X3F Live: Halo 3 tonight and our new Social Gamertag for the X3F Army

Update: To clarify, tonight's match will be hosted by Xav using the Gamertag X3FLIVE. Look for that match at 8PM EST.
No need to adjust your vision loyal X3F soldiers. Tonight, in a rare non-achievement boosting event, X3F will host X3F Live. Tonight's event? An hour long romp in 2Fort Classic from this week's Community Content!
Tonight at 8PM EST join some of the crew in, what is sure to be an epic 8v8 match of multi flag carnage in Halo 3 using our user submitted downloadable content*!
But that's not all. While our friends lists have been filled to the brim we realized there may be very little interaction between the readers so we've magicked up a solution that's been around for a while.
Simply add the gamertag X3FLIVE to your Xbox 360 Friends List and you'll be able to see when other X3F readers are online using the "Friends of Friends" feature! Now, coordinate gaming sessions with your fellow X3F Army recruits any time you go online!
We'll open the game at 8PM EST and the first readers to join will be able to play a few rounds, and then we'll cycle a new game for a new batch of readers. That is if anyone can make it to our very short notice session at all!
*In order to play 2Fort Classic you are required to download the Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack, which is available on the Xbox Live Markeplace for free!

Going to be doing the new maps on COD4 tonight with another 1 million other fools, I wonder if Live is going to be pushed to the limits again tonight like in the holidays.

We have to assume a lot of our readers won't purchase the maps, hence the Halo 3 content on the new free maps.
Granteezy @ Apr 4th 2008 5:16PM

This is a good idea. I've been hoping for some more community stuff for a while. No boosting!? ZOMG! What about the sweet ch33v0z? !?! !?
Hahaha! So when can I expect a COD night?

Xav,
Your probably right, I typically dont pay for maps and stuff but from what I've been hearing from some buds its been insane trying to get the maps, slow downloads etc.. There will be quite a few that grabbed them.
I still havent dl'd the Halo maps.

I have been hosting 16 player Halo 3 partys every two weeks for some time now over at my site you can check it out.
http://unifiedsource.webs.com/gamenite.htm
I used the same idea with the friends of friends its really great however if you have never hosted a 16 player party in Halo 3 theres a few things you need to know. For Everything to run smoothly.
1.Make sure the gametype is soild, Quick respawns, 110 speed and a good starting weapon always keeps people into it yet they are subtle enough changes that it wont effect the map.
2.When 16 people are in a lobby loading a custom forge map and gametype they all are streaming alot of data from the host. The Gametype settings, item placements on maps, the name of the map descriptions stats and more. During this time if you click a new gametype or map it will take around 30 seconds to switch because its streaming to everyone in the large party. My advice out of experience to you is not to rapidly click the gametype/map over and over it just makes things worse. Just wait it out its a very short wait if you dont rush it.
3. LAG watch out for it 16 people on a small map never works all that well. I have done a number of tests over the months to get optimal performence out of 16 player partys on small maps and still i dont know the right combination. My advice is to start the game up on foundry default and Slayer and do a quick lag test if you see people having red bars try and locate the source and eliminate it.
4. Last and maybe the most important of them all especially for this type of Game Night, make sure the map is fun, well made, and works. Check things like starting points to see if there is 16 or see if there are enough respawns. Make sure that everything is set to spawn in because run times often die in 16 player partys. And just be sure sure that the map has been given good reviews and will be fun to play.
Well i have given my 2 cents or perhaps $2 but i hope you give this a look and keep this stuff in mind. I am going to download the map and gametype and test it myself and see if i can find anything that could prove to be bad.

Just trying to make things run smoothly its kinda hard to host a 16 player custom so im just making you aware. Anyhoo just checked out the map and it looks like it might play well and everything is great spawn wise however the map is very sloppy and there is no use of the interlock also the use of all 32 fusion and all 16 propane tanks may cause a fair amount of lag if everyone in that party does not have a high speed connection.
Neverless ill be there if i can get in.
