Today, Ubisoft wanted to make it known that
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is a success, selling
2 million copies worldwide since its
release a few weeks back. And Ubisoft also wanted to make it known that those 2 million sales were a big surprise, even to them. So, with
RSV2's success and
Assassin's Creed doing
better than expected, the number crunching Ubi crew decided to increase their fiscal guidance for 2008. And that's a good thing. We love seeing everyone over at Ubi doing their happy-happy dance which they do exceptionally well when $1.5 billion in sales rains down from the gaming heavens.

I can't believe that! I bought this game on launch and I brought it home and thought it was awful. The only reason it sold that many copies is because people like me who loved rainbow 1 bought it. It was a big let down for me. I don't know about the rest of you. As a matter of fact I took my copy to Gamestop today and traded it in toward GTA 4 reserve. I say if you haven't bought it yet, Don't. Save the money and get the COD4 maps on the 3rd and buy GTA 4.
TungstenPlug @ Mar 31st 2008 3:44PM
PS. this should read, RSV2's worldwide sales climb to 2 million, 1.5 million go back.

2 million copies sold of Rainbow Six Vegas 1.5**
Guy4 @ Mar 31st 2008 3:51PM
Oh, and this is a terrible thing. This means that companies can slap a sequel sticker to their product and barely change it in any way.... and people will settle. Then they continue to do the same in the future, because it will sell won't it?
CJJB @ Mar 31st 2008 3:52PM
Was that sales across both the Ps3 and 360?
I would like this game sooo much better if they fixed the ridiculous amount of lag in the multiplayer.
Digitalspirit @ Mar 31st 2008 3:51PM
I agree with you TungstenPlug. The game sucks. I loved the first but this sequel is poor showing.
Intentless @ Mar 31st 2008 3:58PM
I loved the game. Thought the single player campaign was pretty good. On par with anything else and that much more enjoyable in co-op. And unless you have someone with a retarded connection you shouldn't experience any lag. If you enjoyed the multiplayer the first time around you should be able to enjoy it the second time.
BTW This is more new stuff and much more enjoyable than the ultimate rehash known as sports titles... madden always springs to mind...
xFenixKnightx @ Mar 31st 2008 4:02PM
Damn, that was fast.
TungstenPlug @ Mar 31st 2008 4:08PM
well yes I will say you only get lag unless your connection is crappy. As far as multiplayer goes, its the same old shit but crappy maps. I say everyone should take it back and put it towards your GTA 4 reserve. BTW I am not a hater Big Filth, I just know what I see and what I see is SHIT!!!
TurboJezus @ Mar 31st 2008 4:14PM
@ all haters of R6V2!
So since you loved the first R6V, and it's basically the same game formula as the first R6V but with new maps, more weapons, a sprint function, a new leveling system, and fixed glitches you hate it? I don't understand your logic.
TungstenPlug @ Mar 31st 2008 4:13PM
I hate to keep commenting but this game has me so fired up! What they really should have done is just sell the maps on XBL as DLC and not ahve made a sequel, but this way here they can slap together a shitty storyline like they did (cause no one knows what went on) and charge us $60 for it! I will probably relate this game to Rainbow Six Lockdown (AKA Letdown)!
ryan @ Mar 31st 2008 4:19PM
when i saw video of R6 Vegas 2 multiplayer, i immediatly thought: "counter-strike graphics?"
the environments have much to be desired...as well as the same ol "stack n clear" gameplay.
but, but SPRINT button!!...eh, no. not even that helps it.
sirpilf @ Mar 31st 2008 4:19PM
they hate the fact that ubisoft is trying to take us as a bunch of suckers by selling us the same game for $60 again. it should have just been an expansion pack or something.
Rodec @ Mar 31st 2008 4:29PM
TungstenPlug - WHAT! Sorry buddy can't even begin to agree with you. This is a GREAT GAME! It is a sequel (or prequel) in any case of course it is going to look and feel like the first one...
TurboJezus @ Mar 31st 2008 4:31PM
Oh, and another thing that is great about R6v2 is the fanbase. When I get online, I am not greeted by racist loudmouth 12 years who crave attention, but I am usually greeted by polite adults who are looking to have a good clean match. So, IMO, this was a good purchase.
You cannot get that with Halo 3, and you barely get that with COD 4 anymore.
P.S. I love the sprint button

This game was way too easy, my brother and I ran thru this on realistic and it presented no challenges to us. There were no parts we got stuck on or had to question our sanity for playing this game. I want a game to challenge me not allow me to walk thru the game in two days.
ZeitgeistXIII @ Mar 31st 2008 4:56PM
It was a bit of a let down certainly did not feel like a new game.
Bobicus @ Mar 31st 2008 4:58PM
i recommend that you play one match of cod4 put in r6v2 and see if you dont want your money back... i think what everyone is complaining about is the 60 dollar price tag and not so much that this is worst game ever (ao2) not worth more than 30-40 new
B Tizo @ Mar 31st 2008 5:06PM
My main problem I have with R6V2 is the ranked match options. They are unchangeable, pretty much, and there is no matchmaking. I do not understand why games continue to not include matchmaking. Seriously, the top 2 games on Live have matchmaking, yet devs continue to ignore this feature. Gears of War 2 NEEDS parties and matchmaking, but that's a discussion for another time.
However, I do enjoy the new maps and the Terrorist Hunts with friends. I think this game would sell even more if it was priced at $40, like it should have been. Simply not enough content for $60. Thank god for Gamefly.

