emirabal @ Apr 18th 2008 2:37PM
Also saw it again, didnt catch that, no blood, but i missed some of the later kombats, was fighting in the air after breaking through a wall possible.
andyg8180 @ Apr 18th 2008 2:38PM
batman.... FINISH HIM!!!
babaility...
Jeremy @ Apr 18th 2008 2:40PM
Um, I don't get it.
Seriously. What fictitious world am I in today?
Dick @ Apr 18th 2008 2:42PM
Man, I didn't see this as being a positive, and the video hasn't moved me away from my poo-poo gun yet.
At the same time, tho, the whole "fighting while falling large distances" gameplay mechanic looked cool.
sku110ne @ Apr 18th 2008 2:44PM
Mortal kombat with no fatalities
what's the point??
(DC will not let their heroes be killed for those that don't know))
x DLC Hero x @ Apr 18th 2008 2:49PM
I called it, the game looks toned down to me. And really isn't that the only thing Mortal Kombat had going for it. I am definitley not one of those fighting game snobs that thinks anything other than Virtua Fighter is beneath them, but when Mortal Kombat loses the gore it loses its appeal. I would much rather have a DC fighter without the inclusion of the MK universe.
Chase @ Apr 18th 2008 2:49PM
This would be funny if it was April 1st. No blood, no fatalities, and incorporating a different universe into your game..... I really like the Mortal Kombat universe, why can't they stick to just that?
x DLC Hero x @ Apr 18th 2008 2:50PM
Yeah, April Fool's was two weeks ago.
Scott @ Apr 18th 2008 2:52PM
I wasn't a negative nancy on this, until they dropped out the gore. If you can't pop off Batmans head, then why bother calling it Mortal Kombat? Now its just Kombat.
ccc @ Apr 18th 2008 2:57PM
LOL, man is this game for real?
And if it is, is it supposed to be an arcade game?
Because it looks like shit!
You hear me Boon, it looks like shit.
EmptyEnergy @ Apr 18th 2008 2:58PM
This looks like an attempt to dethrone Super Smash Bros Brawl for having the most unassociated characters battle.
silentshadowxp @ Apr 18th 2008 3:04PM
actually there was blood in that trailer... only saw it from blows to the face though...
tevetorbes @ Apr 18th 2008 3:07PM
Uh oh- can I start the fanboy flame war?
I mean really, is it likely that ANY Mortal Kombat character could actually take down a shitty DC superhero like Booster Gold LET ALONE somebody pwnful like Batman or, even better, Superman?
Kano vs. Superman- who do you think would win?
:P
Anticrawl @ Apr 18th 2008 3:09PM
Mortal Kombat just keeps getting worse and worse but seriously, they really threw this damn game outta left field. What the fuck man, what the fuck.
Dralthi @ Apr 18th 2008 3:09PM
I'm a little disappointed by this announcement and the video trailer as well.
It's almost as if the MK dev team didn't think the next MK game would have enough meat to it to pull in an audience so they threw the DC characters in to make it more compelling.
I don't see how DC is going to allow it's infamous characters to spurt blood and be decapitated and mangled in the traditional MK fashion. The over-the-top blood, gore, and fatalities is what makes an MK game and if that's gone then I'm seriously worried.
I'm not going to throw this game under the bus quite yet though. We've only seen a little snippet of it. Let's see what else it has up its sleeve before writing this off as lame. If the game-play is fun and compelling enough then it will still have my interest.
x DLC Hero x @ Apr 18th 2008 3:16PM
Midway confirmed to Kotaku that there are no Fatalities and very little blood.
ccc @ Apr 18th 2008 3:17PM
You know, after Boon said there would be no more MK games, then came out and commented on how GOW looked and that was how he invisioned his 3d MK game to look, I was looking forward to the next MK game. But this is ASS and I take this kinda personaly.
Ed Boon has now managed to alienate what few Mortal Kombat fans were left trying to follow the series.
Good going asshole. I hate you.
Gemini Ace @ Apr 18th 2008 3:44PM
I wish it was Marvel vs. DC.
MasterWolf @ Apr 18th 2008 3:45PM
Is anyone even exited at this, the MK series have gone down the drain since MK4, and now they take away what little appeal the series had left, not even Batman can save this game.
Taylor @ Apr 18th 2008 4:03PM
They should bring back Clayfighter!

psychohog @ Apr 18th 2008 4:37PM
Well, I have been a fan since the first MK in the arcades and this just ruins it. Seriously? What is this no fatality shit? Mortal Kombat? This isn't mortal kombat anymore. This is just pathetic. Hopefully if they hear enough complaints(which they will), they may actually think about what they're doing.
SadisticHam @ Apr 18th 2008 4:43PM
Guess I'm the only one who's slightly interested. I guess that's because i hate fighting games and this is something different from the norm.
SleepNeed @ Apr 19th 2008 2:02PM
How tragic. First video game I ever played was Mortal Kombat II in an arcade. Now MK failed to clear over the the shark on it's jump and is now dying a painful death.
kfresh97 @ Apr 18th 2008 8:26PM
He -did- say that there would be no "easy win" fatalities. So maybe finishers are still in there? Also, I definitely saw blood there.
ZeroCorpse @ Apr 19th 2008 1:19AM
OK. I'll play devil's advocate, even though I'm not a big fan of the MK series.
The MK characters are superhuman/supernatural. I mean, Goro, Raiden, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, etc... All would be capable of existing in a super-hero universe.
DC characters are usually SUPER powerful, though. Gods and aliens are DC's forte. For this to work at all, they'd have to keep the DC characters in the same "power range" as the MK cast.
So, as a comic geek, I'm picturing this lineup for DC:
Batman
Deathstroke the Terminator
Nightwing/Robin
Wonder Woman
Killer Croc
Black Canary
Hawkgirl
Cheetah
Mr. Freeze
Lightning
However, they said Superman WILL be in this, which leads me to think they're going to go with the mainstream DC heroes:
Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Flash
Green Lantern
Martian Manhunter
Hawkgirl
Aquaman
. . .Basically, the TV Justice League.
Oh, and how do they make Superman fit without the problem of him being too powerful? Simple. The MK games are based in MAGIC. If Superman is in a magical realm, fighting magical opponents, then he's vulnerable. If the sun is different (or nonexistent) in that realm, then he's at lower power.
That explains Superman's being weak enough not to knock Goro's head off. But what about Wonder Woman? She's pretty powerful in her own right. What about Green Lantern, who can literally do ANYTHING with his ring? What about The Flash, who should be too fast to even see on the screen? What about J'onn J'onzz, who should be damn near invulnerable except when faced with fire?
How will they "power down" the gods and aliens of the DC universe? They probably won't.
This makes it necessary for them to "power up" the MK cast. It's the only thing DC would accept. So expect to see the MK characters get a serious power boost, so they can withstand a punch from Wonder Woman, or do damage to a shielded Green Lantern.
Really, this is just a bad idea.
Chad C @ Apr 20th 2008 11:45PM
well, on a positive note if you look at boon.com , ed boons personal website he says "there will be blood...... in case you were wondering"
so there will be blood, and if theres blood theres gore. and hopefully a nice gory game!
