Community Content: Painted Into a Corner Edition

This week brings us paintballin' action so sweet even Greg Hastings is sure to pop in his copy of Halo 3. This one shot, one kill variant, coupled with the Foundry based map make it as stressful and enjoyable as actually being beaned in the head with a paint pellet without all the fuss of running around and actually getting beaned in the head with a paint pellet.
It's pretty much a win-win situation if you ask us!

Delta Paintball
Map: Foundry (Heroic Map Pack Required)
Variant: Paintball
Gametype: Team Slayer
Score: Unlimited
Rounds: 5
Time: 15 minutes
Details from the Creator
It's an arena Paintball field with bunkers, and it's all caged in. The game type is 5 rounds with instant death, plasma pistols, and a little faster running.
The time limit set at 15 is a little high, so we'd tweak it down to 5, 5 minute rounds for a solid romp in this amazingly designed map. Otherwise, we'd recommend a no time limit match with a score max of 100 kills to see who can get those one hits to matter most in the time limit!
Expect to see this one in our X3F LIVE rotation soon!

Map: Delta Paintball
Variant: Paintball

awesome map
Anticrawl @ Apr 12th 2008 10:44AM
There is no way you could make a "paintball" type map in Halo 3. I'm not sure how you guys or this guy plays but one needs to be able to cover, slide, crouch run, climb, sprint, adjust aim because of wind/bad paint/ball arc, and go prone (if you're in the snake). Then you can't even remove your barrel to tag people when you run out of paint (ammo). Plus the gametype would need to be a one shot one frag type of game with 3, 5 or 7 man teams. Plus with online shooters and video games in general there is no emphasis on shooting lines or any sort of strategy.
Perhaps I'm being overly critical but I do play the sport competitively and make a good chunk of cash that way.
Anticrawl @ Apr 12th 2008 10:46AM
Oh and by one shot one frag I really ment to say the game would have to be in rounds with one life. No respawns or anything, and of course instant death (as I see you put). Just doesn't seem a gametype that is suited for Halo.
n0thx1ng@gmail.com @ Apr 12th 2008 4:09PM
lol I've been playing X-Ball for 3 years, plus 4 years recreational. I've NEVER seen anyone remove their barrel to tag someone out. Nonetheless, the only time you can even tag someone out is in rec-ball.
Don't knock the gamemode and level if you don't even know the rules of paintball. Anyways, this isn't a full game conversion, it's just a gametype. I actually find it pretty fun to play.
Anticrawl @ Apr 12th 2008 6:04PM
We were playing the Rocket Kids at the PSP in the finals and I got caught behind the center bunker and it just so happened my gorilla reg on my shocker started to leak so I unscrewed my barrel and dove forward when their front man tried to bunker me for the win and tagged his ass out. The guy was so shocked, he didn't know what to think.
Team LSU for the win!
Anticrawl @ Apr 12th 2008 6:07PM
Actually buddy, the majority of the tournaments we travel to allow barrel tagging. It just isn't usually covered in the rule books or when you are entering and you get a list. You ask the refs though and they'll tell you it's allowed. It is so arcane though and such a rarity that people never mention or see it happen.
Anticrawl @ Apr 12th 2008 6:16PM
Also you speak as if there is one unified rule-set for paintball. Every tournament/host is different. Some of the big host organizations have a specific rule-set that is the same for each hosted tournament though such as the NPPL.
bonzai @ Apr 11th 2008 9:23PM
you'd think this was halo3fanboy.com
How bout more coverage of the top played game on Live?
rTwelve @ Apr 11th 2008 9:26PM
Sure, when it gets customization engine as intricate as Forge.
Xav de Matos @ Apr 11th 2008 9:28PM
This is a weekly feature we do every week.
BTW, we did an exclusive video in COD4 last week:
http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/x3f-tv-call-of-duty-4-variety-map-pack-video-tour/
Research then complain. In that order :)
bonzai @ Apr 11th 2008 9:32PM
While i appreciate that review, you can clearly say i said MORE coverage.
Read first, then complain.
Theres 10 halo posts for every CoD one. But from the podcasts i understand all the bloggers are Halo players and not so much CoD players so that explains it.
Xav de Matos @ Apr 11th 2008 9:41PM
Obviously you're a reader so I wonder why you would complain about that during out weekly feature that has been happening for over 10 weeks.
Digital Limit @ Apr 11th 2008 10:30PM
What content could be done with COD4, anyway? There's really not much to report on, I'd imagine.
Nevertheless, decent video.
I feel like something's missing, like gameplay. The gametype sounds fun, but it's hard to gauge when we can't see you playing it...
Maybe you should post times you want to create the community content, and us fanboys can participate in community matches for footage, or something, if you have trouble filling a room.
Just a thought, anyway.
CB @ Apr 11th 2008 10:42PM
bonzai, look for the link "Send us news tips". Don't have anything? Stop complaining like a kid.
Rumble @ Apr 11th 2008 10:40PM
People just can never be satisfied...
I play CoD very regularly and have only re-popped in the Halo disc to play the SWAT and Grifball playlists of the past few weeks. I've always liked custom Halo matches, and this looks enjoyable as well.
Lewis @ Apr 11th 2008 10:52PM
When is the next X3F live match? :/ I don't have halo 3 this weekend :(
Dave @ Apr 11th 2008 11:07PM
The teabagging video at the beginning was priceless. I was nearly rolling on the floor!
crock @ Apr 11th 2008 11:41PM
Hey Guys another great video. Keep up the great work. Cod 4 is the most popular game on live in America. Halo 3 is the most popular live game when you take into account every region were it is available. I'm definitely queuing this one up for download.
decapit8 @ Apr 12th 2008 2:30AM
not a fan of halo... i am a fan of cod4. i mostly play halo to play rocket race, and just single people out that seem like assholes in pre-game, then chase them down all round and kill them...
BUT i agree that there is more halo content, but its completely justified.
there is absolutely no new content for COD4 that xbox360fanboy could be reporting on, the only thing i could think of would be showing how to get to all the "glitch" spots in all the maps... but only huge noobs dont know how to get to those, and they dont deserve to know.
...ending drunken rant.... now.
Lametastic @ Apr 12th 2008 5:29AM
looks interesting; glad to see you guys are still playing Halo 3

