Dutch retailer advertises Euro Xbox 360 price drop [Update]

Update: While this flyer is out in the wild, it does not confirm that it is actually happening. Microsoft has yet to make any announcements regarding the supposed cut. This article has been edited to reflect that.
According to Dutch retailer Bart Smit, the rumored price cut of the Euro Xbox 360 is happening. As previously speculated the Xbox 360 Elite has dropped from 549.95€ to 399.95€ , the Pro console (which includes Viva Pinata and Forza Motorsport 2) was lowered from 399.95€ to 299.95€ while the Arcade bundle is down from 279.95€ to 199.95€.
At 199.95€ the Xbox 360 Arcade would become the cheapest console of this generation in Europe, edging out the Nintendo Wii which retails for 249.95€. The Microsoft camp has stated that the key to better sales in 2008 is the European market, where Microsoft is forced to fend off the strong PlayStation brand awareness and the popularity of the Nintendo Wii. However, considering Xbox 360's popularity in the Western market we don't recommend North American buyers begin holding their breath for a price-drop just yet.

And I just paid £300 for my Elite on Monday after getting RRoD on Sunday.

It also doesn't hurt that the dollar is at records lows vs. the Euro. I would so get a second xbox at $199.99.
Now, if that pesky PS3 would go down to that price. I could actually get both.

matt, €400 works out as £305 if it makes you feel any better

if it happened here it would be ALL OVER for the ps3

That can't be, why is the 360 so expensive in Europe, usually we pay so much more in the UK than the rest of Europe.
James Frazer @ Mar 9th 2008 4:40PM
That has to be wrong, the Elite is already £300 here in the UK, so there's no way it used to be £419 in Europe and now down to £305, that's impossible.

The major drop is the Arcade bundle, the Pro and Elites would get a small cut. But getting that Arcade to under the price of the Wii would be the story here.

Also, keep in mind that the price of the Xbox 360 in the UK does not necessarily reflect the entire European market.

A U.S. price drop is inevitable. MS is probably doing it in waves, first Canada, now Europe so that they can manage supplies since demand in Europe will go up because of the price cut. 150euro drop for the Elite, that is ridonkolous!
I am guessing a price drop for U.S. in 3-4weeks right in time for GTA IV. It just has to happen (plus I am from the future and have foreknowledge of these events).

I see Argos already has the Elite down to €379. Just wondering whether it's not worth paying the extra and going for the PS3 since HD is on it's way out..? Also, Tesco currently has 25% off (as vouchers) on all games and consoles this weekend (St Patrick's Day weekend in Eire)... Wonder what their price is on the Elite. Would be nice for €379 less 25%!! That would be €285?? That's £219 for an Elite! Wow!
