created Mods off the web, save them to a memory card and install them on your PS3. The 360 version (while not confirmed) will most likely not have this ability because Microsoft has a strict Live policy in place. So even if you could get user mods on the 360 you would more than likely have to pay for them or have to wait a long time for the certification process. Thats the main reason Epic went ahead with PS3 development and held back the 360 version until May 1st 2008.
The only advantage I can see Live having in this case is more players and active chatting. Personaly, I don't chat at all anyway and there are always thousands of people playing the PS3 version online.
So for the mods alone (which are frickin awesome btw) go with the PS3 version. The mods really can make the experience seem like a different game altogther. For instance, you can get a mod that turns the camera into 3rd person shooter mode (gears style), have multiple game types, user CREATEd levels and any other mutators you can imagine for gameply.heck, there is even a paintball Mod where you are essentially shooting paintball guns with each other!!! Seriously this is one instance i would say get the PS3 version over the 360 version because in the end your either going to have chatting (360) or user created mods, maps, mutators and game types (ps3). My decision was easy.
Brucie B @ Feb 19th 2008 4:30PM
Hey Thanks bud,
I've been leaning towards the PS3 side because of everything you said. I already saw the UT3mod.com site with all those cool mods. I can also find it for about $40 Used for PS3.
The Only thing that bothers me is the Darn PS3 Controller. I keep Hi Fiving my thumbs when I play a FPS on there. I really wish they would do something like offset the Analog. Thats the only thing holding me back from the PS3 Version.
John McPoop @ Feb 19th 2008 9:26PM
@Brucie B
Yeah the design of the controller is not as good as the 360 version for Shooters. It does not bother me much and when it did bother me that went away after just a few hours of gaming on-line.
I just think when you weigh the mods and content against more people on Live and a better Shooter controller its a no brainer (IMO). At the least the PS3 controller isn't as bad as the Wii controller. I love my ww a lot but I hate the actual controller and nunchuk not so much the motion controlled aspect.
Like I said I think in the end the PS3 verson will blow it away for the user content.
Like picking between the 360 & PS3 version of the new Grand Theft Auto. Except in Sony's case you dont need to pay for content because the community creates. I a making a map now (degree in computer animation from full sail). Its pretty crappy so far but still I think its awesome to have that avenue for my creativity.
So Brucie B in the end you need to decide between:
PS3- Free online play & lots of community created content free of charge.
No real chatting or game invites like the 360 MB and as you said about the controller for shooter.
360- Better controller and more people for matchmaking. No user created Mods and if they are it will cost money.
I like the user created content rather than waiting until May 1 for an inferior product content wise (like buying GTA4 on PS3 instead of 360 where you get extra episodic content.
Hope this helps..
