GTAIV pre-order at UK retailer nabs you points, gamerpics

Correct us if we're wrong but aren't pre-order gifts used as an incentive to get people to purchase a retail copy of an upcoming game that isn't already on the best sellers radar? Unless you count that sweet art book for the Barbie Horse Adventures MMO.
U.K. based retailer GAME is so stoked for you to purchase Grand Theft Auto IV that they're throwing logic out the window and giving away MS Points and Gamerpics to ensure your pre-order. Yeah, yeah. We know GAME is doing it to ensure they get more orders than their competition but getting freebies for wanting Grand Theft Auto IV makes us worry that they're going to force the overpriced special edition down our throats when we pickup the game on April 29. Can't go wrong with Gamerpics though, right? Apparently they're all the incentive you need.
Note:
[Thanks, Callum]

GAME have competition?
Xav de Matos @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:55AM
While they are pretty much the only specialty retailer for games in the U.K. since their acquisition of Gamestation, they do have other competition for game sales.
Boff @ Mar 3rd 2008 12:00PM
Didn't know they'd bought Gamestation!
Doesn't leave much in the way of competition then - HMV, WHSmiths and the supermarkets.
Espiox @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:01PM
Yeah, Game bought Gamestation, but the companies are still pretty much separate at the store level (I work at a GS).
On that note, GS are doing the same pre-order deal if you'd prefer to shop there.
SadisticHam @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:29PM
Smiths and HMV aren't really competition, there prices are outrageous compared.
Only real competition now is online. Play.com is the best bet but GAME even have a stake in that.
I just use boomerang rentals now but ya, I'd prefer some competition over just game myself.
Any idea how many points?
Question Mark @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:44PM
Do any of those online stores ship games outside of the UK? Like to the U.S.?
Ample Salty @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:45PM
I changed my pre-order to GAME last week when I heard about the offer. The site says 500 gamer points which I think is pretty good. I figure the DLC will be 800 when it commes out so it's only a few hundred points short of getting it free.
SadisticHam @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:46PM
I presume your questions directed at me? Boomerang only ships within the UK but you guys have plenty of video game rental sites anyway.
Play i don't know about though, go to their site and find out.
brownmurder @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:50PM
on the game website it clearly says 500ms points

@brownmurder: On the original GAME read link it only says Xbox Live Points in that banner image, but thank you for clearing it up.
Benny @ Mar 3rd 2008 6:14PM
Blockbuster will give you £5 off the game when you preorder. So if it comes out at 34.99, you'll only pay 30. No adverts or signs, but ask the staff.