Too bad Bungie just cant surprise us and release the maps early
mike @ Apr 12th 2008 9:18AM
so how much longer untilll the maps are out, 5 months?
No point in buying them until they are free as they are not added to the matchmaking. If they where added to big team battle I would buy them for sure.
rTwelve @ Apr 13th 2008 2:17AM
from Bungie's update on 4/11:
http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=13519
"With the release of the Legendary Map Pack next week, a lot of players are going to be hoping to get their matchmaking on with their three new maps. For April, the best way to do this will be using DLC category playlists, which focus almost entirely on the Legendary map pack, with some heroic maps sprinkled in for good measure. The maps will also be integrated into regular matchmaking. However, as people discovered with the Heroic map pack, matchmaking into DLC maps when the maps are optional is very rare. The reason for this is that Halo queries users to see if everyone has the map pack after they’ve been matched, rather than before. There’s no easy fix for this, I’m afraid, though we’re looking at the best way to remedy it. In the meanwhile, we don’t want people downloading the Legendary map pack to feel alienated. As such, Team SWAT will be Legendary required, as will weekend hoppers (save Grifball). Legendary will be integrated into standard matchmaking as well, but will not be a requirement."
as far as the free thing:
"For those of you who are still on the fence… please be aware that as we've previously stated, we are not currently aware of any plans to make these maps available for free."
LesbianHam @ Apr 12th 2008 9:58AM
Is it just me or is the viddler player fucking awesome? Best player I've ever seen.
And what's this about X3F matches? Can I play? :D
bigmac375 @ Apr 12th 2008 10:38AM

First, Richard you are a god. Second, it seems the X3FLIVE gamertag is full... :(. Could we have another for those looking for these awesome custom games?
emubilly @ Apr 13th 2008 10:42AM
Whats the name of the song at the end of the video?
Xav de Matos @ Apr 13th 2008 11:04AM
The song in this video is called "Shade" by Portugal The Man
Prox @ Apr 13th 2008 9:28PM
I'm just not into these 'Community Content' videos. I'd much rather see video entirely of relevant info as opposed to 1:15 of "teabagging" followed by 57 seconds of the alleged 'subject of the video'.
Xav de Matos @ Apr 13th 2008 9:49PM
Good thing for fast forwarding then.
