Riding through fields of cash on the back of their hack and slash money machine, today Capcom
announced that
Devil May Cry 4 has officially went double platinum selling over 2 million copies worldwide. This announcement comes hot on the heels of news that the
DMC4 demo served
1 million gamers and word that the 360 version overwhelmingly
outsold the PS3 version. We're thinking Capcom is quite proud of their decision to
take DMC4 multi-platform seeing all the success the game has already had. We're also thinking 1.5 million of the 2 million copies sold were probably on the Xbox 360. Oh yeah, we so went there.

Well, in the PS3's defense the game sold 250,000 copies in Japan on the first week... I won't even say what the 360 numbers were lol.
ryan @ Feb 20th 2008 12:51PM
truth is tho, Japan's not as big on Console gaming like they used to. Portable is where it's at in Japan.
JJ @ Feb 20th 2008 1:04PM
Thats true ryan, but it still did sell a heck of a lot in japan alone.
Not to mention the downright ridiculous numbers that Smash Bros. is posting.
They haven't totally turned away from console games.
Neuromancer @ Feb 20th 2008 12:21PM
Just guessing here, but maybe console gamers don't like 30 minute installation times. There's a crazy idea that I happen to subscribe to: that with a console you should just pop in the disc and be able to play immediately.
JJ @ Feb 20th 2008 12:26PM
ya know not to be a jerk...but last i checked WW the PS3 version was ahead by a sizeable margin. =) Of course thats thanks to Europe (As a whole) and Japan.
According to VGchartz of course, but i also think this 2million number is shipped and not "Sold" but then to the manufacturer its all the same thing anyway.
But either way good for Capcom.
dylan @ Feb 20th 2008 12:29PM
hot on the heels, not heals.
JJ @ Feb 20th 2008 12:30PM
Well i just checked according to VGchartz its 599k/455k PS3/360.
So a little over a million sold, So it may be capcom decided to "overstuff" the channel by a bit.
*Shrug* still not bad at all.
GregA @ Feb 20th 2008 12:43PM
JJ,
VGChartz has this consistent theory that retailers are idiots and they keep a years supply of inventory in stock all the time. That an their gross numbers bounce around a lot and no one seems to talk about it. For example, according to VGChartz totals on their front page, not a single xbox has sold in the year 2008, and conversly, 4 million ps3's have sold this year alone.
Never mind that they were off by large margins this month compared to the npd report, and their margin of error seems to be growing. Also, they somehow missed the whole "xbox is having wii like shortages since November" right up until Microsoft admitted it, the day of the NPD report.
So you combine those factors of... Their numbers are never even in the ball park correct(+/- 20% compared to EVERY NPD report) , they routinely miss basic facts, they have excuses every time their numbers are off, I think you have to reconsider VGChartz as anything other then... adsense spam?
You can safely ignore VGChartz forever.
JJ @ Feb 20th 2008 1:01PM
Well yeah i know its just educated guesses at best but more often than not then tend to get at least in the "General" vicinity of the numbers, lately its been off i agree.
But its still ahelpful resource, if not a bit off.
As for the totals, ahven't seent hat big a discrepency in terms of the 4 mil PS3's and 0 360's, Both have more or less been moving at the same pace by my numbers.
As for the Xbox shortages since november, i dont really buy that this late into the game, Wii I can understand, 360...eh not so much, too me it just seems like more of an attempt to cover thier backsides from the fact the Ps3 outsold them in January.

I Like X3F, but you should let me come write for you. Or At Least Edit.
Cut down on the folksy lingo, open up a grammar and style manual, and for goodness sakes, learn to spell.
Trolling Done for the Day.
Will fn b @ Feb 20th 2008 1:22PM
this may be a fanboy site, but you shouldn't write misleading statements. We got word that the 360 version outsold the others IN THE UK only, when we look at worldwide I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 version comes out on top, mostly because of Japan...
Chris @ Feb 20th 2008 12:50PM
Yeeeeahhh.....
1.5 of the 2 million copies?
No offense, but I seriously doubt that.
You guys only reported on one country outselling the PS3 version. Thats hardly enough evidence to come to that conclusion, when on the other side in Japan sales for the PS3 kicked the 360's ass.
Not to be a trolling fanboy, but try to cut back on the pure speculative opinion sometimes and try to push more... you know... facts. At least until you have proof.
I like the 360, but I would imagine the series would sell the best on the system that it grew up on. But thats just my reasoning.
Feel free to flame me, I more than expect it right now.

This is a blog, and not a reputable journalistic source.
I think the hyperbole, slang, and plain outlandish statements make this site fun to read as long as you don't take it too seriously. It is after all an entertainment site which happens to give news, rather than a news site.
Digital Limit @ Feb 20th 2008 2:50PM
Seconded.
Settle down and enjoy.
Adam @ Feb 20th 2008 12:57PM
@GregA Vgchartz is a joke its loaded with sony fanboys who give bad rankings on 360 titles before there even released.Compile that with the fact that even the people that run the site are obsessed with sony and most that read the site are euro heads it shows it unreliable.
The other day someone made 2 posts
Troll on 360
Troll on ps3
so i trolled on ps3 and i got a threat from the moderator for trolling even tho it was a trolling thread and he even said in the message
"i know its a trolling thread but take it easy on the ps3"
talk about seriouse issues eh.
JJ @ Feb 20th 2008 1:04PM
Well adam to be fair, there's a fair amount of fanboys on ANY gaming site that lean to one of the 3 systems.
I haven't seen anything on VGchartz that shows they lean more one way than the other.
as for the game ratings.. so far i've seen that happen on ALL the consoles one way or another.
George Arauz @ Feb 20th 2008 2:17PM
Nice.. good to see that
eclipse27 @ Feb 20th 2008 2:02PM
hey 360 fans! WorldWide sales actually means................WORLDWIDE SALES....you know anywhere other than America (Which is the only place the 360 is truly relevant at).....got that....ok so you know that the 360 is basically non-existent in Japan (Capcom's home is in Tokyo, Japan....Hello) so the PS3 DMC4 software surely trumps the 360 there and other regions are quickly accepting the PS3 as the console of choice. Here in America, 360 "may" have outsold the PS3 version here, but not by too much
Capcom has the numbers and they probably see for themselves that the PS3 is the lead selling platform for the DMC4. They now have some things to think about for the future on the PlayStation 3, and what to do on it. No flame im just covering WORLDWIDE sales on how they probably are.
The 360 regime is fading fast not because of effort but best Sony and Nintendo are better. Period!......enjoy last place real soon
Oh and enjoy your brand new coasters to put your drinks and food on while you play DMC 4......and that would be the XBox 360 HD-DVD add on...and any disks that were bought to play on.
Mike @ Feb 20th 2008 3:55PM
Did you really have nothing better to do today than stop in here and post that piece of nonsense?
john smith @ Feb 20th 2008 4:06PM
Dustin, your an idiot
Phizzy @ Feb 20th 2008 7:34PM
How is a 60/40 split in one fucking country 'overwhelming'? Maybe I should link to the Japanese sales and say that's how it is worldwide, too?