@post #8
I was totally fine with R6V2 (I'm not the type to demand reinventing the wheel on an already good formula), and I hate where Madden is right now so no bias here, but if you think that R6V2 is any more updated than your typical Madden game over its predocessor then you are kidding yourself.
At least Madden will try to add things like cone-vision passing, defensive playmaker, hit stick, and new game modes on top of it. R6V2 is R6V1 with a sprint button.
Again, I'm fine with that (I'd pay 60 bucks for Gears 2 even if all it were were new maps and new campaign levels as well), but let's not make it out to be what it isn't.
Tal3n @ Mar 31st 2008 5:44PM
I don't understand all the Rainbox 6 Vegas 2, haters. This game is great. Although I was a fan of Vegas 1.
Comparing it to COD 4 is a little unfair, similar to comparing it to Gears of War or Halo 3. Completely different games. With just one common element, ie : "You shoot stuff ".
I have been playing this more often then COD4 lately, I like how quick some match modes can be, which is perfect when I don't have a lot of time.
I find it odd people seem to feel jilted by the lack of new stuff in the game, graphics a little better, gamelplay similiar expect with sprint. The odd thing is the game didn't make any promises to revolutionize. The Rainbow 6 series. All the previews stated it, so consumers should read up on products before sinking their money into it. I did my research was aware of what I was buying it, and am loving it.
nillaP @ Mar 31st 2008 5:47PM

xenocidic @ Mar 31st 2008 5:55PM
@benjamin,
of course it's easy in co-op. so is any game where the dead player can respawn next to the alive player, vita chamber style.
try it on your own.
JP @ Mar 31st 2008 6:06PM
It's better than RSV1, but if you have RSV1, then you're not missing much besides some enhancements. But a continuation is what RSV2 was marketed as---even the RSV1 story ended in a "to be continued..."
I'm satisfied because I never keep games that I purchase anyway, so my spread will likely be $20 to play this game. But I agree that it's not a good deal when compared to buying RSV1 for $24 used at Amazon.
Waiting for the game reviews is a good idea. (I read that COD4 is pretty good and am looking forward to buying a used copy when I'm done with RSV2.) Also, never be taken in by the media blitz put out by the marketing departments (e.g., Airborne).... wait for the double-blind studies.

