Recap: X3F Live and Maybe Next Time Buddy

First, I'd like to thank everyone who offered their help and wanted to join in on the Maybe Next Time Buddy funnery, but couldn't get in. There were only a handful of slots available (like, five) and we sadly couldn't include everyone. But, to be honest, the "event" didn't last all that long. Let me explain.
Remember, to earn the Maybe Next Time achievement we were lucky enough to be able to fill a six person party and unlock it in the Rumble Pit playlist, because this is the ONLY Halo 3 multiplayer achievement that can be earned in a social playlist. All the others must be done in Lone Wolves. So, the only thing stopping us from unlocking this vehicle hijacking achievement was the matchmaking hopper. We were at the mercy of the mystical Halo 3 matchmaking gods, because we had to wait until they gave us a vehicle equipped map (Snowbound or Isolation).
So, it worked like this. Me (SuperDunners), Xav (Snypz), Grotesque1, THE WIDEGUY, ZEBRA NINER and Tha Choopa headed into the Rumble Pit with our fingers crossed in hopes of getting a map featuring a hijackable vehicle. Upon searching, the Halo 3 matchmaking gods dealt us Construct which is very much anti-vehicle, so we unanimously vetoed only to be greeted with a game of Swords on Epitaph. Okay I thought, we expected this. We played our game of Swords and THE WIDEGUY came out on top, getting his last kill by tossing a "lucky grenade" at my feet. Damn lucky grenades. The game ends, The Choopa mysteriously leaves us (he probably had laundry to do or something) and in came soulles warlord to replace the empty seat. Again, we start the Rumble Pit search as I pondered how long it was going to take to get a map that had a vehicle. And just as I was about to start Vegas style wagers to see who could correctly guess how long it would take to get a vehicle map, wouldn't you know up pops Slayer on Isolation. ISOLATION! ISOLATION! ISOLATION! If you aren't familiar, the map Isolation has a Ghost in it which means Maybe Next Time Buddy had decided to come to our party.
After taking a quick breather and easing my excitement (Xav said I got a bit too excited) we all rushed downstairs to hop on the Ghost and earn our Maybe Next Time Buddy achievement. And yes, I'll admit, there was a Spartan-orgy of Ghost hijacking that went on under Isolation. But in the end, it was that easy. It didn't take more than fifteen minutes of being online when we were graced with some Rumble Pit Isolation, Maybe Next Time Buddy achievements and happiness. In a moment of disbelief, we all went our separate ways each proudly wearing our newly earned achievement. I should also quickly mention that Xav then left to go team up with Richard to do a little "Halo 3 language filter achievement achieving" which I must say is quite the enjoyable story. You can read about it over here and learn about the interesting outcome which we obtained proof of. Those silly kids.
So, there you have it. With the help, support and X3F love, you guys helped us earn Maybe Next Time Buddy glory and me a 1000 Gamerscore in Halo 3. Thanks a bazillion! Also, before you go, you should take a look at the X3F Live gallery embedded below starting at the first screenshot. Not only will you find a few sexy Halo 3 screenshots cataloging our achievement journey, but you can also read witty commentary, make your own comments and view a pretty nifty panorama shot I whipped together. Finally, you can download and experience the awesomeness that was the X3F Live Maybe Next Time Buddy event by grabbing the video in my file share. It can be best described as both rather dull and thwacktastic! Again, thanks to everyone for the support as I hope to see you all at a bigger and more accommodating X3F Live event in the near future.

