More European price drop news

We reported previously on a European retailer advertising the 360 price drop and here we are reporting on another article about the very same thing, and this time it appears to carry a bit more weight. The Financial Times Deutschland has an exclusive on this, claiming that the official prices of the units will drop from 280 and 349 Euro, to 199 and 299 Euro. Now assuming that a fairly well known financial reporting body such as the Financial Times Deutschland isn't lying, this could be a huge for the European 360 market. It would allow the Arcade unit to undercut the cost of the Wii by a good 50 Euro, which is a bullet point that was almost undoubtedly taken into account, and it would leave the 360 well ahead of the PS3's current European MSRP. It seems the only thing we're waiting on with this one is the final confirmation from Microsoft.

Does that graph make sense to anyone?
DemonGSides @ Mar 9th 2008 9:45PM
Makes total sense
Ian Murray @ Mar 9th 2008 9:47PM
Actually, the line should be going up left right, instead of down.
The way it is now means other consoles do better when the 360 prices drops.
But then again, it's just a post picture.
Mikeawesome @ Mar 9th 2008 9:47PM
No, it doesn't make sense.
As the 360's cost decreases the success of other consoles increases?
It really makes zero sense.
Terrence Stasse @ Mar 9th 2008 9:53PM
If it's incorrect I apologize.
I figured it meant that as the success of the other consoles increases, the price of the 360 must drop. But it's been years since I've had to use any form of real graph and I am admittedly ignorant as to their use and creation.
I'll try to stay away from graphs in the future, especially if they distract from the actual story.
DemonGSides @ Mar 9th 2008 9:57PM
It makes sorta sense, if you put like, the Wii at the farthest right.
Also, a map title would be nice.
Such as "The price of the 360's projected success as compared to other consoles"
Arno @ Mar 9th 2008 10:39PM
Oh ok, now that you explain it I guess it makes kind of sense. It just had me befuddled there at first.
PerfectStrategy @ Mar 9th 2008 10:40PM
Actually Terrence is correct with the graph. Generally speaking, the independent variable would be put on the x-axis and the dependent variable would be put on the y-axis accordingly. Hence the graph reads, 'as the success of other consoles increases, the xbox 360's price decreases'.
So he is implying that the 360 price cut is in response to the PS3 gaining steam in Europe, more PS3 success = more 360 price cut, and the wii to an extent I suppose, even though I think Microsoft knows the wii is fighting a different battle.
peter @ Mar 9th 2008 10:57PM
simple, the more successful the other platforms are, the lower the cost of xbox 360s are.
OBM @ Mar 9th 2008 11:43PM
lol who cares? It's a picture, concentrate on the story...
cranium @ Mar 10th 2008 1:42AM
how could you possibly expect us to concentrate when there's a graph nearby!!?!

One of the biggest retailers in Sweden just put up a big commercial on their hompage.
They say the new prices will go in to effect starting 2008-03-14 and the prices are:
* Arcade 1899 SEK
* Premium 2599 SEK
* Elite 3499 SEK
This will put the Premium at about the same price level as the Wii and the Arcade of course a lot lower.
Now if MS just could work on something to get rid of their "busted console" reputation then they probably will start selling them...
SadisticHam @ Mar 10th 2008 7:22AM
I heard an interesting rumor that there dropping it temporally for the Xboxs 10th birthday, no idea if that's true I've not really looked into it.
Either way, sorry to say it but i doubt this will help. Pissed off with the neglection we're getting in the Uk, the rest of Europe is even more neglected.
Boff @ Mar 10th 2008 7:45AM
Why is everyone moaning about the graph? It's not hard to understand. As other console's sales increase, the 360 price decreases. Job done.
Yay to a price cut too, might have to pick up an Elite now. Wonder if the trade-in (old Premium for new Elite) prices will be affected much?
midnightz @ Mar 10th 2008 5:45PM
Amazon UK have reduced prices dramatically; the Arcade is now only £150, which is £30 cheaper than a Wii!
Smitty @ Mar 10th 2008 11:16AM
looks like this one panned out

Here are some other ideas on why the price dropped.
1 The hardware is cheaper to make.
2. The dollar is weaker against the Euro
3. There is a little game called GTAIV coming out and just like they did with Madden they are dropping the price ahead of its launch.
