Mods still stalled for Xbox 360 Unreal Tournament III

In an interview with our sister site Joystiq, Epic VP Mark Rein made it known that no progress has been made in implementing user created content for the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III. While the PS3 version has been available for some time -- and features the ability to incorporate user created mods -- Rein stated that there is no set release date for the 360 version of the title. We must point out the irony -- as did Joystiq -- that this news has broken in the midst of Microsoft's new push for community content on the Xbox 360.
How long it will take to sort out UTIII's mod problem -- and indeed whether or not it will even be solved at all -- remains a mystery.

The question is, does anybody care? UT3 is a joke of a game. Nobody wants it. If they did, they'd just pick it up for the PC. PC is the only platform where user created mods belong.
WTangoFoxtrot @ Feb 20th 2008 11:38PM
i couldnt agree with you more mate. i dont care if epic does even a bit more work on finishing the game, it belongs on the PC and i hated how everything was slowed down on the PS3.
just concentrate on Gears 2 Epic and i'll be happy as can be !

I disagree mods belong on the 360, they are one of my favorite things about PC gaming. I think that console gaming could really benifit from being able to dl mods.
Let's also not forget to mention that if Sony has the function there is really no legitimate reason for Xbox not to implement it. I also can't seem to figure out why Xbox won't allow K&M support it would make thise console RTS games actually worth getting.

I personally dont care. Im not buying it. I mean... there would have to be some freaking awesome Total Conversions.

I can't believe that they haven't reached an agreement yet, haven't they been negotiating for a while, I figured they would have it resolved before they announced GoW 2

Personally, I don't care about mods. I want a playlist, a list of maps, and a lobby system. Just make it work as well as Halo 3 and not like Gears and I'll be happy. Keep the mods on the PC and PS3.
WTangoFoxtrot @ Feb 20th 2008 11:42PM
actually i preferred the way gears works. the ability to play whatever map i want and to be able to join in the middle of the game meant i was always happy and that the tems were always balanced despite dropouts. halo3 was crap in that respect as i dont have much of a say in the gametype/map i want to play and when ppl get disconnected from a team u know who is gonna win ! playlists are for zombies who cant think for themselves, well apart from those delicious brains.....

Well, I guess i'm the only one disappointed with this news. I love the unreal tournament games, I've loved them from PC to Xbox 1 and I was hoping to love it on Xbox 360! I think they should just do away with the user created mods and release it on xbox 360 with out that function. It's fun to just shoot and kill mindlessly. It's not about depth or story, it's just a game to play and that's it.
webster1990 @ Feb 21st 2008 6:02AM
i would like to see this on the 360, with mods. But to be honest, if it didn't and EPIC just focused on Gears 2 i would be happy as a fat man at mcdonalds. (y)

I wasn't sure what system to pick it up for....
Well I Just got it for PS3 Mods & All!
Won it on Ebay for $36 Bux, What A Deal!
If the 360 version ends up w/ mods & better in some way, I'll just trade it for the 360 version.

You guys aren't missing out. The mods on the PS3 aren't that great... The PC version still reigns as the best, because you have endless freedom there... I'm talking about full conversions here, like top down mods or RPG mods...
PS3 is limited to just maps and (flawed) character models. I was real disappointed myself.
I'm not too distraught though. I actually enjoy Gears more these days (I was a HUGE fan of Unreal back in the days of UT03-04 and UC), and of course, Halo 3 is a blast :].
MAXXPRO @ Feb 21st 2008 8:58AM
c'mon! Unreal Tournament 3 is great! even if you feel that it's slow, you can play it fast as pc enabling a mutator.
great multiplayer, awesome graphic e and endless fun(thx to user generated content)
StevenRafael @ Feb 21st 2008 7:51PM
Oh it's fun... But the online experience I have with Gears and Halo seem to outdo it these days. Might be a change in personal tastes, but I actually still prefer UT04 over UTIII.
I haven't given up hope though. I'm waiting for the community to build up the way it did with UT04. And if anything, there are rumors going around that UTIII will see a second release, similar to the improvements made with UT04 over UT03.

Microsoft is afraid someone will rip the models from "Tomb Raider" and have Lara Croft doing nasty things on one of their consoles.
And if that does happen, I deny all knowledge or involvement...

Has anyone tried to create a portal gun mod...
mat parker @ Mar 12th 2008 6:22AM
MS is being rightly cautious about this opeing up Xbox Live could lead to all sorts of attacks on the service.
Also:
At Gamefest 2007, however, Microsoft's official line was less clear. To deliver user generated content, developers can take advantage of what's called Xbox Live Silver Platform (XLSP), where the data transferred runs through the publisher's servers, not Microsoft's. Publishers then become responsible for what runs through it, monitoring and policing offensive content, etc. Taking advantage of it, however, requires Microsoft approval.
DjDATZ @ Feb 21st 2008 9:40AM
just give me ut360! i don't need mods...or deal with them with an autoupdate later! pleaaaaase!
Neuromancer @ Feb 21st 2008 10:44AM
Yeah really, come on Epic, just give us the game. If we wanted mods that bad we'd buy a PC. Mods, user created maps and weapons and characters- all that does is bog down the system and make it so you have to constantly download someone else's shit just so you can play the damn game. Enough already!
Triforceowner @ Feb 21st 2008 1:17PM

I can't wait to wait an extra 2 minutes before a match so I can download some stupid sound clips. Skip the mods, they hardly are ever worth the while. Why not just have DLC as popular PC mods that are polished up and not stupid.
