Future Shop offers $100 trade for HD DVD players
We didn't think HD DVD early adopters could get any luckier when Best Buy started handing out $50 gift cards, but we were wrong. Future Shop, Canada's largest retailer of consumer electronics, is offering a $100 trade-in promotion on all HD DVD players towards the purchase of select Samsung or LG model Blu-ray / HD DVD combo players (which retail for $499.99 CND each).
Future Shop has sweetened the deal to consumers by promising to donate returned HD DVD Players the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada for use in their after-school and evening programs. Charity and a discount in the HD format war? That's the Canadian hospitality we're accustomed to hearing about!
The promotion began on March 7 and will run until April 3 across Canada.

The HD DVD player plays regular DVDs too. It's an opportunity to get some DVD players out there more than HD-leftovers.
Somewhere in the US this should be happening too.

firstly this news is old... and secondly... is this blog not aware that Future Shop is owned by Best Buy?

@Jon: First, we didn't say that this offer was new news, in fact in the post we say it began on March 7 and runs until April 3. Since we didn't report it we thought gamers who have HD DVD addons might want to participate.
Secondly, are you really asking the Canadian guy who works here if he knows that Future Shop is owned by Best Buy? Yeah, I know. Not sure how that matters in this story though.
Thanks for the input.

How is this deal better than $50 from Best Buy for doing nothing? There's no way in hell I'd trade my HD DVD player in for $100.
