Frontlines: FoW now featuring 50 person multiplayer
After releasing not one, but two separate game demos to the XBLM, Frontlines: Fuel of War hasn't really garnered a major following or any sort of hype. But the dev team at Kaos Studios have been keeping their multiplayer cards held close and with their latest feature reveal, hope to get some attention.Confirmed via Kaos Studios' official forums, Frontlines developer deslief made it known that the game will in fact feature 50 player online multiplayer over Xbox Live. 50 players! Kaos says that they initially planned for a 32 player versus and even got up to as many as 73 players, but are settling a rather comfortable 50. Maybe that'll be the bullet point to make some pickup Frontlines, maybe not. Let's just hope multiplayer doesn't end up being a ride through lag-city.

Listening to Major Nelson's latest blogcast, it sounded like the devs had set up their own dedicated servers. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I played a round of this mp yesterday. it was ok I guess, I went back to COD4 though. I was hoping for some vehicle actions but couldnt find any.
The trailer they show after the demo looks cool though.
This might be a good follow up for cod4 if it wasnt for r6v2.
Ill say, pass.
SadisticHam @ Feb 18th 2008 9:59AM
I played this Multiplayer demo and it lagged me like mad. :s
Just uninstalled the demo, wasn't very impressed.

WOW that sounds LAAG-ARIFIC!!!!

50 players doesn't help the game when it SUCKS!
Mr. Stabby Mouse feat. Hat @ Feb 18th 2008 2:09PM
Typical "constructive" criticism from the thousands of names on internet comment pages. "You suck" Brucie. There; I know as much about you as you know about that game and I've made the same conclusion. No need to comment back, although I’ve got a feeling you’re dying to pepper me with your useless opinions.
Brucie B @ Feb 18th 2008 6:15PM
Sorry Mr. Stabby Mouse feat. Hat AKA: Chump, I didn't mean to make you CRY.
By the way, I guess you didn't hear me the 1st time.
THIS GAME SUCKS & I bet Your a Pretty Big SUCKER TOO!!!
Mr. Stabby Mouse feat. Hat @ Feb 18th 2008 6:56PM
You prove my point. You type and type and where does it get you? Sitting on a bench in "The Internet makes me feel like a man ville" All I can say is that no-one really gives a damn what you have to say. I'm sure you're going to influence people picking up this game or not, just like you hurt my feelings with your low-brow attempt at a personal shot: "CHUMP" Congrats little boy, you found the shift key. Move on, play COD4 and noob-tube your team-mates day in and out, because after all I'm sure that's what gets you off. Leave a team-based game to the grown-ups. Scrub.
Brucie B @ Feb 18th 2008 8:00PM
hahahahaha I hope there paying you Loser!!!
Well Not really, Later CHUMP

