COD4 continues XBL dominance; Halo 3 cowers

As seen before, the battle for the most-played game on Xbox Live seems to be slowly showing signs of finality. With COD4 holding the top spot for several weeks in a row now, we could be seeing the long term dethroning of the old master of the top played game of the service. Major Nelson released his list of most played games, as he does each week, and it seems that the collective 360 population has moved on from the older Halo formula, and onto the more gritty, "realistic" gameplay of COD4. Whether or not the release of the new Auto-Update for Halo 3 will lure players back and let the game regain the top-spot will just have to wait until next week.

Can't come soon enough. I had to quit on a game last night due to lack of quick mute ability. One of those super-trolly kids who just won't shut up. He was picking on some pre-pubescent kid and even if you ignore him or tell him to shut he just keeps going at it and ruining any chance of fun. I didn't want to be on this douche's team. I didn't want to help him win a game. It was awful. I wish someone would come out with a good multi-player shooter where you can't talk on the stupid headset. "Silent Strike" or whatever. I'd totally rock that.

I went back to Halo 3 recently and had the same reaction. It was like trudging through mud the whole time. Seemed so slow. And pumping two clips into dudes just to bring them down felt like a chore. At first the "tag-you're-dead" style was too hardcore for me in CoD4, but now it's hard to go back.

I find it funny that people still say Halo 3 is what 360 is about, when clearly people are playing other games more then Halo... Hmm...

The thing is i like both games but the community driven side of Halo is what makes me play it more then COD, COds normal games is better then halo's normal games but thats all COD has for it and after players get high on that presteige latter and realize that playlists arent changing, no new gamtypes are coming, new maps wont come as often and soon that reward system will be as good as not even being there. Halo will take second for a good 2 to 3 months then what was said above starts happening people will return because Every 3 months there is a map pack, every month playlists change, and new ones get added, the community and forge keep outputing some fun things and matchmaking will become more like Custom games instead of Hardcore. All this will happen just give it time...

Im starting to enjoy halo again i got tired of cod4.Im at the point now where i want more from my shooters vehicles aircraft etc.
Now im obsessed with frontlines.

Yeah, frontlines is where its at right now. Both it and Halo 3 have the rediculous fun moments that you don't experience in Call of Duty. Ex: Frontlines: 3 rockets circling a helicopter and then all hitting it at the same time and watching a big explosion. Halo: Theres just to many crazy moments that happen. Call of Duty 4: ?

as much as i love halo.. i play cod 4
halo is by far the better of the games.. but ive played halo for like 7 years now.. since halo 1 first came out. i loved it but now theres finaly a game that gets me off of playn halo, so i gonna stick with it.
i hate to see halo fall number 2, but ohwell

Out with the old, in with the new...Halo had it's time on the xbox, overall. I just never got into H3 MP...I tried pretty damn hard, but it just didn't happen. It felt too much of a rehash of the same 'ol same 'ol with Halo.
Funny that folks always talk about those two in particular, but Gears is still in the top 5. That's impressive! And, with UT3 slated for an early summer release, coupled with Gears 2 this fall...Epic will OWN the 'live' charts.

It will be interesting to see the long term statistics though. I bet in the next coming months things for COD4 will eventually taper and cool off, where as the Halo 3 levels will remain consistently high over the long term.

I also think COD 4 will eventually drop too. Mainly because bungie adds so much to Halo 3 and because Forge makes so many new gametypes possible. I thought COD 4 was amazing, but after I was done earning everything and played all the gametypes, I grew really bord of it. Then I went back to Halo 3 and never had more fun playing it. With Foundry there are so many amazing player made maps I have seen and played. I also enjoyed all the new gametypes and updated playlists, and with the new fixed melee system and even more maps on the way soon, and many more in the future I dont think I am ever going to go back to COD 4 ever again.

Same here, I was a hardcore cod4 player since the day of its release, but i've grown tired of the solo run and gun gameplay without teamwork. Honestly, how much time do you spend playing w/ your teammates and how much do you spend going out on your own. In halo if you play w/ 1 or 2 of your friends you communicate and use teamwork.

besides being first person shooters COD4 and Halo3 are completely different, quit comparing the two. (i play both and both offer a different experience)...as for my personal opinion Cod4 maps look bland compared to the vibrant colors of Halo3. nvm that is fact dont believe me..get an HD tv, the bigger the better....anyone here play on an HD projector by chance, next semester im moving into a new apt and a projector would fit perfect, and im wondering how games look

Everyone's talking about this summer and thing's that will hit huge, what about in three weeks when Vegas 2 drops? I doubt it'll take out both Halo and COD4, but I could see it pulling alot of COD4 people in and putting Halo back on top.
I just hope all the annoying kids don't follow me to Vegas2.
