UT3 360 will have mods in some form
Well, well, well, what do we have here? Mark Rein dropping more details of Unreal Tournament 3? First was the Gears 2 content tease, now the assumption that the 360 version wouldn't see mods whatsoever seems to be a thing of the past. In the same interview with OXM UK, Mark Rein said "We know some of these great mods are going to play a role on Xbox 360, even if we have to get some people and bring them over ourselves." "We'll figure it out."Now while this is good news in that any form of mod on 360 now is good news, but it's nothing to get too excited about just yet. See, Mark Rein notes that the game will probably not ship with any sort of ability to exchange user created mods, but that Epic would have a solution at some point in the game's future. From the sound of things, and taking into account Microsoft's digital distribution system, UT3 360 will probably have some free (we would hope) DLC at some point in it's life that adds the best of the community-created content.

personally i fink that only getting the best user content is the way 2 go.
Neuromancer @ Apr 20th 2008 11:04AM
Absolutely, built-in quality control. This is going to be the best of both worlds. Hopefully people can stop whining now.
erivera3 @ Apr 19th 2008 2:27PM
Personally I think Unreal Tournament is a boring franchise and the ridiculously fast paced gameplay is horrible.
Kokomadeta @ Apr 20th 2008 6:11AM
Halo was probably your first FPS. That's why people don't appreciate Unreal anymore. Go back and play the original Unreal: the one like Quake. As a matter of fact, why don't you also go play Quake? Maybe play Quake 3 Arena? Doom 3? Return to Castle Wolfenstein? Call of Duty 1, 2, and 4? Maybe if you get some FPS education, you'll learn that Halo isn't the best game ever, and that Unreal is one of the most fun games created.

@ Kokomadeta Why do you think he only plays Halo?
I've played Unreal Tournament on the computer before and while it's kind of fun I personally don't like fast-paced FPSs as much as everyone else. And i'd imagine that by going from keyboard and mouse to a gamepad that Unreal Tournament for consoles would have shit for controls. And DLC instead of user-created mods? Haha, what a steaming pile of shit. And Call of Duty has nothing to do with Quake, Doom, or Unreal so go fuck yourself

if they do it something like bungie favourites and just have the best of the best each week available for download id be pretty cool with that
rockeranimefreak @ Apr 19th 2008 2:53PM
I agree with Webster! they should have Epic Favorites or something to that extent.
bigmac375 @ Apr 19th 2008 5:58PM

good luck waiting for that ish like this almost never see's the light of day i hope it does for sake of anyone that buys this but i have a hard time be leaving that microsoft will not charge for this . Also i think a week or 2 ago i could of swore i read something some where that someone from microsoft said that sony was making a mistake for allowing mods and user created content on they're console and went on about how xna is a better solution for user created content . So like i said its so hard to be leave that microsoft is gonna let this fly we'll see i hope im wrong cause i would like to play this with the mods and other stuff people can whip up so here's hoping
JakubK666 (Ninja Defence Force) @ Apr 19th 2008 3:31PM
Well...you can't write viruses for XNA but then again, not everybody wants to buy an expensive membership.

It was all separate DLC for each new mod then you can just imagine the costs Microsoft would put for them. I mean c'mon, they are not going to give everything away for free even if Epic wants (like Gears).
Zeus.:God @ Apr 19th 2008 4:44PM
This is why Epic is the best. They do whatever they need to to get their shit to the players; as the always have done with us PC gamers.
NvM @ Apr 19th 2008 4:54PM
Maybe they've made their own Forge-like mode.
DaxterKing @ Apr 19th 2008 5:27PM
Chris, the only reason MS had any say in whether the Gears content was free is because they published it. The publisher chooses the price, so this time, it'd be up to Midway.
EDW @ Apr 19th 2008 5:35PM
well it's a lot better than nothing. i demand the Master Chief and Marcus Fenix character models!
Procris @ Apr 19th 2008 7:22PM
I have to disagree, i don't find the "best user content" the way to go. For starters, who exactly chooses this content? If its anything like Bungie favourites, it barely ever gets updated and is practically the most underused featured of the game.
Not to mention this is 100% no replacement from real mod support, which to point out the PS3 version had. The is sales "hype" or hope as i'm going to call it. Lets be realistic, we will never see Mod content in the 360 version because Microsoft are being stubborn and can't come to a compromise. If they are worried about it being exploited, they could work closely with Epic to make a secure delivery system that is 100% seperate to XBL but no, they can't be bothered.
Its just not going to happen and theres no way Epic is going to constantly on a monthly basis sift through the PC/PS3 mods and then "port them" to 360. I say port, because anything that goes up on XBL has to go through certification. Do you see them doing certification for tones of mods? I personally don't. It takes them long enough to test 4 maps.
Gears of War sold a lot for Epic, but ever since they released the last map pack, they pretty much instantly dropped support. Good luck buying UT3 for 360 and a year later they stop "bringing" "popular" mods over. I don't own a PS3 but i seriously consider us 360 owners getting jipped. Yay some exclusive maps that can be instantly copied by the PC/PS3 mod community and 2 new characters that can also be remodelled by the PC/PS3 mod community. SO what ever way you look at it, you buying UT3 but with its mod support stripped away. Thats not worth $60 to me.

The MP functionality of live is going to be a big plus with this game - I'll take it and wait for mods to come at a later date. While it's cool on the PS3, aside from the private games I play with friends...they're not used in the GP. Plus...it's kind of a pain - everyone you game with needs to have the same mods installed (especially character) or they don't show up. The maps...eh. Some are cool. You also have to d/l them, there is no autodownload of maps like you get on the PC. And, the mods need to be loaded one at a time on the PS3...you can't grab a bunch and rename files, etc...each mod carries the same USERDATA.JAM name, and the PS3 won't read any variation (ex: USERDATA_1.JAM, ETC).
...and a big thank you to the news folks for the UTIII news!

I love my box and all, but I do believe MS is way too money hungry to allow free user created downloads ............. damn those capitalist dogs!......
el swordo @ Apr 20th 2008 9:54AM
man i already bought the game for ps3 the other day for $25. it's just so funny to see people putting xbox characters into a ps3 game.
IanC @ Apr 20th 2008 1:32PM
This seems like a good idea. Digging round the 'net to find the best mods for the PS3 version is a slow process.
