"Amazon.com Special Offer: $50 Off a Future Purchase
Dear Amazon.com Customer,
As someone who purchased an HD DVD player from us before February 23, 2008,* you might like to hear about a special offer available from Amazon.com.
New technologies don't always work out as planned. We at Amazon.com value our customer relationships more than anything and would like to support customers who purchased these players by offering a credit good for $50 off any products sold by Amazon.com.** Just use promotional code XXXXXXXXXX when checking out. The code is valid through April 9, 2009, so you have plenty of time to use your credit. Purchases from third-party merchants on our site are not eligible.
...
**Offer cannot be used to pay for special-order titles, e-books or downloadable e-content, wireless service plans, gift certificates, gift-wrap, taxes, or shipping and handling charges. $50.00 promotional credit is per HD DVD player purchased prior to February 23, 2008--up to 10 units for a maximum credit of $500.00."

Why haven't I gotten one of these? I bought an HD-DVD player (the Xbox attachment) from Amazon back in October.

I bought mine back in Nov 2006 from Amazon and when I went over my order history on their website the order has mysteriously disappeared even though I still have the confirmation e-mail (thank you g-mail). I better get one of these offers!

Well just be glad you all live in the land of the free, here in the UK there's been nothing like this, only good thing is several £5 HD-DVD films from some retailers.
Raheem @ Apr 9th 2008 2:30PM
Intya, the land of the free? So did someone strap you down and forcefeed you your HD-DVD player? You don't like this country? Bugger off.
Jeramy @ Apr 9th 2008 2:49PM
uh, the us touts itself as the land of the free, as hypocritical as that may be. idk, i would have figured most people familiar with this expression myself
Matt @ Apr 9th 2008 8:52PM
He's saying no one in the UK was forced to buy the HD player, just as the same everywhere else.
Xiwei @ Apr 9th 2008 2:49PM

I found my old order number for my X-Box HD-DVD and emailed their customer service along with a copy of the email from this story to ask about it.

I actually had just marked it as read and did not even read it. That was until I read this. Went back and tada. Ill never get rid of my drive. I like using it to just play dvds so I dont have to take my game out.

WoW... Wonder if GameStop will ever step up to the plate and make an offer too. Figures, this is the ONE piece of hardware that I purchased from GS, and now I'm screwed.
Rod Martin @ Apr 9th 2008 9:02PM
I didn't receive it either and I bought mine in December. Not sure what their criteria is.
ccampbell2 @ Apr 9th 2008 9:17PM
I emailed Amazon too. They responded that I am eligible for the promotion and will receive my email April 9 or 10. If you haven't received your email yet, don't lose hope.

I got my email yesterday. I purchased one for myself in Nov06 and one for my brother in Nov07.
$100 free. sweet. it's weird that if you don't use the whole amount the balance doesn't show up in your account as GC credit remaining, but if you check out with more stuff it is automatically applied to your purchase.
MrTrousers @ Apr 11th 2008 9:41PM
I also bought a player in Nov 07 and emailed Amazon to asked if I was eligible. They replied within an hour and said I was and included my $50 promo code. Nice. So if you havnt heard, just message them.
