GDC08: Far Cry 2 tech demo
Now playing on your local internet browser, this Far Cry 2 tech demo showcases the technology behind Ubi Soft's second entry into the Far Cry universe. Based on the initial videos we've seen the game looks great, and it's good to see Ubi Soft Montreal trumpetting their graphical horn considering Crytek is no longer involved with the franchise. We wondered what took Ubi Soft so long to go back to the Far Cry well again, but then we remembered they must want to release it alongside the upcoming blockbuster film adaptation.
[Thanks, Chris]

Am I the only one who thinks knocking down trees 100m away with a single 50 cal. shot from a handgun is a little less then realistic as they try to make us believe?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.

I thought it looked great - the wind effects were especially nice. It would be sweet to see a lush environment like this applied to a world like Elder Scrolls.

Very impressive technology, though I agree that all those limbs getting shot off seems a little over the top from one bullet.

Neat-looking and impressive, but doesn't add to gameplay, really.

As a tech demo that was impressive! Especially the environmental effects, I thought the vegetation swaying helped with the realism.
One thing though, when he was shooting bits of tree in the 2nd half of the video (the one in front of the rock) it looked as if the tree branch was respawning. He'd shoot it, it would fall off, but it looked as if the 'original' branch he shot was still there.
