Community Content: Drivers Wanted Edition
We know, we fear change too but this week's video feature is so good that it deserves to get thrown up top. This week we bring you an F1 caliber race map that's so classy it only needs to be called RACE2 but after some in-house tweaks we've re-imagined the original map submitted by a loyal X3F soldier and renamed it to the X3F Speedway.
Deviously tight corners and strategically designed checkpoints lace a weaving variation of Sandtrap to make this one of the best constructed pure race maps online.
Including two gametypes, X3F Speedway can be enjoyed solo in X3F Solo-Ninja or in a two-person team rocket race in X3F Escort Rockets. Either way you slice it, it's pure fun. If this week's content were the weather we'd call for good times with a strong chance of awesomeness.

Tweaked Map/Gametype Creator: Snypz
X3F Speedway
Map: Sandtrap
Gametype: X3F Escort Rockets / X3F VIP Solo-Ninja
Player(s): Teams of 2 v 5 teams / Solo VIP v 9 other VIPs
Rounds: 1
Score to Win: 20 (2 laps)
VIP Damage: Invulnerable
X3F Escort Rockets Gametype
In X3F Team Rockets you and a friend must weave your way through the tightly constructed X3F Speedway attempting to fend off the competition with an infinite supply of rockets through two laps.
X3F VIP Solo-Ninja Gametype
In X3F Solo you the only challenge is your driving skill and the clock. Beat other challengers around the winding ridge until you cross the final finish line in two laps of sheer madness!
Note: Other vehicles are used to make the passageway and assassination is still possible, but every kill you make decreases your score by 1 point! You can still rocket foes into space, but don't go after them to break the game!

Originally conceived without any checkpoints, Sphinx454 designed this amazing map and offered it up for this week's content. We've gone in and tweaked the map only to add checkpoints. You can download the original version on Sphinx454's file share (File name: RACE2)
X3F Version

