Today, D3Publisher and Infinite Interactive
sent out word that the latest in the
Puzzle Quest franchise,
Puzzle Quest: Galactrix will be releasing to the Xbox Live Arcade sometime this Fall. Details are light, but D3Publisher revealed that
Galactrix will take the franchise into the sci-fi genre, nearly opposite of its older brother
Puzzle Quest: CotW. D3Publisher also promise to include a "rich and detailed storyline and fresh gameplay elements" into the mix. Which is a good thing, we wouldn't want
Galactrix to have a non-existent storyline or stale gameplay elements ... that gets a thumbs up from us. Feel free to browse the
Puzzle Quest: Galactrix concept art, renders and screenshots in the super awesome
gallery below.

Just what we need for the XBLA... More puzzle games.
Scott @ Feb 25th 2008 4:58PM
Think they will lower the crazy high price of the other one to something reasonable? Like 600 points perhaps?
Mark @ Feb 25th 2008 5:05PM
Crazy High? It's $15 and I think the DS and PSP versions are still higher. So the XBLA version is the cheapest out of all the versions.

@ Scott
When Puzzle Quest first game out on the DS it was like $30 bucks. They release an HD version, with Xbox Live support and achievements but you still complain that they are only charging you half-price??? It's fucking $30 for the Wii version!
I think the Community Arcade was a blessing in disguise for people like you, who think that all xbla games should be free to play or close to it. It's not like games cost anything to make, or the salaries of people the who code your favorite game need to be paid anything... I'm pretty sure your rent is $0 and you're bill-free also...
You can get 4-6 arcade games (new IPs even) for the price a new retail game, so the pricing is actually decent. Not perfect but reasonable. And all of the arcade games have demos so there are no surprises when you part with your money. You can't say that about all disc games.

Wow, I didn't realize I was ruffling so many feathers!
I understand it takes time and effort and money to make games. It doesn't change the fact that games for the most part come out at 800 points on the ollllll arcade. So for it to jump into the rare 1200 point category, I expected to be blown away by the gameplay. I would probably enjoy the game and the demo was fun, but it didn't hit 1200 point status for me.
And don't bust my balls that the price came down from the DS version. Beowolf (garbage, I understand, but it wasn't free to make either) was $60 when it came out, now people can't give it away. Friggin Oblivion can be picked up for $25 or cheaper.
All I am saying is when games age or new versions of games come out, normally you would see price reductions. I like the game and I like the IP, but I am willing to wait for the crazy high price (in comparison to most of the XBLA games) to fall for me to enjoy the full experience.
And for the record, ur both poopy faces. :)

So is this Puzzle Quest with a Sci-Fi Hexic board instead of a Fantasy Bejewelled board? Not that it would be a really bad thing. So it looks like you're the ship now. Does that mean companions might be the pilot or navigator now? And instead of a swords we can buy laser cannons for our ship?

I had to go make sure it didn't play like Hexic. Thankfully it doesn't, Hexic is too slow and painstaking to play battle after battle. (Finally got my black pearl cluster this weekend)

I'm glad they're changing the theme and layout. It's nice to see they're interested in making changes, without being too drastic, while still being familiar.

sounds cool...can't wait!

I am pumped to say the least. I was surprised at how in-depth the original puzzle quest was and although the price was a quite steep I'm glad I spent points on it. One of the most original and exciting game experiences I've had in quite a while. I still don't understand how it was ever like bejeweled besides the fact that you match three orbs. I don't remember ever being able to have powers and skills that could be used to change the the pieces of the board and a plethora of different enemies to fight in bejeweled, not to mention the tens of hundreds of differences between the two.
DemonGSides @ Feb 25th 2008 10:59PM
The original sucked, imo.

If the next PuzzleQuest isn't a Western, I will weep dusty tornado tears.

Yes this is really nice arcade news.
last week when N+ came out, I bought it for 10 dollars in the Arcade. Gamestop is preselling it for the PSP for 29.99. I am sure Puzzle Quest 2 will be 15 bucks as was the first but the DS and PSP guys are gonna pay double and we get the better version.
