GTAIV poll results: 360 achieves the win

Last week, we ran a network-wide poll in conjunction with Joystiq and PS3 Fanboy asking readers which version of Grand Theft Auto IV they planned on purchasing. The results are in and the Xbox 360 finished ahead by a healthy margin. The overall tally had the Xbox 360 version with 22,195 votes (58%) and the PS3 version with 16,221 votes (42%) making for 38,416 votes total. The reasons cited by those who voted for the 360 include, unsurprisingly, achievements, downloadable content, and having more friends on Xbox Live.

Thats only a small sample of people buying this game... Just think, Halo 3 was the biggest selling game of all time... This game is on both systems, so i think GTA will poo all over Halo 3 on the first day... hands down!!

I went to Joystiq and they mentioned in *their* writeup that it was on the ps3 site also.

indeed. if you look at the matching posts at both Joystiq and PS3Fanboy, the numbers/percentages are same.

to be honest, the ratio was a lot closer than i thought it'd be.

Honestly I can't think anyone with both consoles would want it for the PS3. I have both and I want the DLC episodes and the in-game messaging/private-chat feature.

Wow, seems the DLC isnt such a big seller as people thought! 42% for a version that *at the moment* doesnt have any of those things isnt that bad at all. Especially since theres more 360's out there than Dick Cheney can shoot at!

There literally is no reason to buy the ps3 version over the 360 one unless:

A - you're an idiot or
B - you only own a ps3 and don't have a 360

tbh you would expect for the ratio to be a bit bigger after all there are more 360 owners.

Also the achive thing @ itsburnsie won't be like that forever afterall home comes out in a few weeks ;).

I am surprised by the results, I thought the gap between the 360 and PS3 would be much larger.

Come on, its a no brainer, a lot more own the 360 than PS3, it has acheivements, exclusive DLC, I'm betting custom soundtracks. A lot of people on Joystiq LOATHE the PS3.

Sadly, I think the PS3 got the relatively high count because many want to get it for that system instead of 360 just because of the 360's RROD problem. You have to admit the PS3 is built better. I will admit the PS3's problems as well.

Its unfortunate that we PS3 owners have to get many inferior multiplatform titles.

I own neither console but am thinking of a PS3 to buy next month but then the 360 is also tempting. Its a tough decision.

I think GTA4 will be an amazing game but I would love to have the extras on the PS3 version.

your right about the rrod comment. The general public does not take that as an issue like all the retards who post online do. I garuntee the 360 version will far outsell the ps3 in retail, around 70%-30% or better.

I think this is biased towards hard-core gamers. The retail "casual" sales will be skewed heavily toward the 360.

For the hardcore gamers the choice is obvious.

If you are a casual gamer purchasing a console for GTA PS3 does offer more value.

Also casual gamers seem to associate GTA with PlayStation.

I don't think anybody's that stupid. Although it could make sense since GTA 3 was the best game on the PS2. But unless they've been under a rock for 7 years ever since GTA 3 came out then they would've figured out that it also came out on the PC and Xbox too. I originally had GTA 3 for the PS2 but then I found out the PC version was much, much more superior (better graphics, controls, mods)

and i think it's a hard decision, but here in europe more friends have lately bought the ps3, so for multiplayer i will chose the ps3 version over the 360 version.

you have to think that a lot of people only played GTA games on playstation consoles.. so they associate it with the ps3...
I guess Microsoft didnt get the word out enough.
Im getting the 360 version, its my only console, but I would also get the 360 one if I had both systems.
I think that poll also includes people who WILL get a console when this game hits shelves.
Remember how many games gta3, ViceCity and SanAndreas sold... all those people who loved theses games dont ALL have next-gen systems.
And I guess that someone who has a PSP (for Liberty City Stories and ViceCityStories) would be more attracted to a PS3 than an Xbox360 because they can have more features with the 2 "consoles" combined (even if its not for that game)
I think Microsoft's Xbox brand is hurting from the absence of a handheld system... if they had something that was between the DS and PSP they could build a bigger audience for their IPs and "grow" their Xbox brand.....

I dont think the Zune XNA gaming(which Im kinda excited about) will cut it for hardcore and midcore gamers... just casual "music and a little gaming" people.

You would think with DLC and more consoles the 360 should easily have a 75/25 split... but it doesn't haha.... I hope when the game comes out that its split 50/50 sold on each console... that will go to show microsoft and every other company that Exclusive DLC to one system isn't worth it.
Yes I have an xbox 360 and I also have a ps3... Im still debating about which version to buy but am leaning towards the 360 cause the friends I have on there. maybe I will get it for the ps3 so I can make more friends :-)

i bought the 360 in the first place as more of my friends have one, so i can play with my friends online. i only know about 3-5 ppl with PS3s compared to about 30+ people with 360s. Yet the friends with PS3s feel the need to tell us how superior there george forman grill look-a-like blu-ray players ( ;) ) are.

Plus, i know that achievements are simply a form of marketing really, but i still feel the need to try and get lots of them. I feel like i have wasted time when i play my step-bros PS3, or my friends Wii, but even if i just get 5G on my 360 i feel as though it was time well spent, damn MS! hahaha

im going to get the ps3 version because i still dont own a ufcking game for it. also, i never spend money on dlc. i havent purchased any episodes for oblivion, mass effect, or maps for halo,gears,cod4. i hate it when they try and shake you down for more cash when they couldve just out that shit in the game to begin with, or give it away like pc developers did. i hardly ever play games online with friends either because im a virtual loner.
