Super duper exciting news for
Xbox Originals fanboys (if there are any out there), Microsoft just released
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey (GOTY edition, of course) to the XBLM, their first Xbox Originals addition since way back in
February. Funcom's
Dreamfall will join the other half dozen or so titles that are available on the Marketplace all costing a hefty 1200 Microsoft points and a solid chunk of your 360's hard drive. Anyway,
Dreamfall ... now released as an Xbox Original ... no achievements ... does anyone really care?

I doubt anybody would care even with achievements.
Because if DD Version could pull it off, what would stop DVD-version from having achievements.
therpham @ Mar 24th 2008 11:24AM
I don't remember this game even coming out in the first place. I've certainly never heard of it.
SugarDaddy @ Mar 24th 2008 11:28AM
Word. I never heard of it either. It looks pretty ghey, but it's always nice to add to the selection -- not that I buy xbox originals or anything.
Donovan @ Mar 24th 2008 11:32AM
I care. I love adventure games and I missed this one when it came out. $15 is actually the best deal out there ($20 for Steam version, $15+ used for Xbox) and I can download it right away and don't have to deal with old scratched discs and crusty manuals.
I'll be giving it a try.
JakubK666 @ Mar 24th 2008 11:33AM
I for once know it's a sequel to "The Longest Journey" a critically acclaimed adventure game(point&click ones none of this action Tomb Raider bs).
P&C's are dying though so I can't blame you guys for not knowing about it.
SuiXide @ Mar 24th 2008 11:33AM
Okay seriously, since when did games become all about getting the achievements? Last I checked, people played GAMES to have FUN. I'll end up picking it up because I want to have FUN and not worry about some gay achievements.
Knight Marquise @ Mar 24th 2008 11:44AM
As with Indigo Prophecy, I somehow missed this during the xbox tenure. Also, as with Indigo Prophecy, I'll be picking this up.
Achievements actually mean nothing if the gameplay is enjoyable.

why are you guys hating on the XBO's so much? Yeah, I admit that some of them, in fact most of them are overpriced, but I happen to like the convenience of just clicking "play" instead of having to fish out a disk.
And to top it off, you don't have to worry about the disk having been abused by it's previous owner. It's going to work (aside from the xbox/360 compatabilities issue but that's the same with the disc).
And the argument that the 360's failure rate makes the purchase a risk should be applied to EACH AND EVERY SINGLE ARCADE GAME ON THE XBLM. How many of those did you buy?
Yes, they SHOULD lower the prices, and achievements would be a killer bonus. It might take only a couple weeks to set up some achievements on XBO games, and MS SHOULD dedicate a team for it. Well, here's hoping..
Anyway, when is halo 2 gonna come to xbox originals? I'd be more than willing to plop down 15 to have it on hand at a moment's notice.
Project Ekim @ Mar 24th 2008 11:51AM
Even though the system they are building right now with xbox orginals does not seem all that practical at the moment it will be in a few years.
Ms does not expect to have 1000s of downloads on these games they want to build a place where people a few years from now when 500 gig hard drives are the standard, to just come and download old games that cant be found in stores anymore.
HazyCloud @ Mar 24th 2008 12:12PM
I don't get why X3F hates on the XO program so much. If it's the achievements, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
I'm an avid cheevo whore with 64k gs and it doesn't bother me one bit these game don't have achievements. Now if the game had cheevos and they were removed, I'd understand.
If you guys aren't fans of the Originals, please have a vaild reason. Stop trashing it just because you don't like it. I would be willing to bet a good chunk of your readers have downloaded at least one game.
Neuromancer @ Mar 24th 2008 12:12PM
I never played this game but I really liked the prequel, The Longest Journey. If I was to get any Xbox Original this one would definately be it, I was trying to find it used at stores and it's very hard to find.
ZEBRA NINER @ Mar 24th 2008 12:24PM
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Without the sweet cheevos I'm not going to buy these. I like boxes and discs and stuff to take up space on my shelves. I like buying these games new or used for $5. So, without the incentive of ch33vz I'm not buying them.
Now, with achievements... I would pay $15, because I love them that much.
Homer 918 @ Mar 24th 2008 12:27PM
Ok, ok we get it Dustin, you don't like Xbox Originals and you don't like adventure games. But let me get this straight: you posted a news article on Xbox 360 Fanboy and the proceeded to ask if people care??? Are you just trying to beat the this isn't news comments to the punch?
Loban @ Mar 24th 2008 12:37PM
Ummm, I care (not about achievement, they're useless to me) about this game. I've been wanting to play it for a long time. In fact, I had it installed on my computer for a while there but never got around to playing it. One question though, is it in HD? It was an xbox game, so is it in SD or what? If it's in SD, I'll just play it on my PC.
ccc @ Mar 24th 2008 12:42PM
While I am against the dashboardless, achievementless clunky working poorly compressed xbox live original program.
