Rumor: Lost Odyssey to get sequel

With the first of Mistwalker's exclusive 360 franchises already rumored to be getting a sequel, it would be remiss if there wasn't a reciprocating rumor for the second franchise. So, to be proper as possible, here we are reporting on a rumor of just that. Nikkei Trendy.net, a Japanese game site, posted an interview with the H&E Head of Microsoft. In the interview he made a comment to the effect of being satisfied with the games initial Japanese sales, and that the series will grow with time. Wait ... how can there be a series when there has only been one game? Well, there's actually several explanations here. The first and most likely explanation is translation error, it's probable that the translator simply didn't think much and used the word "series" when the original meaning was closer to "IP". The second possibility is that it is of course all too true, and the game is getting a sequel. Readers, what do you think? Is the game worthy of a sequel? If it is being made, should Mistwalker drop it in favor of their rumored MMO?

I sure hope Lost Odyssey is continued. I haven't completed the game yet (Midway through Disc 3) so I don't really know if the game ends in a way that can be continued in a series (Hopefully nobody spoils that either!!), but I know this is one of the most enjoyable Xbox games I've ever played. I love almost everything about Lost Odyssey, would love to see more :).

I couldn't agree with you more. I want this series to continue, and even at this early stage of this IP's life, it has already become a system seller for me. In other words, were Mistwalker to put future sequels on a console other then ones I own, I would purchase that console for this game.

I can not ever remember being so moved by a video game.

More power to them, they'll have to have something to combat against FFXIII and what it will do for PS3 sales (especially in Japan)...

Lost Odyssey is a great game, why not have a sequel

Lost Odyssey is one of my favorite Xbox 360 experiences so far.

A sequel would make me weep with joy.

Lost Odyssey is a great game, every aspect of it hooks you and the story is one of the best I've seen in awhile. You would have to be nuts not to want a sequal on this game.

Lost Odyssey is by far the best RPG I've played since Chrono Cross and considering it's made by the same talented bunch I shouldn't have expected any less. It's pretty sad it didn't get the glory from the mainstream press it deserved. I mean if Bioshock got all the hype for being a mediocre shooter with generic enemies and a decent story then surely an amazing RPG such as this deserves more.

I've read some backlash concerning some of the reviews... I could be wrong on the detail of this, as I've not played it yet, but it was basically revolving around reviews claiming the game doesn't have an overworld map of sorts that these games usually have, instead using a point to point system. Supposedly this isn't true?

So it just seems like another case of an RPG not being played enough to get a fair shake. I notice this with pretty much any RPG that I go back and read a review for after I've gotten far in it.

There is a world map and you can move wherever you want whenever with some minor obvious restrictions. As to being able to move entirely freely from area to area on foot, ship, submarine or airship this isn't always the case which is refreshing. Usually the environments or "areas" are so vast once you leave them you couldn't imagine having to physically walk several hundred miles to the next area. Granted you could via ship (air, water or submarine) but there is the option to "warp" to a previously visited area though it does involve a whole travel cutscene with excellent music and a giant map.

The game is nearly flawless in all aspects. The only gripe I could see one having is you can't fool to much with your characters armor and the menus are a bit archaic (though they are funtional and easy to navigate).

That or there are people who don't enjoy the fantastic series of short stories from the 1000 years of dreams. The stories are not required reading but honestly after enjoying the few I've unlocked I can't imagine the game without them or gamers complaining about the OPTION of reading.

I can't imagine a 360 owner or RPG fan missing out on this game, it is THAT good. I only rented it and I feel bad for doing so. This company deserves the success and your 60 dollars. I'll probably buy it later in the year when I have the cash just to show my support.

Well considering Lost Odyssey's story is mainly based off the novel of short stories from Shigematsu Kiyoshi, hence all the well written dreams came from, that this isn't a surprise to make a sequel since he wrote hundreds of short stories about Kaim.

He does use the word 'series' in the original interview. In response to the less than expected sales, he offers that the first games in most RPG series don't necessarily become instant megahits, of course implying that later games would sell better...and sort of confirming that Lost Odyssey is a series. Then he says that the game's gotten a good response from players and feels it's a "good start." Not 100% but good enough for me. Lost Odyssey is a great game and I hope to see more!

I hope this is true. I just finished disc 3 last night, and the game only seems to be getting better. Blue Dragon was OK, but Lost Odyssey really scratches my JRPG itch.

hang on sequel already being rumoured, the game hasnt even been released yet here in the uk, i preordered my copy from hmv (thanks for the great deal info btw). i also know that this game has been out in the u.s for a few weeks now, but still, aint it a bit soon to start talking about sequels, dont developers usally see wot the world fink of the first game b4 they make a second?
