Would You Rather ... Takeover Edition
In our continuing effort to bring you fresh and interesting content, X3F presents Would You Rather ... a weekly feature that asks you the hard questions. The point? If you had to choose one or the other, which would you go for?
Consolidation. The word sounds so ... dirty. Yet, companies seem to be piling on top of each other to stay afloat as rising costs of game creation threaten to ruin the little guys. Sometimes, like in the case of this week's WUR, larger companies decide they should absorb their competition having some gamers scream MONOPOLY! Speaking of Monopoly, this week's WUR is all about EA and their recent bids to gobble up competitors Ubisoft and Take Two Interactive. Well X3F Army, which would you rather join Team EA?

Wow. Last week's poll wasn't even a contest. It reminds us of when kids pick Dan in Street Fighter. Yeah, it's funny and all but come on - this isn't even proving anything! Looks like nearly 60% of voters are looking forward to Street Fighter IV over the HD Remix. Let's just hope they both work online.
Sure, we want it all ... but that isn't the point of WUR, we're all about the tough questions here folks! Or was it nonsense? We could never remember.

tough one... I went for Take Two because they only have one IP I care about and you can't do much to mess up GTA.

That's a toughie but I went with Take Two in the end. What's the worst EA can do? Release the same GTA each year but with an 'updated' soundtrack?

Wow that is a grim outlook either way. EA needs to be put under the microscope by the government for anti competitive practices.

I chose Take 2 because Ubisoft has more IPs that I care about, and wouldn't want EA getting its hands on.

Ubi. As much as it would suck, I think T2 being assimilated would be worse for the industry. No sports games competition, and the biggest franchise in gaming would go to the company that is best at sucking the life out of anything good.

I read a good article about EA the other week. It was one of their guys talking about how they're trying to change the image gamers have of them just churning out meaningless sequels every year and how they are stifling innovation.
Can't find it anywhere now! It was either Eurogamer or 1Up I'm sure of it! Or maybe I just dreamt it and it wasn't about EA at all.

I don't want them to take over either of them! Both of those options would suck! EA shouldn't be allowed to buy anymore companies! MONOPOLY!
If I had to choose...Ubi. The fact of losing all 2K sports to the stupid EA sports games is pathetic. Plus with Bioshock and GTA, T2 should stay right where they are. But then again, so should Ubi. I say no to both!

Yeah, I've heard that Take Two's sports games would benefit from a merger with EA. I only really care about GTA. Ubisoft on the other hand has made some of my favorite games.
However, I don't think it will really matter because I'm sure that EA won't screw with any new companies they buy. I'm sure they've learned from the mistakes in the past.

I can't believe so many people chose Take Two. Take 2 has the most controversial games. Letting EA put their corporate censors to work on Take 2 games (Bioshock, GTA, Manhunt, Bully, etc) would be severely damaging to one of the only game companies that actually doesn't bend to political will when they make their games.
GTA would suck so bad if it was censored.

I would vote Take-2 but I would die before I saw EA owning the Civilization IP. But Ubisoft has lots of good IPs that I would hate to see in EA's hands.

EA really needs to keep their hands off of these other companies. Game innovation at EA seems to be virtually nonexistent, but these other two companies seem to be churning out some original and fun titles from time to time.

Yeah lets have EA take over T2. This way we can get GTAIV every year from now until the end of eternity. *rolls eyes*
Fuck EA, everyone great once in a while they will come out with something decent, or hell even good, but then they take that game and add some new textures over it and make us pay $60 for it. Thats why they are starting to fall off, HARD. I foresee in the next year or two EA's fall from grace, and when that happens they just wont have the money to keep shelling out for all these shitty sequels. Thats ok though, Activision will take up that mantel with gusto.

I would hate for EA to take over Take Two because I do not want EA messing with Take Two's IPs. Also Ubisoft could use a little better direction and creativity. Its a no brainer to me.

Ubisoft has too many good shooter franchises that EA would just turn into cereal. GTA and such I could care less about, let EA run TakeTwo's games instead.

EA taking over T2 would suck...but it would surely be better than EA taking over Ubisoft. after all, Ubisoft has been pumping out some really great and original games lately like Assassin's Creed and publishing some of the more obscure Japanese titles in America (Enchanted Arms and No More Heroes, for example.) i wouldn't want EA stifling that creativity.

I don't know what I would do if EA took over T2, there goes my NBA 2K games which are amazing unlike the arcade feeling, made for dumb people unrealistic NBA live that nobody i've ever known buys since the dreamcast came out, I really hope they leave T2 alone. Other than Skate and maybe NHL EA sucks and shouldn't kill the competition to progress their world takeover plot, Its bad enough when the 360 dropped a lot of us bought madden (which wasn't very good) because we had no choice in american football games and the very next year I know a few people like myself who bought and sold the piece of crap less then 2 weeks later

I agree that EA like to churn titles out like the games industry has only days to live but to say that they don't make anything good are bring anything to the industry is just a plain lie.
To say that they aren't innovative or make new games is also a lie.
If you just look at some of the games that they have made or are assosiated with devloped or been responsible for its publishing you might think differnt.
They have in there first try made a skating game better then tony hawk.
Fifa 08 is one of the best in the series
Burnout Paradise also one of the best driving games to have been released in awhile.
The simpsons probably the best tv series to game conversion.
There associated crysis the most high-tek game made .
Lastly for innovation you just need to look at spore which will be released this year.
All in all they like to make lots of copy's of there games but they still make good games if you just look at what they have done.

I voted for T2 just because Ubisoft has some many good games. Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, Silent Hunter, Splinter Cell. I'd rather have them then GTA.
