Interplay resurrection report: new website

Well, calling it a "website" might be a bit of a stretch. It's more of a digital poster really. Still, it looks like the rebirth of Interplay is officially underway. Fastidious X3F readers will recall that the company submitted an SEC filing late last year that detailed plans to return to the video game development business, largely in thanks to the profits made in the sale of the Fallout IP to Bethesda. Said plans included the revival of several of Interplay's well-known franchises including Earthworm Jim, MDK, and Baldur's Gate. It seems that Interplay is moving forward with its plans, as the new website will attest. Consisting solely of the image seen above, Interplay.com clearly references all three of the franchises mentioned above as well as Fallout (most likely the MMO Interplay has been talking about since 2006). Let's hope we see some details sooner rather than later.
[Thanks, Boff]

Here's hoping for a Rock 'N Roll Racing II.
Aron @ Mar 12th 2008 10:41AM
Oh heck ya, that was the best game ever. It had everything you could ask for. I beat the game again a few years ago when i modded my xbox.
Blackheart @ Mar 12th 2008 10:35AM
lousy companies should stay dead. Herve Caen rode that horse into the ground and it would be a shame if he got the opportunity to do it all over again.
dvdguy @ Mar 12th 2008 10:40AM
Clayfighter, FTW!
James Lockwood @ Mar 12th 2008 10:42AM
Should be noted the latest Baldur's Gate will NOT be crafted by BioWare.
Boff @ Mar 12th 2008 10:46AM
I'd be happy with any of those franchises. I think MDK could interesting with today's technology.
Boff @ Mar 12th 2008 10:47AM
could *be* interesting. Sorry.
AnOffday @ Mar 12th 2008 10:59AM
Aw man I loved MDK2.
ChromaTick @ Mar 12th 2008 11:08AM
I would love it if they did an update to M.A.X. I still break out that game and play it sometimes.... actually that would be a good game for XBLA.
And when I say M.A.X., I mean the original not the piece of crap sequel they made.
Morgon @ Mar 12th 2008 11:14AM
** I WANT A SEQUEL TO CASTLES (II)! **
And I second MDK .. MDK2 was incredible!
Anyone remember Out of This World? That was actually a fairly revolutionary.
Other personal favorites:
Battle Chess
Die By The Sword (One of the first games to have 'analog' arm movements?? i.e. on Keypad movement, hitting 1 then 9 did a full upward diagonal slash. Was fun to lop off enemies' limbs :) )
Blackthorne
Interplay was far from a 'lousy company', at least in their heyday. Here's hoping they re-invent themselves with the same vision they did when they started.
Did I mention I want another Castles game?
Boff @ Mar 12th 2008 11:45AM
@Morgon: I remember Out Of This World, except it was called 'Another World' in my neck of the woods.
The animations were so fluid! Like a little man had actually crawled inside my computer!
That was another of those jaw-dropping Amiga moments I remember so fondly!
I thought that was by Delphine software though?
ChromaTick @ Mar 12th 2008 11:57AM
@Morgon,
I'd play a sequel to Castles. Did you ever play the Stronghold games from Firefly?
Mark @ Mar 12th 2008 12:07PM
I'm not sure if the first thing they want to do coming out of bankruptcy is make an MDK game. I don't think the franchise is big enough to justify it as one of the first wave of games.
Jesse @ Mar 12th 2008 12:10PM
why does everybody love MDK 2 so much, it wasn't half as good as the first
Morgon @ Mar 12th 2008 12:33PM
Looking up the Stronghold game, I believe I played the demo of it, but never ponied up.
I remember trying to compare it to Castles II.. I dunno, something about being excommunicated from the Church for expanding your empire is entertaining :P (Although, to be honest, I typically play the 'good' side of anything and hated when that happened)
I really liked the small B&W movies that would play after major events. Unfortunately, I'm not sure any company would release such a relatively 'relaxed' game in today's high-tension tweakfest.
As for [Out of this|Another] World, looks like Interplay published it to the SNES, Sega MD and the Apple II. I always played the PC version, but some reason anytime I think of the cover, I think of the Interplay logo at the bottom (could be due to my frequent visits to rental stores back in the SNES days)

I want Wasteland! I know Fallout was loosely based on it, but I want to fire RPG's at huge Mark V tanks, and add machine-gun wielding hookers to my posse.
Odog4ever @ Mar 12th 2008 2:06PM
So... Earthworm Jim HD Remix on XBLA confirmed?
The Fuzz 53 @ Mar 12th 2008 1:38PM
How has nobody mentiona Boogerman!?
FloodCombatForm @ Mar 12th 2008 2:00PM
I hope this means we see the return of Earthworm Jim, either as a port or a Bionic Commando Rearmed inspired remake. Hopefully it's the latter.
Sunny @ Mar 12th 2008 3:40PM
@Odog4ever: I just hope this brings the PSP remake of Earthworm Jim back on track. XBLA would be sweet too though. :)
Zeus.:God @ Mar 12th 2008 4:07PM
I don't care what this article says (haven't read it), I *NEED* The Lost Vikings on XBLA.
stigma @ Mar 28th 2008 12:01PM
