Oh, April Fools' Day. It is a day that will forever be riddled with falsities and lies. This is particularly true of the video game industry. Given how much fans obsess over every single news-byte and rumor -- we hear there are even entire websites devoted to it -- it's hard to blame all the publishers and developers for wanting to pull one over on their ardent followers. It's all in good fun after all. Enter the latest additions to the Xbox 360 Family: the Wireless Helmet, Xbox Live the Board Game, the Xbox 360 Recon Edition, and the Xbox 360 Vintage Edition. They are -- to save you the trouble -- fake. Of course, they are so obviously fake that it's really not a great April Fools' Day prank (unless you have particularly dense friends, in which case more power to you). Still, it's funny. So, check out the Inside Xbox video (embedded above) and don't forget to pre-order.
[Thanks to the many, many people that sent this in!]
I want an Xbox 360 Vintage =( You'd think they'd save the most ludicrous idea for last though, putting the helmet first I'm sure would have made even the most gullible become sceptical...
I saw this on Live this morning but was too tired to nitice what it was, then I got the email... If I were drinking milk it would have shot out of my nose! Microsoft have a sense of humour, shock horror! That vintage 360 is classic, I love the wooden controller!!!
man, when i saw this i hadn't turned on my computer yet, so when i saw these, i actually believed it, and no, im not a very dense person... they looked fake and wierd and then i remembered it was april fools, lol. that recon one was funny! lol
The sad thing is that none of these are really bad ideas!
A VR 3D helmet for total game immersion? - AWESOME, HELL YEAH! (and I agree it would get more use than my Xbox Live Vision camera which is in a desk drawer... and DOESN'T work with Windows Vista!?!)
Board game that earns points? - A) Point whores unite! B) And unlike my Wii, a board games is probably the ONLY way I could get my family and some of friends to play my 360 (on XBL for that matter), so MS might want to take note of that.
Xbox 360 "Recon Addition"? You mean a small, lightweight, rugged, battery powered, portable 360 that won't break if you turn it on its side (let alone attempt to take it to friends house) and doesn't require a massive power brick? * SIGN * ME * UP!!
Finally, a retro-cool design for this the pale tower that doesn't look good next to any of my other components? Hey, at least it would finally have some style! (what is the point of swappable faceplates if they ALL SUCK?)
Don't get me wrong, I love my 360, I just think MS should think "out of the box" more than just for April fools jokes.
You know what would had been like...really FUNNY?? Everyone who logged into Live would have their 360s immediately flash the 3 red lights, only for a few seconds, and then display a message saying April's Fool. I can only laugh imagining the faces of millions of people when this would happen!
I am not sure if this possible through software but i would like MS to try and pull it off. But of course, they won't. How could they laugh at themselves?
I showed this to two of my friends on xbox.com and they were really interested in it. Then I proceeded to show them the video on Inside Xbox, afterwards calling them idiots, noobs and tools; they totally fell for it.

All that just seemed like a strecth and forced. I'd believe the helmet would get more use than the LIVE Vision camera.

I maintain that the helmet would be pretty damn cool if it came in different sizes and wasnt too damn heavy...