that video was terrible
Eric @ Mar 27th 2008 3:39PM
meh
I didn't really find it funny
Xav de Matos @ Mar 27th 2008 4:07PM
That's what we get for trying to entertain.
murph @ Mar 27th 2008 4:08PM
Anyone wanna play some Grifball tonight? Why oh why has Bungie forsaken us without a custom games search/browser??
Demolition Elmo @ Mar 27th 2008 4:10PM
*insert Gladiator "are you not entertained?" quote here*
Richard Mitchell @ Mar 27th 2008 4:13PM
This is where I dare people to make a better video if they think ours is so terrible. Seriously though, This is the third time we've made a machinima-style video, and given our inexperience I think it's pretty good.
Anywho, criticism absorbed.
Demolition Elmo @ Mar 27th 2008 4:26PM
Richard, i accept your challenge!!!!
seriously though, you guys are doing a great job. sure the camera is a bit dog ended at times an the head noding is out of sync but hey, i don't see any other site doing this sorta thing with community content.
Triforceowner @ Mar 27th 2008 4:30PM
I'm not writing to bash, but I think if the video had a bit of a better look at the actual content of the map, than I would not have minded the... not-up-to-Rooster-Teeth quality. Yes, we can't expect excellence the first dozen times, but please do have a bit more content like in the "Richard Overlord" (or whatever it was) map overview. After you show the content of the map, than make the bad jokes, because who doesn't like bad jokes.
HazyCloud @ Mar 27th 2008 4:31PM
I laughed out loud on a few parts. Good enough for me. Keep up the great work.
Xav de Matos @ Mar 27th 2008 4:34PM
We have a detailed breakdown in our image guide for everyone looking for the checkpoints.
We just tried this a certain way this time to see if it worked and some of it did and some didn't. We're trying to bring you entertaining content and we'll continue to do that.
Back to the actual content of the story, this map is AMAZING and we expect you all to send in your content asap!
HalfAzn @ Mar 27th 2008 4:37PM
Yeah good enough for me too. I think the post does a good job at actually describing the gametype/map so the video is a nice distraction from life.
Anyway, I think we should get a bunch of people together and play this beast. I ran it by myself and it seemed fun enough. I'll be on around 5pm Central Time.
GT: Halfaznguy; Send me a friend request/message and we'll get it going!
HalfAzn @ Mar 27th 2008 5:31PM
actually looks like I won't be on till around 7, but I'm still down if anyone wants to join me!
itsburnsie @ Mar 27th 2008 5:31PM
Reading the comments, it seems as though someone pressed the "go go internet hate machine" button or something.
In the words of Wil Wheaton, fellow fanboys, "Don't be a dick."
Oh, also, I like the videos, please keep them coming. I do think this one would have been better had it been slightly more informative, however. I think last weeks vid hit the perfect balance of quirkiness vs. informatativeness (real word?).
Just my two cents, thanks for the great stuff as always X3F!
ZEBRA NINER @ Mar 27th 2008 5:36PM
No speakers at work, sad times. I'm sure it's funny, is there somewhere I can download this?
Demolition Elmo @ Mar 27th 2008 5:45PM
@ ZEBRA NINER
try the podcast rss feed ;-)
shay07 @ Mar 27th 2008 5:53PM
hey if anyone wants to make a video i got a capture device send me a message if you got a sweet idea
Philip (Fernando Rocker Defence Force) @ Mar 27th 2008 6:07PM
I think the video was funny and you guys did a good job at making it. The only thing that would make it better would be if you showed off the map a little more. Other then that keep up the good work!
ZEBRA NINER @ Mar 27th 2008 6:10PM
@ Demolition Elmo
I wish the reply buttons worked. Thanks for the help, but I just don't see it in the RSS.
I'll just make up my own soundtrack and plot, which will probably just be a bunch of gay jokes and comments about Jessica Biel's rack.
Demolition Elmo @ Mar 27th 2008 6:20PM
@ ZEBRA NINER
yeah, me too.
give it an hour and it'll be up ;-)
Demolition Elmo @ Mar 27th 2008 6:21PM
correction, it's up now!
shay07 @ Mar 27th 2008 6:25PM
Murph i'm definately up for some griffball send me a message
shay07 = GT
Digital Limit @ Mar 27th 2008 7:00PM
Having issues playing the entire video for some reason. I got a little over half-way through, though, so I guess I could still voice my opinion:
I agree with a lot of the guys here that recommend you keep it more on the informative side with a pinch of bad jokes, rather than the other way around. This one verged toward the cringe zone, as it were.
c4v3man @ Mar 27th 2008 8:04PM
I didn't really get it either... just seemed kinda annoying. As far as the video's quality, it seemed well made. Just poorly scripted/written. I never actually got the point that it was a race map until I read the article.
ZEBRA NINER @ Mar 28th 2008 12:04AM
Thumbs up. Although, I didn't see any teabagging. Teabagging is the most important part of Halo and should be incorporated into everything that is Halo related.
jakubderon @ Mar 28th 2008 12:10AM
Hey guys! Sphinx454 here just stopping by to thank X3F for picking my RACE2 map as this week's community content. I hope you all try it out. The map is a blast to play with friends and there is much more to it than shown in the video. I'm also planning to build some custom maps with the free heroic maps. Drop me a friend invite or send me a message. See you on Xbox Live.
Homer 918 @ Mar 28th 2008 10:07AM
Are your microphones in your mouths when your talking? Other than that and I enjoyed the video...
Neuromancer @ Mar 28th 2008 10:09AM
@Zebra Niner
Right you are, also I couldn't help but notice a distinct lack Halo fan community verbage such as the N-word or the term "fag".
Richard Mitchell @ Mar 28th 2008 5:26PM
Homer, that's a comm radio effect. Supposed to sound like there's some static.
Lewis @ Mar 30th 2008 5:16AM
No, no. it's great. Just needs more emotion to it. Gotta think outside the boundaries and speak as if your talking to a group of people, instead of into a mic.