well I didn't say I fucking hated the game. I said it wasn't worth the money. Its not the fact that you put in the game and are greeted by polite individuals. I actually got online and couldn't find a room where they weren't boosting, and when I asked "Why are you Boosting?" they said " so we can get rid of the Game." I owned R6V2 since launch, I beat Terrorist hunt in 3 hours, and the campaign in like 5. It wasn't a challenge. It was a joke. I beat them on realistic. I have 900 Achievement points and i got them all in 1 week!! Let me clear one thing up for TurboJezus. I do not hate those features. they just are rarley used and not needed in a tom clancy game. This game was a let down. It could have waited, but Ubisoft wanted to get it out before GTA4 and the COD4 maps. it is a total waste of money.
TungstenPlug @ Mar 31st 2008 6:31PM
This game never should have gotten good reviews. It was R6V1 with new Shitty ass maps. The maps were terrible and if you go to team deathmatch you'll see the only maps anyone plays are Killhouse and Steets!! Why? Cause they are classic, good rainbow maps! The other maps blow. CQB is alright, but not as good as killhouse. I am a huge Rainbow fan. I played Rainbow 1 for 1 year or until COD4 came out, so do not call me a hater. I just think you should care that you wasted $60 on shit.
chris @ Mar 31st 2008 11:44PM
pass the tissue box, that was a great game!!!
mAdAk @ Mar 31st 2008 10:24PM
This game is actually a huge improvement over the first one. Just fixing the pop'n'shoot was worth my $60. Multiplayer is actually competitve again. And the team leader game mode is a nice addition as well. I don't understand why people are bashing the maps, I think they are balanced and diverse.
I personally would rather play this than COD4 any day. I do wish that it had a party/matchmaking system though.
SovietSpartan @ Mar 31st 2008 10:30PM
@TungstenPlug
You've made your point, You don't like the game, the people you play with are boosting (achievement whores are everywhere). Get over it and stop replying to your own posts, its rather annoying when you say the same thing over and over again.
@ Potential Buyers
Terrorist Hunt is a great coop experience, there are a few new weapons and customizing your character is alot of fun. Naysayers may say its nothing more than Rainbow Six Vegas 1, but I don't think so. All my rl friends have this game and many a time we enjoyed great lulz when unexpected 6 hour RV62 marathons occurred. I don't experience the lag that people whine about, but again I make sure I'm not the host, my friend has fiber optic now so he usually hosts and its as smooth as butter.
I would say in terms of actual gameplay, both games are similar, in multiplayer the only difference I have noticed is that there are new maps, the fact that there is actually people playing and the sprint option opens up a few more strategies.
TungstenPlug @ Apr 1st 2008 12:00AM
SovietSpartan you're an idiot. Most people don't boost for that achievement. They play to get the elite symbol. Some people like myself do play for achievements, but I do not boost to get them. I am an achievment whore, but I don't think you see through the smoke. They are yanking your chain for your money and you're falling for it. All of you who don't agree can Suck Ubisoft's short little Dick!!
TurboJezus @ Apr 1st 2008 12:40AM
TungstenPlug nobody cares anymore. You think it sucks, we think it rocks, get the fuck over it. We will keep playing it because, despite what you say, we notice all the little improvements from the original R6V and we like it. We don't care if they didn't take the game in a completely new direction, we are happy that they stuck with same perfect formula that made the first game great.
SovietSpartan @ Apr 1st 2008 1:17AM
@ TungstenPlug
Please lay off the personal attacks, if you don't like the game thats fine. I didn't call you an idiot nor did I tell you to go suck a dick. Again everyone understands you dont like the game.
"Most people don't boost for that achievement." I didn't ever say any specific achievement, just achievements in general.
"They play to get the elite symbol." Isn't this a sign of an achievement?
"Some people like myself do play for achievements, but I do not boost to get them."
I never said you boosted... I agree with you that some people did boost most esp achievement whores.
"I am an achievment whore, but I don't think you see through the smoke." I haven't played online with you nor do i know your gamerscore. However, I'll keep it in mind to use my infrared goggles in order to see through the smoke next time.
"They are yanking your chain for your money and you're falling for it." No, I'm not in a gang or whatever and I don't have a chain. I'm one of those guys who if i enjoy a certain game it doesnt matter what it costs to play be it buying vista to play Shadowrun on my computer or busting out a grand to play Crysis. That's my decision to make and nothing you will say can change that.
"All of you who don't agree can Suck Ubisoft's short little Dick!!" We will once you stop riding on top of it.
C YOU 1N HELL @ Apr 1st 2008 4:30AM
Ok my peace on this game 1st off I bought it at Frys for $40 & I don't have R6V1 & I live in Vegas so I thought I should buy it I'll do R6V2 PROS & CONS.
PROS: The join in progress MP no more waiting in lobbys 4 1 game 2 finish so u get in nxt 1, Tons of guns none overpowered like m16 in COD4, No martyrdom, Lots of co op stuff, Everything lvls u up, Custom characters even face mapping, No kill cam, Realistic mode is not crazy hard its very fun, No unnormal lag, Thermal sights r cool, Tots of gadgets u can use, U can redo ur weapons in the middle of a battle, Co op stroy mode is very fun best of all FPS
CONS: Hardly any sexy vegas lookin levels or maps, Graphics r far from great, The aiming system needs 2 b revamped cuz using ur iron sights all most pointless ur crosshairs r a lil 2 accurate if ur standing still that is, All the maps only hav 2 spawns 1 4 u 1 4 them, If sum1 spawns in front of u ur shots wont kill them, I wish u could customize ur controls more, The story is stupid, Like all game sum glitches need 2 b fixed, On sum maps 1 teams spawn is noticeably better than the others
Over all I'd say its better than halo 3 and patches 2 the aiming system could put it on par wit COD4 fun wise but not graphic wise. The graphics & unVegas like levels r the worst part of the game. The fun is there & its a good game to give u a break 4rm COD4. I hope this list helps sum1 thinking of buying it. Its the best Ubisoft game out right now
TungstenPlug @ Apr 1st 2008 9:01PM

you should all take this game back and slit your wrists!! You are faggots. Keep playing this gay game and when GTA4 comes out I hope you poor mother fuckers dont have enough government money to buy it! So go to the dentist, get your dick out of your sisters pussy, and grow a pair!

It is surprising how many Xbox-version Rainbow Six maps are rehashed again, plus maps from RSV1. The Import/Export and Oil Refinery are original Xbox maps, Kill House is from RSV1, and the Presidio map was a refried refried bean of a map.
In fact, I have doubts any of the maps may be truly original.
