Rockstar's Social Club is Live!

In anticipation for some time now, and even pushed back a bit, the Rockstar Games Social Club is now open for pre-registration. For those not in the know, the Social Club will allow registered players to view leaderboards, track stats, and generally be connected to Rockstar's community. We're glad to see that more developers are giving their community better tools to provide them with content, as well as keeping interest for their game high. If you're going to be playing a lot of GTA IV (who isn't?) you could do worse than heading over there and setting up a profile. Hell, we did that very thing before you even read this!
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

So uh how to you link your Gamertag?
BrokenMonkey @ Apr 17th 2008 10:44PM
They'll probably let you do it soon enough, in the edit profile section of the site. Just a guess though.
Cal @ Apr 18th 2008 11:51AM
I think it's more likely to be done from the game itself, like EA do with FIFA, where you enter your email and password to link them.
Sorry that I used EA in a GTA sentence =(

It seems like the site is only partialy functioning. There is no way yet (it seems) to link your gamertag. Really, you can't do anything except change your little profile picture. I guess in time, once the game gets closer will they increase the functionality of the site. I guess one can only hope at this point.

Remember, it is technically "Pre-Registration"
Jomolungma @ Apr 17th 2008 10:17PM
I'm not certain on this, but I imagine that R* is doing a pre-registration to seed their database and get an early take on community size. This will help them make sure they have enough servers and bandwidth on the 29th to make the experience worthwhile. I'm sure they think they'll get a lot, and have probably planned for a lot, but as MSFT proved over Christmas, you never have enough hardware.
If they are doing this, there is no reason to take all of the profile information that they will eventually require. Since the Zit and stat tracking services aren't live, they don't need no stinkin' Gamertag or Amazon.com account information right now. I expect that the profile will significantly expand on the 29th as the rest of the site's functionality roles out.

It was up for literally a few minutes, because I was refreshing the page all day, and by the time I'd entered my details and got the email, 12k people had already registered : S

I had the site open on the http://www.rockstargames.com/socialclub/ page (which still says that pre-reg is coming) so I didn't see it till I came here. I got like 19k and something.
In regards to account linking, in the Help FAQs section it says we won't be able to until the site is properly open on the 29th.

Anyone notice a resemblance between the player card and the Gamercard.net version of an Xbox Live gamertag? (grin)
wa27 @ Apr 17th 2008 11:10PM
cool, got member number 10439 :D
nerrrrrrd @ Apr 17th 2008 11:21PM
I wouldn't be surprised if the registration #s actually started at 10,000. I have yet to hear anyone say they're member #09,999 or less!
wa27 @ Apr 17th 2008 11:28PM
Yeah, member numbers started at 10000. They're past 30,000 now, 20 thousand registered in just a few hours!
Don Wilson @ Apr 17th 2008 11:36PM
They've blocked me from registering... Perhaps I selected 1996 instead of 1986 for the year? I think they block by IP because I can't register at all..
WTF. Heaven forbid someone make a mistake using their crappy flash interface.
Halonut1 @ Apr 18th 2008 12:07AM
Flash sites fail, Hard. I mean granted you can make things move and look pretty. But at the cost of speed and effectiveness. i hope the "Main part" of the site isnt flash...

Nothing particularly special about the pre-registration. I'm a little disappointed by my elephant.
Oh and yeah flash=rubbish! As a web designer/developer type person I never use it. It's just plain annoying and for accessibility it's pathetic, hope they change it on the site as it's got some errors which really make it look stuipid.
Johneboy @ Apr 18th 2008 6:31AM
I'm having the same registration problem as other people. My registration has been refused due to their 'privacy policy', which after reading, I still can't see why!!!
And now I'm blocked from trying to register again.