I expect crazy lag with 50 players on a map. If by some force of magic or divine intervention they can pull off a lag-free 50 player match I want those responsible to go around and teach some of these other developers how to get it done and shall henceforth be known as kings among men and brought tidings of lamb chops and steak fries daily for all eternity.
PSN: KillaKornbread @ Feb 18th 2008 10:40AM
its very possible if they use dedicated servers, its just the more common P2P setup of Live that gives you the lag since your connection strength is reliant on the other peoples connections in the game. if they use dedicated servers like PC and PS3 it should be a breeze.
Mr. Stabby Mouse feat. Hat @ Feb 18th 2008 2:13PM
They do use dedicated servers. When searching for games on live look for any server with "Kaos" in the name, it's usually followed by a designation such as TX, MD, UK, NY, and what version server they're running 3.7, 3.1, 2.8
Ever play on a PC game where the cap is set to 64 players? If the server is run by a big company (KAOS uses THQ's game servers, and some of their own) you'll see little to no lag, as opposed to the 16 player or less "Xbox hosted" games.
Gunner43 @ Feb 18th 2008 10:10AM
The demo actually isn't that bad. It's pretty fun. They do have their own servers so you can play on with tons of people. No lag yet!
Brian Fantana @ Feb 18th 2008 3:03PM
I'd like to know how THQ can get dedicated servers, but Bungie can't. It's not like Halo 3 sold well or anything. And Halo 3 is still laggy from time to time. If you hav the No.1 game on live, theres no reason you shouldnt have dedicated servers.
I'll check this game out just to see how it plays with al them people on at once.
Big Wizz @ Feb 18th 2008 10:10AM
Terrific! So, when 1/2 of the people quit, it'll be 12 vs. 12.
Sgt Barone @ Feb 18th 2008 10:12AM
Every 32 player match i've gotten into in that demo was COMPLETLY lag free! It's been great. If they can get 32 players lag free, then 50 shouldn't be difficult.
Corleone @ Feb 18th 2008 10:14AM
too bad the game sucks, COD 4 anyone??
Kevin Gass @ Feb 18th 2008 10:20AM
opinion
fix'd
Adam @ Feb 18th 2008 10:57AM
I have playing this demo more than i have cod4 so has all of my friends and family. Its a great game and if you want vehicles choose the oil field map.50 players online is a huge deal i will be picking this up for sure its one of the best online games i have played yet i like it better than battlefield.I like the emp weapons and the bots are fun to.
FatalisticDread @ Feb 18th 2008 11:01AM
I'm thinking that I might have to rent the full version, but as it is, neither demo got me hard.
Scott @ Feb 18th 2008 11:08AM
I have no interest in this game but wish them some success so that maybe more future 360 games will use dedicated servers to enhance the multiplayer experience.
stukorn @ Feb 18th 2008 11:43AM
Why aren't more games supporting larger games, image call of duty 4 with about 30 people, would be awesome. Obviously larger maps would be needed.
Boff @ Feb 18th 2008 12:02PM
Well it could be lagtastic but if they are using their own servers then kudos! Let's hope more companies follow suit!
Mr. Stabby Mouse feat. Hat @ Feb 18th 2008 2:16PM
For games with caps at 32 (or 50) players they use dedicated servers. Prevents "standby whores" and cuts down on lag substantially.
Brucie B @ Feb 19th 2008 7:01AM
Still gonna Suck Chump!
Edzo04 @ Feb 18th 2008 4:03PM
this doesnt surprise me at all. i read this in oxm very long time ago. they just changed to 32 but i figured it wud be 50. OXM is correct most of the time....
Spooky @ Feb 18th 2008 5:56PM
I don't understand why everyone against the game has simply said "it sucks".
I was playing this for hours yesterday with no lag what-so-ever. This is a really really fun game, and the 50 player mp just sealed the deal for me. Tank-driver, air support, heavy assault thats me. Kudos!
Mr. Stabby Mouse feat. Hat @ Feb 18th 2008 7:00PM
People bash it with infantile comments because it makes themselves feel better to see that their rants are posted on a web-site. It's like YouTube. Don't bother reading the comments; you'll feel dumber for doing it. =) It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it certainly doesn't suck. Look forward to seeing mature team-gamers on that one, for sure. (Especially since team-killing is disabled on Kaos servers)
Brucie B @ Feb 19th 2008 7:00AM
Mr. Stabby Mouse feat. Hat AKA CHUMP, Sorry but that's your OPINON!!!
The Game Sucks Point Blank, Both Demos SUCKED.
I laugh @ your Stupidity on trying to sell this Garbage Game. By the way I feel much better!
Mr. Stabby Mouse feat. Hat @ Feb 19th 2008 2:19PM
Brucie, you're a moron. Simply put. I could care less about this game, my point (which if you could read into it) is that you're an infantile low-brow internet commando wannabe. You think that typing a few words on an old comment page makes you a man. Then to try an add to your "brilliance" you type words in all caps, to emphasize that you're being a cunt. If anyone cared about your opinion, they'd subscribe to your "I'm mad at the world because I've got a tiny dick" podcast. Get over yourself, get over your need to have the last word. Or don't, frankly it'd be funnier to have you spend the rest of your days fighting pointless flame-wars on internet message boards. Here's the point: Arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics, even if you win you're still a retard.
Also, wiki a new term, CHUMP was so yesterday.
Brucie B @ Feb 19th 2008 3:06PM
HAHAHAHAHA Kiddo, Don't get YOUR PANTIES in a Bunch!!!
Josh @ Feb 18th 2008 8:18PM
After playing the MP demo, I haven't had as much fun in multiplayer since H3. Some of the stuff that happens is just crazy and hillarious, like have 3 seperate rockets circling a helicopter and then all of them hitting it at the same time blowing it up. It has those crazy moments that H3 has. Its a blast with just 16, but 50 would be incredible.
jim @ Feb 18th 2008 9:03PM
how are the controls? i think i played the SP demo and found the controls to be really awkward.. the aiming i couldnt get used to, ill have to download this and check it out.
