Joystiq Network Poll: Which Platform for GTA IV?

There's a game coming out at the end of this month which our insider sources tell us is a big deal. In case you haven't heard, it's called Grand Theft Auto IV. On April 29 GTA IV hits retail for both the Xbox 360 and PS3, and we're curious to see which console Joystiq Network readers will choose -- so we thought we'd ask you! The following poll will run on Joystiq, PS3 Fanboy and Xbox 360 Fanboy, but you can only vote once. Will it be the exclusive DLC for the Xbox 360 or the free multiplayer on the PS3 that will sway your purchase? Let us know. Voting will end this Sunday, at noon.

Vote for PS3.
PS3 is clearly better console for GTA IV.

GTAIV - The ONLY Version is the Xbox 360 Version

I have the LE edition, for myself, and a standard edition pre-ordered for 2 reasons:
1. It launches on Xbox360, a console I already own
2. DLC
All things being equal, had there been no DLC, I would have purchased a console for this game. If I were in a purchasing position, I would choose the platform with more to offer, and DLC would have then weighed into my decision.
Exclusives do move consoles, at this point FF will prompt me to purchase a PS3. Were that game to show up on the Xbox 360 (and I don't expect it) it would save me a console purchase.
GTA is, in my opinion, a console mover. It will be interesting to see if the DLC for the 360 has people choosing that version rather then the PS3 version.
Gamerwillz @ Apr 10th 2008 12:13PM
I prefer the PS3 because it runs better, better controller, better online and my friends got PS3s.
LesbianHam @ Apr 10th 2008 12:33PM
It runs better?? That's a lie.
Better controller?? The 360 has the best controller so far of all games consoles, hands down.
better online?? that's bs, no unified friends system.
Your friends having ps3s is the only valid point i see there.
Homer 918 @ Apr 10th 2008 12:34PM
Better online? Runs better?
The Xbox 360 has unquestionably the better online service and it gets online DLC. Also I have not read a single report that says the game runs better on the PS3 although I have read a couple minor comments that say the opposite.
ChodalBerryWagon @ Apr 11th 2008 2:59AM
I don't understand why Xbox360s online is 'so much better than ps3s'.
PS3 online is free. And you can still play online. What more do you want?
Chappy @ Apr 10th 2008 12:14PM
Strange at it may seem, it's the ability to obtain achievements on one platform and not the other that makes the decision for me (360). Not so much for the score itself, but the ability to share with friends our progress in the game.
We'll see what trophies do for the PS3 once Home is released, but I doubt it will be enough to sway everyone on my friends list to Sony's platform. Until that's the case, Microsoft wins the cross-platform battle for me.
Lazmoe @ Apr 10th 2008 12:18PM
Both ;)
Gaz @ Apr 10th 2008 12:20PM
what do they mean by free multiplayer on ps3????
D Boy Flex @ Apr 10th 2008 12:31PM
PSN is a free service to all. To play GTA 360 online, you must pay for gold subscription. That is likely what they mean. For me, I say 360 cause it is what I have. Do I hate ps3? No. I just don't have the cash for both and the 360s online play appealed to me more than ps3. Most of my friends have a 360.
ZEBRA NINER @ Apr 10th 2008 12:19PM
Oh sweet cheevos! You can say what you want about frame rates, and superiority of one machine over the other... but it's all about the cheevos!
TORO @ Apr 10th 2008 2:43PM
whore!!! haha

ZEBRA NINER @ Apr 11th 2008 11:05AM
Slut? OOOOhhhh, cheevo? Yeah, I should be spelling it with 3's... thanks.
ch33v0z!
Gukklemaster @ Apr 10th 2008 12:24PM
Well 360 of cource. Better controller, DLC, more friends online and frikkin' achievements. :)
Paul @ Apr 10th 2008 12:29PM
Free multiplayer because you are paying for Xbox live. It's a moot point, I don't know many 360 owners who don't have a subscription. Xbox 360 wins for me because achievements and the fact that I only know a few people who will be playing this on PS3.
Fox318 @ Apr 10th 2008 12:35PM
This isn't even close. The 360 is the better version to buy.
Although I really wish they released a PC version as well. Then again my PC sucks right now.
Josh @ Apr 10th 2008 12:36PM
Why would anyone who has both a 360 and PS3 buy the PS3 version? Rockstar has said numerous times that both are identical except the 360 version has extra DLC.
Gamerwillz @ Apr 10th 2008 12:47PM
Because PS3 is real console.
PacoDG @ Apr 10th 2008 12:56PM
Gamerwillz, you better talk to Sony about that:

