UT3 will have "Gears 2 related surprise on the disc"

When we got word of the contents of the 360 version of Unreal Tournament 3 we weren't exactly knocked off our feet. Without confirmed mod support, and with so many other shooters to choose from, could UT3 hang with only 5 extra maps? While that question still remains to be answered, the nature of it has shifted a little. In an interview with OXM UK, Mark Rein revealed that "you know, there might be a little Gears Of War 2 related surprise on the disc of Unreal Tournament 3. That's all I'm saying about that."

With news like this it almost makes the UT3 sales guaranteed to jump, even if we don't yet know what the "surprise" will be. Really, it could be anything. A trailer, theme, or stupid picture pack seems likeliest, but if Epic REALLY wants to spike the sales of UT3 we might see something more along the lines of of a playable demo. Hell, why not just take the Crackdown route! Hey everyone listen up! Buy your Gears 2 beta and receive a free copy of UT3!

We wouldn't put it past them.

It'd not be "just like Crackdown" because Crackdown was FAR BETTER than the shitty beta.I'm not sure if I can say that about UT3.

Oh and I bet it's just the GoW2 Fenix Model as a Playable Character or sth like that.

Huh. I thought crackdown sucked, and it was only purchased for my H3 Beta. I just can't get into last gen graphics on now gen systems. (Which is why I won't purchase a Wii)

I didn't mind spending the money for the Beta, but it still pisses me off my Beta purchase also counted as a crackdown purchase. Crackdown: the shittiest cell shading I've ever seen in a game.

Ya know what? The wording of how Mark Rein said that made me think some of the locations or characters in UT3 may be shared with Gears 2. I don't take it to mean there would be a demo or a beta key inside.

It'd be GREAT, sure..but I didn't take it as far as an advertisement for the game.

Im probably going to pick up UT 3 anyways, but I know of atleast 2 people (without even asking them) who will buy UT 3 if it included a GOW 2 beta.

By the way, there will be user generated content in UT 3 in some fashion. If they can't do it freely like they do on ps3 (I hope they can) they are going to send the most popular user created content through microsoft certification and put it up on the marketplace for free.

It really bugs me to no end how many people on sites and forums and such that are too mentally inept to understand how big of a deal losing mod/custom content support is, and simply don't care, don't want to care, and will just say "WUT UT3 SUX IMMA WANT GEARS RAWK!!! HARR HARR".
It's 1) an insult to gamers 2) a slap in the face from Microsoft 3) an insult that people aren't willing to try and SAY anything about it 4) It's also an insult to Epic how little people respect UT, over rubbish like GoW.

I used to be a PC gamer and from my experience, most mods are crap and you have to root through a ton of shit before you find any gems. It's not something major when most of the Mods created are rubbish.

a crapton of custom maps ARE NOT rubbish.. a crapton of maps are rubbish... Most user created UT maps are far better than Epic's, at least as far as UT-UT2k4 goes.
..and there's custom characters...
But the custom maps is the big thing.
(and even so, having one or two good mods is better than having No mods at all.. )

But ignoring mods entirely.. the lack of custom maps is entirely pathetic, and people SHOULD be angry at MS.

I agree with Sadistic Ham. I had the first Unreal Tournament and no one played just the regular game, which meant just to play online I was constantly having to download new shitty levels and mods. Custom content just means there's a million people out there with a million different levels and mods, I'd rather just have a million people playing the same game.

What you fail to understand is that th internet is filled with assholes.I cant count how many mods i have downloaded before i was truly pc knowledgeable had infected my pc with spyware adware etc.

Its inevetible that assholes would create virus ridden files that could kill 360's if these files arent screened properly.Its not like we can open up norton on our 360 do a scan and find the virus.

As far as user content goes its a heap of garbage.I have downloaded many mods in the past for variouse games.They make the game more fun for all about 10 minutes until you realise how bad most mods are.

I will agree there are some gems.But none worth killing my console over.I prefer a secure legit network and thats what i pay for knowing my shit is safe from ass clowns hacking it and destroying it.

Also i own a ps3 as well i picked one up for bluray last month and i dont ever use it for games.I bought unreal with it to see what all the fuss was about downloaded some mods and to be honest wasnt impressed.

This link seems to hint strongly that the 360 version will not have mod support. Although they do try their best to not come right out and say no, I thinks this means that there will be no mod support.

GoW 2 beta? Nah, otherwise Rein wouldn't have word it as if it wasn't a big deal. Gears 2 beta is a BIG DEAL. News would have leaked out already.

I would think Epic will include a Marcus Fenix skin or maybe all the 4 characters. Maybe even Raam. Or maybe a map which resembles any of MP maps from Gears.

Can someone please explain to me why anyone would like GoW over UT?

GoW was a limited game, with no variety in it's gameplay at all.. with tiny maps.. no options, and an abysmal story.

Whilst UT is even worse in the story/presentation regard, at least the gameplay makes up for it, and doesn't entirely consist of "EHEHEHE HE SWORE AND BLOOD AND GUTS HEHEHE BOOM! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE BOOM BOOM!!! BANG!!! PURDY!"

Yeah the Gears story was awful, I'm sure the second one will probably be worse because they're trying to make it all dramatic and emotional and shit. At least Unreal Tournament doesn't even try hard to have a story.

Maybe because the core gameplay itself is about 150 times more fun to most people?

UT at this point is nothing that hasn't been done 100 times before in games that do it much better than it does, Gears with its cover, rolling, and "pretty much the only shooter ever where you can protect yourself/dodge" gameplay is unique and I miss those aspects any time I play any other game.

Having been an ex-PC gamer who's spent a lot of time with Unreal, I can't say the same about that been there, done that series.

I'm really sick of this bull shit marketing stuff to get people to buy games they otherwise wouldn't. It works I guess, but what a shitty tactic.

Also why do people complain about UT3? It's a great game and now that it's coming to the 360 those who don't have a PS3 or game worthy PC can enjoy it, GOW2 surprise or none. But anyone who buys UT3 just for the GOW2 stuff... is nothing but a tool for epic and microsoft.
