Rumor: Halo 3 to get Lockout remake

First off, remember this story is strictly in the realm of rumors and loose talk. But with the latest Bungie news update came a hint that we would see more classic remakes coming soon. And a further hint was given when a poster on Bungie.net posted a scan of a magazine cover and promptly had his post deleted. Whether or not the above concept art is actually that for a Lockout-remake map in Halo 3 isn't clear, and this is in no way a confirmation of anything.
Having a version of Sidewinder in the next update, it seems unlikely that there would be a second remake in the upcoming Legendary pack. However, xbox.com is listing the third Legendary map as a returning classic that is a small Slayer map, so this rumor may not be too far out-there. As for the supposed concept shot, it appears to be of a similar structure to the infamous grav lift platform of Lockout. Whether you liked the map or not, there does seem to be a certain amount of correlation between all this.
[Thanks, oriol]

Guardian is very similar to lockout. It doesn't make sense to me that they would remake it again.
Doom3killer @ Mar 21st 2008 9:42PM
it would be awsome!!!

"Guardian is very similar to lockout. It doesn't make sense to me that they would remake it again."
Guardian sucks compared to Lockout. I don't think the map is terrible, its a good map. But there aren't enough rifles. So the rifles are treated like power weapons. But Lockout was a better map even without that fact. More jump shortcuts, more points to jump to lower levels. It was just a better map.
Anyways, at this point Im 95% sure its going to be Lockout. Even before it was confirmed it was a remake, people speculated it was a Lockout remake. the descriptions they were giving matched it completely. This scan, and the confirmation Moonlight is a remake just confirms it in my mind.
I just hope they don't screw it up. Best Halo 2 slayer map IMO.

Does anyone know the name of this magazine. Would like to see some details.
StLouisRibs7734 @ Mar 21st 2008 9:57PM
Thats the grav lift area!
We'll see the "official" one on tuesday, though.

I'm really getting the feeling that this new map pack might be enough to get me back into Halo 3. I just wish I could get a refund on the last ones. :|
The only good pack from that was Foundry, IMHO, and that really makes me mad that I was enough of a sucker to pay $10 for one good map.
If they have Sidewinder and Lockout in the next ones, well... I might not be able to say no, even without knowing their quality.
Then again it still may not be enough to pull me away from CoD4 and ITS new maps...
RomeoDude @ Mar 21st 2008 10:18PM
It's very imminent... Moonlight Sonata is Lockout. I believe it was even described as 'littered with fusion cores' in a weekly update. Bungie would be crazy to not remake one of the greatest Halo maps in history.
Sev @ Mar 21st 2008 10:21PM
Moonlight Sonata reminds me Lockout in someway anyways :) I really hope this is true. Guardian is an O.K. map but Lockout is better in far to many ways.
Drago Dracini @ Mar 21st 2008 10:24PM
We all forget it could also be Beaver Creek. ;p
Sev @ Mar 21st 2008 10:36PM
@ Drago Dracini
It'd be interesting to see what a frostified Bever Creek would look like.
JakubK666 @ Mar 21st 2008 10:47PM
Remake Ascension! Also I believe they should be free too as I have no intention of paying for the same maps again.
fartymarty84 @ Mar 21st 2008 10:49PM
I would recommend downloading the Heroic map pack trailer that's in the update.. quite hilarious with some forging antics. I am stoked my patience paid off and I didn't pay for heroic, time to buy legendary though when it comes out!!!
webster1990 @ Mar 21st 2008 11:16PM
ivory tower, headlong, waterworks and colossus were my favourites, im wasn't a big fan of lockout, but i love guardian.
eatmoreramen @ Mar 21st 2008 11:51PM
I hate you damn people who complaing about paying for it, shut up you cheap bastards!
It's TEN DOLLARS! TEN.
How would you like it if you didn't get paid for the work you did!
I don't know about you, or if you even have a job.
But I make $10 in under an hour.
So for an HOUR of my time, I get ALL THE HOURS they worked on these maps.
Seriously, grow up the fuck up.
Don't like it-don't buy it.
It's not gonna be free.
This IS a business afterall.
idiots...

