Video: Coulton performs Rock Band DLC 'Still Alive'
Our Joystiq pals just posted a video of Jonathan Coulton's Friday night performance of (recently announced as Rock Band DLC) "Still Alive" at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall. Coulton brought a few folks on stage including tech guy Leo Laporte and Mahalo's Veronica Belmont to participate in the "Still Alive" performance. Their Rock Band skills are lukewarm at best, but we get the general idea and can't wait to sing to "Still Alive" from the comforts of our Rock Band setup at home. And in even more exciting news, Joystiq got a chance to chat with a few Harmonix employees who attended the concert and learned that currently (though subject to change) the "Still Alive" DLC single will be downloadable for $.99. For that price, no true Rock Band'er or Portal'er should be without GLaDOS' mega-hit.

JimJimBinks @ Feb 24th 2008 6:31PM
I think that was Veronica on guitar. She had to save the Leo (On Bass) a few times.
dancingtosirens @ Feb 24th 2008 6:41PM
@ jimjim
Im pretty sure they were set up in accordance to their parts on screen, so veronica was on bass and leo was on drums.
Anyways, totally looking forward to this song. a lot
Veronica @ Feb 24th 2008 8:15PM
Yes, I was on guitar on medium, and my part was on the right hand side of the screen. It was unfortunate placement on the stage :)

That was awesome XD even if they failed the song, that cake looked delicious and moist.
Magic Whiskey @ Feb 24th 2008 6:31PM
Here's hoping I don't suck.
Josh @ Feb 24th 2008 6:48PM
I loved Portal, but that doesn't seem like a fun Rock Band song at all.
Mikeawesome @ Feb 24th 2008 7:48PM
You have to take into account what levels these people are probably playing at.
Veronica on guitar- Probably Hard.
Leo on bass- Definitely Easy.
Dude on Drums- Probably easy.
Jonathan- ...? that one's tough to figure out, I mean, he did write (and produce?) the song. :|
webster1990 @ Feb 24th 2008 6:55PM

carnage rules @ Feb 24th 2008 8:35PM
.99 cents? Tell me that I don't have to use my credit card and that you just wrote .99 cents to make it easy.

So Veronica was surprisingly good to go with her good looks, Leo sucked huge balls and the drummer had no rhythm what so ever.

Leo's a busy guy. He probably didn't have a lot of time to practice.
Lewis @ Feb 24th 2008 9:28PM
whats the big hype about this song? its boring and very monotone. anyone can 100% it
Brett S @ Feb 25th 2008 1:11AM
Did you not play the game? The song was amazing and very funny. The song is kind of like a inside joke, its not funny if you do not understand the joke or in this case have not played the game.
Lewis @ Feb 25th 2008 5:44PM
never played it. i dont wanna spend so much only to get half life 2 and team fortress AGAIN
Santo @ Feb 24th 2008 10:07PM
This was a triumph. I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.
cakefoo @ Feb 24th 2008 10:58PM
That girl had a faulty guitar. RB peripherals are total crap, I had 2 guitar replacements and a drumset replacement within a couple weeks of each other and it wasn't even played maybe an hour a day.
TMD @ Feb 24th 2008 11:25PM
Still Alive is ok - what I want more if M4 Part II by the Faunts (from Mass Effect). :)
pkwifi @ Feb 25th 2008 1:44AM

I love Rock Band.
I love "still alive".
I couldn't sit through this video. :(
They were all on Easy (except for the singer who was arguably on medium) and it was blah quality.
xenocidic @ Feb 25th 2008 10:26AM
veronica said above ^^^ she was on Medium. i thought she did pretty good, she saved that cowboy dude a bunch of times
it's too bad they failed at 99%, i would've like to see j.c.'s vocal score.
Veronica @ Feb 25th 2008 12:12PM
Nope, I was on medium.
Velvetone Fusion @ Feb 25th 2008 5:21AM
Poor Leo. You'd think all those years hanging around Pat, some bass skills might have sank in.
j @ Feb 25th 2008 8:55AM
I hope it's the GLADOS version in the actual game and not John Coulton's, his version sucks
Bravo6 @ Feb 25th 2008 9:24AM
Is that the same Jonathon Coulton that does that hilariously awesome cover of Baby Got Back?
If you haven't heard it, listen to it NOW!
rockeranimefreak @ Feb 25th 2008 1:24PM
CAKE!
James @ Feb 25th 2008 3:00PM
I heard Leo talking about it on his show this weekend. I sometimes pick it up if I'm out doing errands, but I always thought he was some local guy out of DC... apparently not. Anyway, he thought it was pretty funny that Veronica had to "keep pulling his ass out of the fire".
This song is the first thing that's made me want to actually go out and buy Rock Band. I might even do it, if I can find a good deal -- as it stands, I'd rather have the ~3 full-price games I could get for the same money =-(
Egon Pax @ Feb 25th 2008 3:18PM
Well a lot of places have the bundle for $150 this week. That's $20 off the original price.
As for me, I'm getting this song as soon as it's available.
Jonathan said on his blog that he scores 95% (not sure what difficulty though.)
And way to rock it Veronica. :)
LoyalistRevolt @ Feb 25th 2008 6:50PM
Did none of you listen to the song she failed on purpose the gutair was dying and the drums and singer were still alive......Look at her she doesn't even try for half of it on purpose...