Damn, I missed it! Stupid me having a girlfriend...
bnun @ Mar 6th 2008 5:54PM
Any word on an Overkill party? I've been stuck at 995 GS for a long time. I had some many Triple Kills, but I always fall just a bit short on the Overkill.
JBurton90 @ Mar 6th 2008 5:59PM
Would be so hilarious if you were banned for switching your language to Japanese....
Doom3killer @ Mar 6th 2008 6:03PM
why not get them by themselves? aren't most fanboys mad at people that do this thing?
HazyCloud @ Mar 6th 2008 6:04PM
@ bnun,
Overkill is ranked free for all only. X3F would have to use the language filter trick.
Ciros 360 @ Mar 6th 2008 6:07PM
I also mean to participate in these things but I'm always afraid there will be so people that I'll just quit anyway. Congrats on the achievements.
fyodor007 @ Mar 6th 2008 6:09PM
It's not much of an achievement if you need to cheat... IMO.
SytheMaster @ Mar 6th 2008 6:12PM
I was so lucky when I got my overkill achievment. It was on the halloween playlist, I was the zombie and I ran into 5 humans, 15 secs later buh-bip 5g Overkill. I still need mongoose mowdown and 2 for one to get my 1000 though.
WNxConroi @ Mar 6th 2008 6:28PM
Sounded like a cool event, wish I could have attended it.
Glitch W @ Mar 6th 2008 6:42PM
Dustin CAN haz ninja sword!
ZEBRA NINER @ Mar 6th 2008 6:59PM
w00t! It was good times. I already had all 1000 gamerscore, but I knew it would be a momentous and historical occasion that I didn't want to miss. I was fully prepared to trudge through countless matches, but we lucked out!
Not to mention I got to kill Dustin and Xav a few times and that's just fun. I think you should add a video clip, and put some ceremonial music to it.
Joel Purvis @ Mar 6th 2008 7:42PM
I can't believe you guys are actually posting an article bragging about how you cheated. As a result, you're achievement means less then nothing. If you were going to get it that way, why didn't you just go into matchmaking and say "you guys want to go for achievements?" like all the other little girls out there that also suck. I have 1000 gamerscore in Halo 3, but unlike you, I earned mine.
EDW @ Mar 6th 2008 7:54PM
so what exactly is this language achievement thing?
ps: ^^^ lighten up dude. it's just for fun, after all.
Joel Purvis @ Mar 6th 2008 8:11PM
I know it's just for fun. I guess some people think cheating is fun. Next time I go bowling I'm gonna be the score keeper, then I'm gonna keep boosting my own score with points I didn't get. Then when someone calls me on it, I'm gonna say "hey! It's just for fun!" They're encouraging this kind of B.S. in a community that's already overrun with douchebaggery.
Marty Joyce @ Mar 6th 2008 8:21PM
someone forgot to take their Prozac...
I will admit I got the slice and dice achievement when we got swords on the pit and met up in the sword room and killed each other with swords with 1 guy trying to disrupt us in vain. must have been you. Although I don't have a 1000 gamerscore I will "cheat" to get it if I have to, I just don't care enough about it to get a ninja sword on my back.
KNUCKLES @ Mar 6th 2008 9:25PM
Wow, thanks for the shout out, I didn't have laundry to do (or, at least I wasn't doing it), my connection likes to play games with me and it decided to disconnect...
i'm "Tha Choopa" btw...
Chandler Greenwood @ Mar 6th 2008 11:44PM
Ha ha ha, congrats you guys!
Hey, in the end it all in good fun. Isn't that the reason we play games in the first place?
lysernix @ Mar 7th 2008 3:21AM
congrats on the cheev man... i woulda been there had there been more than, well 5 whole slots!
alkeels @ Mar 7th 2008 3:47AM
Damn! i missed it, any chance you'll be doing this again?
cheers

webster1990 @ Mar 7th 2008 6:12AM
i think it quite sad when people complain about a group of friends having a match to getsome cheevos after (i am assuming from what i have heard in the fancasts) countless hours of trying to get the cheev.
lighten up, its a game.
Xav de Matos @ Mar 7th 2008 8:08AM
Thanks for the help everyone.
As for the cheevo detractors regarding our "cheating," we're only playing the system. There are no mods or game genies in play here... these technicalities exist in the game and have since it launched in September 2007. If Bungie didn't like it they could have fixed it with a patch, but I guess they don't care.
I guess I get why people might be upset if they did this legit. I would be aggro if someone cheated to get 1000 in COD4 cuz I did that myself and am very proud of it. But I'm talking 30GS here! LOL
BUT, in case I sound like I'm defending us too much I'll just repeat what I said in my blog:
After getting the other 38,518 points legitimately… you bet I'm happy! LAWL
But hey, my motto? Don't take life too seriously, no one gets out alive.
alkeels @ Mar 7th 2008 9:12AM
Nicely put Xav,
I know most of you have got his achievement, but any chance you will do something like this again, it's great for the xbox community! IMO
The Fuzz 53 @ Mar 7th 2008 9:35AM
Maybe Next Time Buddy really is the dumbest achievement. In order to get it, you have to screw up first, then try to redeem yourself. People usually just end up killing you instead of hijacking the vehicle, and Isolation really is the only map with any reason to use a vehicle in Lone Wolves.
Mongoose Mowdown ranks as the #2 dumbest, as there is almost no reason to get on one in a Lone Wolves match.
I had to "cheat" to get MNTB, but that was the only one. I managed to get all of the other ones honestly.
DjDATZ @ Mar 7th 2008 11:45AM
Congrats Dustin!! :D
Triforceowner @ Mar 7th 2008 8:35PM
I believe Bungie does ban accounts that participate in extraordinarily large amounts of achievement gain in one match, especially if it is a language other than English. 1up podcast did a little bit on it a while back.
