The latest in Lionhead's Fable 2 video diary series has been released, this time focusing on the game's magic and co-op features. The co-op information is stuff we've all heard before (sorry, no Live co-op confirmation here), but there is a snippet or two about exactly how the magic system melds with the one button combat system. Basically, rather than pulling up a spell menu to cast spells, spells are chosen based off of how long the button is pressed and other factors. For instance, if a player casts a spell while pointing the left stick at an enemy, then a ranged spell will be cast. If the left stick is left neutral while pressing the button, then the game will instead select an area effect spell that emanates from the character outward. How exactly a player controls which spell is cast (fire, lightning, etc.) isn't made clear, although there is a mention of players setting up spells ahead of time.
The rest of the video focuses on Peter Molyneux's presence at GDC and the public debut of Fable 2's couch co-op. Keep an eye out for a special guest appearance by CliffyB and even a shot of Major Nelson. Hopefully next time we can actually see some footage of the magic in action.
they dont talk about it beacause they dont want to promise something they might have to cut if it doesnt work well. I dont think this has been done in an adventure/rpg game to this day (pc excluded).
Talking about features that dont make it into the game is called the Peter Molineux syndrome, and I think he is fighting against it... to make sure nothing is super hyped and then "missing" from the game.
I agree that Live enabled co-op would add a great deal to Fable 2. And at this rate they could still be implementing it and just haven't said anything... I am, however, glad that they have confirmed and are implementing local co-op play. Way too many games overlook that aspect. I enjoy playing on Xbox Live as much as the next person, but I enjoy playing with people I know right there in the room with me. For that, I say bravo Lionhead Studios and Peter Molyneux! Definitely looking forward to some co-op Fable 2!
I believe the reason they wouldnt want a LIVE co-op is because of the power that the other player has in the host's world. I mean you could literally put a gun to the player's wife/husband and say I will kill him unless you change the loot to 75/25 . Not saying that its not possible for someone sitting in your couch to do that but I believe that it will be that much more harder.
boo online! I want co-op on the same box! The people I would play with are my roomates and we were already heartbroken when Crackdown wasn't same-box co-op. It would have been so much fun. I'm sick of all these games with co-op being online on Live. It'd be great to have both so we can stop the fighting but PLEASE give us offline co-op
There is no pleasing SadisticHam. A feature that no other RPG has done, and Ham requires that it be included.
While we're at it, if they don't have the ATM feature where I can exchange my gold in Fable 2 for real money which is printed out of the xbox 360, I am going to be seriously pissed.

Sounds like no Online. Honestly, why don't they just come out and bloody say it?
"That's what i love about fable 2 if your friends not around you can just carry on playing and when they come over just throw a controler over"
Er how about JUST GIVE US LIVE CO-OP AND MAKE THE GAME AWESOME BECAUSE OF IT.
I do NOT see how they can not realize people want online co-op, they seem oblivious to it.

Let me remind you all of when Halo 3's online co-op wasn't confirmed...
Exactly.