There are certain originals I would have to buy if they come like Kotor, Jedi Acadamy, Max Payne or the Warriors.
I am not only against the originals because they lack gamerscore but also because these should be xbox live arcade games down the road in a couple of years.
One day the Arcade will have games of this quality and depth when download size is increased.
Most likley they will also support gamerscore and all current console functions with redone hd graffics.
When this comes to pass the Xbox Orginal program be only be viewed as a failure and these games that were part of this program will most likley never see a proper xbox live arcade release.
Swagman @ Mar 24th 2008 12:55PM
#1 reason why it sucks going to blogs than getting ones news from a proper news channel: You can't ever seem to get the news without someone's asinine opinion bundled with it, as if the rest of the world really cared.
The XBO program is a nice addition to an already spectacular online service. And Dreamfall is a great addition to the roster. Not the best game in the world, or the best choice to make it to the XBO service (that probably would be Ubisoft's "Beyond Good and Evil"), but I played it on the original Xbox and it was a very entertaining little gem that I know most gamers missed the first time around. Like with other gems like Indigo Prophecy and Psychonauts, being on XBO is probably going to focus a lot of awareness on a game that deserved it.
As for all the XBO hate spewing from X3F . . . Whatever, that's their monkey.
The only problem I see with the XBO program worth complaining about is there not being enough games made available through the program. There should be at least one game a week released on the service. It's also a great platform to really shine the light on last-gen gems that were mostly overlooked by most gamers. Gems like the afore mentioned Beyond Good and Evil, Armed & Dangerous, Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, The Bard's Tale, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Set Radio Future, Otogi and so on.
Potato Farmer J. @ Mar 24th 2008 1:39PM
The XBOX Originals program fails because it's overpriced. How can anyone defend that? Convenience? That's stupid. You're paying extra for a minor convenience? You're openly happy with the idea that they're ripping you off easily, and willfully?
The POINT of DD is that it's supposed to cut out the middle man, and be cheaper. Not more expensive.
emirabal @ Mar 24th 2008 1:48PM
I saw this played through on gameplay hd and it kept me watching but i dont think i would play it, its fun just to watch it though
xenocidic @ Mar 24th 2008 2:06PM
have we already done an X3F poll about the XBO and whether people would buy them if they had cheevs?
Loban @ Mar 24th 2008 2:07PM
Am I the only one who doesn't give one flying crap about achievements? I can't seem to make myself care about them.
jkdoug @ Mar 24th 2008 2:19PM
Though I am a fan of any game with hot chicks, especially an RPG, I have zero interest in playing games from last generation. Even the most recent Xbox games look like crap on my 360 now, especially since I got the huge TV to really show off the horrible pixellation.
Time for me to have a yard sale and clear out the old stock, not buy new (old) crap!
Preston Crawford @ Mar 24th 2008 2:23PM
My biggest problem with XBox Originals is that I'm disconnected from Live when playing a BC game. And part of why I prefer the 360 and solely game on the 360 is because at any moment a friend could see me online (or visa versa) and we could jump into a game of Halo (Forge FTW), play some Burnout, play a game of Carcassonne, etc. If you're playing a BC game you're essentially offline and you lose this ability to spontaneously get a game together with friends.
ZEBRA NINER @ Mar 24th 2008 2:34PM
@ xeno,
That would be a good poll. I'm sure there probably was one... if not It's probably a good idea.
On a personal note, I didn't know you were a CUL 7 tough guy on xbox.com with all those pretty little icons and such.
xenocidic @ Mar 24th 2008 2:42PM
@zebra - there was a slightly related poll, but it also threw "HD and Live" into the mix. Since these are out of the question, I'd love to see what the response to *just* achievements is. ( recap in http://xbox.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/fanpoll-which-rock-band-instrument-for-you/ )
and yes, I am quite the forums.xbox.com addict. CUL 7 just came "unlocked" today, actually. =) and became an Xbox Ambassador back in Feb.
Lewis @ Mar 24th 2008 2:51PM
No cheevos, no buy
Viridium @ Mar 24th 2008 4:43PM
I care. If I didn't already have the Collector's Edition on PC and a retail copy of the Xbox 1 version of the game, I'd totally snap it up.
PrivateRyan @ Mar 25th 2008 7:16AM
I love this blog guys, it's my favourite Xbox 360 blog out there, but this bizarre hating on Xbox Originals needs to stop.
No, there aren't Xbox Originals 'fanboys' but that's missing the point entirely - this is about getting a chance to play a game you missed out on the first time around (Sid Meier's Pirates for me), maybe lost or have a scratched disc for, never completed originally or just like the look of. Regardless, more people getting a chance to play Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit, to give one example, isn't a bad thing.
And the 'no achievements, no point' argument is pretty narrow minded too. Frogger has achievements but if I had to choose between playing that or Ninja Gaiden Black...