go check the xbox site, you guys bust me up, it says a Halo: CE map remake, holy god, Halo 1!
This is the stupidest shit i've ever read, people need to learn how to think, and not just bubble and foam random speculation, holy jesus.
Killswitch On @ Mar 22nd 2008 12:43AM
As siked as I am to see a remake or Lockout, I feel a little bummed for a few reasons.
One being that, with remakes, there lies a chance of coming up way short to the fun the original gave us. I loved Lockout. With remakes, I think the best bet is to leave the maps as intact as possible. Sure tweak a little for Halo 3 but if the map was stellar, as Lockout was, dont do too much and end up screwing it up. I wish they release the top 7 maps from previous Halos and leave them as original as possible.
Although I love the thought of classic maps for Halo 3, I think we should also get more NEW maps. So far, the true new maps Halo 3 came with, are mostly tame and just not that great over all. I realize they want to bring some attention back to Halo but why cant they do both. Release more classics, but also give us truly new maps. At least some that are better than the last batch, which in my opinion were just not fun to play on, Rats Nest/Foundry/Stand Off. They were okay at first but quickly grew old.
I think Bungie is losing their touch when it comes to great maps. I hope I am wrong and I wish we could look forward to more map releases than this twice a year standard crap. Same with the Fall and Spring updates for Live. Why not just release the updates as you finish them? Doesnt make sense to me to have to wait.
JakubK666 @ Mar 22nd 2008 12:43AM
@ 15
You know, some people don't feel like paying (regardless how much it is) for stuff that should've came on disc in first place.
eatmoreramen @ Mar 22nd 2008 1:37AM
No, it SHOULDN'T have come on the disc in the first place.
OTHERWISE, it would be on there already.
This is what they call "business" and "making a profit" and "marketing" and all that good stuff.
The more they put out over time, the more they increase the longevity of the game.
Also, not Bungie's choice; it's Microsoft's call. Hmm. Microsoft. Big corporation. What would you expect?
But seriously, if the game shipped with 30 maps, we probably still wouldn't have Halo 3. We'd probably still be waiting on it.
Think people, think.

I bet if they would have delayed halo for 4 -5 months, and released those maps in the game, then a couple months later released new DLC, you would be saying the same thing. Stop being a cheap ass its only 10 dollars, or you can FREAKEN WAIT UNTIL ITS FREE!!!
Austin @ Mar 22nd 2008 7:58AM
I agree the money is a necessary evil.
Killswitch On @ Mar 22nd 2008 10:40AM
@21
Im not being a cheap ass. Im not making a huge complaint about cost, except for the fact that Bungie themselves hinted at it not being their call on price. I believe the maps would be cheaper if it werent for MS greed.
My biggest complaint is the quality of the maps. Sorry, but the Heroic Map Pack turned out to be a lame waste of any amount of money. Foundry is cool when you can use Forge. Ive played a few great user created maps of Foundry, but Bungies version that will circulate in playlists is just not any good.
Stand Off has potential but still as Ive played on it many times now, is just not that fun of a map. As with Rats Nest as well.
The maps released with Halo 3, most werent all that great either. Most of the maps fail in comparison to Halo 2. Sometimes, I just cant put my finger on what exactly is wrong with most of the maps. Maybe its because Bungie limits what you can do and how you can play using them. You seem limited to where you go and how you get there. That wasnt the case with Halo 2, as players could find their own short cuts and what not, that Bungie didnt neccessarily intend on. But also, though I like some of the maps, most I veto with out hesitating because they just dont have that fun factor or great playability factor.
Bac0nator @ Mar 22nd 2008 12:59PM
mmmmmm halo.
dylan @ Mar 22nd 2008 3:02PM
10 bucks is way too much for three maps, especially for the most profitable video game in history, 5 bucks is fair I think. Free would actually suck because I play the last map pack all the time due to the fact that people on those maps tend to be much nicer, about a month before they had that grifball weekend I was on the new maps and we all partied up and played grifball for a few hours, it was super fun.
Hector @ Mar 22nd 2008 5:17PM
Mmm... we'll see on Tuesday
eatmoreramen @ Mar 23rd 2008 9:33AM
@dylan
So you think $3.33333333333(repeating) is too much money for a map?
A map that you'll play TONS of times?
So look at it this way, if you pay $3.33 per map, and play each map 10 times, it's like you're only paying $1 for all 3.
HELL, if you play them a 100 times each, it's like, 10cents for all of them!
Point of the story is: get a job.
Maybe then you'd understand what it's like to get PAID for the WORK that you did on something. Cause I know I don't work pro bono (look it up if you are too unintelligent to know what it means).
Wouldn't you be pissed if you didn't get paid for your work?
Bac0nator @ Mar 23rd 2008 3:07PM
@dylan.
GET MORE DAMN SUBSCRIBERS ON YOUR PAPER ROUTE!!!!!!! then you can afford the oh so expensive $10 map pack.
Dragod @ Mar 23rd 2008 10:27PM
I'm pretty sure it's Lockout... If we get Lockout, Midship, and Turf... I'd love Bungie even more than I already do. I'm sure it's Lockout, but if it isn't, it could turn out to be another great Lockout-feeling map. Guardian has many of the elements of Lockout, but it just doesn't feel like Lockout. New maps are always welcomed by me. Every map is always good for something.
I2aMpAnT @ Mar 24th 2008 9:51PM
However much that scan looks exactly like "Top Blue" from Lockout, it may very well be part of Avalanche :(
Araden64 @ Aug 31st 2008 5:45PM
That magazine cover is a fake, Frankie even said it was, the new map isnt lockout.
