Wow, rumors spec and general vagueness doesn't last long these days as we already have an update to the
Alan Wake media blackout story we posted a few hours ago. Earlier, we reported that an
Alan Wake "Super Moderator" said that the information and media blackout would be ending sometime soon, and we took it as if he knew some insider stuff. Well, that isn't the case. ADM, the forum tech director,
jumped in to clear the air saying that the previous remarks are "not 'news' and we don't know when the media blackout is to end" and recommends to "be patient and when we do know something we will post it up at brightfalls.net or here. Don't read into comments too much." To be fair, Morry (the original news maker) did
clarify his previous remarks calling it an "innocent comment".
So, there you have it. Nobody really knows the exact time-frame for when Microsoft or Remedy will unveil
Alan Wake in all its glory. We have speculation, a few best guesses and in all reality, we should be getting some information soon if
Alan Wake is still on track for a 2008 release. Our guess is E3 and we don't need a forum mod's approval to say that.

"Soon" to some people varies. E3 2008 is soon when you look at the big picture, but it's not exactly anytime soon from now. E3 2008 is when we will truly see Alan Wake.

Well, at least Alone in the Dark hasn't been delayed.
Oh, wait....

WTF? How'd that triple post happen?!
Bac0nator @ Apr 7th 2008 2:33PM
We cant tell you how it happened, theres a media blackout...

I have a friend that bought the 360 for Two Games: GoW, and Alan Wake.
He's a wii-tard, so he's entertained, but I think if this comes out in 09, people will be super non-plussed.
Dick @ Apr 7th 2008 2:36PM
And that's what you guys get for posting ridiculousness as it happens, before it can be fleshed out as fact or fiction.
I was a victim of an Asshat Raping over XBL this weekend because of similar reactionary garbage.

And I know its confirmed for 08 release, but something tells me that the line "we don't know when the media blackout is to end...be patient and when we do know something we will post it up at brightfalls.net or here,"
means they have a pretty game and no concept of a good story... It's probably long, meandering (70 yrs or so), with a bad story (3 civil wars)... oh wait, that's biShock pre-redoing.
Sounds like Alan Wake is facing a similar fate.
Someone call Ken Levine, Quick!!!

I'd speculate the media blackout will end before the game ships... there.

I hope that the game has it's own flavor within the genre to separate itself STRONGLY from the others, and in a positive way. Hell, it's been in the works for years; i'd hope that in that time the development team has mustered together something brilliant that's worth the wait.
BUT...then again, I was hoping the same thing for Dark Sector, and that game blew balls when you see it through the long development-timespan prism. After all this time, it's a broken copy of Gears of War. LeSigh.
john paul @ Apr 7th 2008 4:22PM
Actually its not that bad of a game, its just that it has a sucky backstory and it can't really distinguish itself apart from gears. So just try it out.
Magic Whiskey @ Apr 7th 2008 4:27PM
I did try Dark Sector..which is why I said it sucked. :)
john paul @ Apr 7th 2008 5:03PM
lol
hey i tried :)
The only problem for me was it was too generic

Maybe some of you fanboys can enlighten me, but why is everyone excited about Alan Wake again? I think I've seen two screen shots and read a half dozen stories that say "While we have no idea what this game is or how it plays, we're told it is going to be amazing!"
Example: "Nobody really knows the exact time-frame for when Microsoft or Remedy will unveil Alan Wake in all its glory."
I'm just curious as to why everyone's hyped about a game they essentially know nothing about (one person even going so far as to buy the console for said game [see Dick's comment]).
