GDC08: Epic announces Gears of War 2 for a Nov 08' release
In an instant, this massive GDC announcement put to rest a year full of speculation and rumors that has kept the Gears community on the edge of their seats. A year long Gears of War 2 rumor mill encompassing events including Cliffy B hinting at a Gears sequel, seeing Amazon.com pre-orders come and go, reporting on Cliffy's brother knowing something, hearing about a GamePro cover, reading about SurferGirl chiming in and we even sunk as low as to analyze GDC floor plans. All these rumors were reported because we were in search of an elusive GoW2 announcement and now, we have it. We finally have confirmation that GoW2 is real and we can put to rest a year full of rumors. It was fun while it lasted, but we're way more satisfied and relieved knowing that the veil has been lifted. More Gears of War 2 details to come.

But now the question remains - what kick @$$ commercial will they put on TV/Live this fall that could be on par with last time's "Mad World"? It's one of my favorite commercials ever. How can they top it?? Here's hoping.

As a Halo 3 fanboy, I like this idea. Not just a Halo 3 blog, but maybe a AAA titles blog. Not to say that all news about Halo 3 and GoW2 isn't worthy of being in the main X3F circle of news, but most of the news surrounding those and other AAA games is borderline useless and not interesting to anyone other than a die-hard fan of the game being "reported."

most likely the single player will be compelling. i didn't care much for the multiplayer tho. CoD4 is the opposite for me, tho the single player wasn't that bad. just lacked character like GeOW.

You have to keep in mind that when GOW came out the multi-player was a last minute thing for epic. They now have more time to polish it up and make it even better.

There's nothing wrong with not liking a video game. But the fact is that GoW is a very popular video game, meaning more people like it than dislike it.
And it's not a matter of if GoW2 came out, it was a matter of when. Now that we know when, it gives us something to be excited about!

I mean it isn't a suprise, but i was doubting it would be announced at the keynote for a second when the EPIC guys left the stage.
The biggest hint was "this is what gears of war would look like if it were made TODAY", subtle or what, hahah.

I'm a 360 fanboy, and I couldn't care less about Gears of War. It was BORING and didn't impress me in the least. It was gaming on a track. It was like being in a movie, all right-- EXACTLY like a movie, meaning I had little control over what happened and was just being dragged along for the ride, forced to watch the game tell its 'story' while I was left with the un-fun task of filling in the narrative gaps with thousands of rounds of ammunition directed at an enemy that was not of my choosing. I was just the movie's honorary button-presser.
They can take Gears of War 2 and shove it up their pretty, overly-rendered ass. I'll be playing something with a sandbox format, like LOST or GTA IV.
If I play a game on a track, it will be Star Wars The Force Unleashed, and not Gears of War 2.
They should just cut out the gameplay (what little of it there is) and release it as an animated movie.