TehAdz @ Apr 10th 2008 1:29PM
The sony fanboys make me laugh, Why are they here?
X360 for me, obviously.
360 fanboyism should be made into a religion. We hold good ol' fashioned PS3 Fanboy hunts, ending with them being burnt at the stake.
JAKEJAX @ Apr 10th 2008 1:44PM
It is actually Xav under a different name. Good try Xav. ha ha
Xav de Matos @ Apr 10th 2008 8:05PM
Wha? I'm the PS3 Fanboy or this dude? I don't get what you mean Jake.
dancingtosirens @ Apr 10th 2008 1:54PM
This seems like a rather biased question for a 360 website...
Regardless, If I do buy it, it will probably be for PS3.
Why?
I don't know. Preferences I guess.
Knight Marquise @ Apr 10th 2008 2:24PM
Did you post your sentiments on PS3 Fanboy as well? The joystiq crew is running this poll.
What a shocker, I just checked and you didn't.
Vcize @ Apr 10th 2008 2:18PM
I have both consoles, so let's see here...
360 Pros:
-Live for multiplayer.
-I prefer to be signed onto Live whenever possible so I can get invites to other games, etc.
-Many multiplatform releases have been botched on the PS3 side of things (games like Orange Box, R6V2) with the idea that they'll be fixed with a patch later. I'm not running the risk of having to wait an extra 3 weeks for the game to be playable.
-DLC...even if you don't think you'll want it now it's nice to know that it's there if you change your mind. Rumors are it may include extra co-op missions, which is big since apparently there are only 5 shipping with the game.
-Achievements
-Superior controller for shooters
-I believe the 360 was the lead platform (can someone confirm/deny this?)
PS3 Pros:
-No fear of being out of the game for 3 weeks with RROD
-Quieter console
To me, this was just about the easiest choice I've ever had to make. I'll be getting the 360 version without a doubt.
The only reason I could see someone that owns both consoles getting the PS3 version is if they're deathly afraid of the RROD, but to me that's basically balanced out by the fears of a botched PS3 release where the online doesn't work for weeks like we've seen before, especially if I'm right in remembering that GTA4 falls into that same "developed for the 360 and ported to the PS3" category. Weren't there rumors that they were already having trouble with the PS3 version and that was one of the reasons for the delays? Besides, I have two of each console so hardware failures aren't really an issue for me.
Deck @ Apr 10th 2008 4:14PM
360 version. Duh!
JHTM @ Apr 10th 2008 4:20PM
x360 due to achievements and DLC - DLC has to be the winning factor, if your obsessed with GTA like me why WOULDNT u want DLC ??? answer - if its only clothes :)
the best version will be the PC version which'll get released in Oct time, PC has always been the better version since you can rip out all the cars, models, scm scripts etc and build new missions, real cars, guns clothes etc. I personally have created hundreds of cars for GTA SA and VC and have pulled em directly out of games like NFS Carbon, Prostreet, MW etc
PC rules imo HOWEVER since i own a x360 and cant wait to play it - X360 rules :-P
emirabal @ Apr 10th 2008 4:27PM
CHEEVOS CHEEVOS CHEEVOS
Nintendo is fail @ Apr 10th 2008 5:48PM
It's kind of funny having the poll on this website since we already know what the obvious choice is going to be. But I have to join the majority and say the 360 version is my choice obviously because I don't have a PS3 and I look forward to playing this online with all my friends who only have 360s also.
Xav de Matos @ Apr 10th 2008 8:06PM
This is a Joystiq wide poll that is up on PS3 Fanboy and Joystiq as well.
That's why!
Gemini Ace @ Apr 10th 2008 5:50PM
Where's the "neither" option?
I'm not supporting Rockstar no matter what platform it is.
Nintendo is fail @ Apr 10th 2008 7:04PM
Loser
OTAM @ Apr 10th 2008 6:21PM
I'm getting it on my PS3. My 360 has RROD twice already,so i'm not building a library of games that will only look fancy on the shelf while my unit is at the repair center. I've already bought Rock Band on my PS3 and GTA4 will be the same.
Quality hardware control Microsoft, not get the product out the door before all competitors. I'm going to wait at least a year in next console cycle before buying the next Xbox to see what problems rear their heads.
agelgamer @ Apr 10th 2008 8:21PM
wow... there are obviously more 360fanboys :) w00t! ftw!
PS3 owners should go out and buy a $50 DualShock3 to get rumble like the other next-gen consoles. bwahahahahaha!
Rumble not next gen my ass. How about just admit that you couldn't include it in the controller because you were in a lawsuit with the patent holder? SONY you suck. At least MS ponied up $1billion to cover repairing the RROD. The least you could do is have a recall on everyone's SIXAXIS.
UltraZLS1 @ Apr 11th 2008 3:32PM
time and time again it has been stated. The only time the 360 controller is USUALLY preferred is for FPS games. This is not an FPS. Either way whatever...Im hooked to the ps3 style controller cuz I grew up on it.
But I have to say if I had both consoles I would get it for the 360 because of the extra content....good for you guys :)
Marrvia @ Apr 11th 2008 12:59AM
I have both consoles, and I am unbiased in this.
If I had a choice I actually would get it for PS3 for a number of reasons. First of all, I have about 30 Xbox 360 games, and I've had PS3 since launch and only have 2 PS3 games. And the loud disc spinning noises on Xbox 360 really bother me lately, and PS3 is silent. Also, I don't really care about achievements anymore, and I don't care about the DLC at the moment either.
The reason I am getting the game for 360 is because I preordered the game over a year ago at Lion Games for $42 on 360, which was obviously a great deal, and I don't really care that much about the difference to turn about and now spend $60 of the PS3 version.
