Community Content: Smells Like a Rat Edition
Each week, X3F showcases the best in Halo 3 downloads with Community Content. To find out how to set up your Bungie.net account, click here. Submit your own ideas at: comcon [AT] xbox360fanboy [DOT] com
A few technical issues forced us to release this week's Community Content a few days late, but we're such big fans of this week's map that we think it'll be worth the wait!
This week in Community Content we bring you a new take on Rat's Nest. A closed off interior lined with vehicles, strategic equipment placements and a single territory that gives the controlling team dibs on the lone tank makes this version of Rat's Nest into something fierce. Made for almost any gametype, the map called Rodent's Abode is as fun as it is dangerous. And by that we mean lots.

Content Creator: Muffin Man1
Rodent's Abode
Map: Rat's Nest (Heroic Map Pack Required)
Players: 8-12
Gametype: Assault, CTF, King of the Hill, Territories, (Team) Slayer
Details from the Creator
The map is not a novelty map, it has been designed for fun gameplay (I don't know if it works competitively, I play for fun and make maps based on fun). There are a few tricks to it what with some hidden weapons (although once everyone you play with knows where they are the game gets a lot more interesting).
Of course the tank in the middle plays a big part in the game. Anyone who has the tank can pretty much dominate the outer circuit for a short time. Since there so many heavy weapons, vehicles and equipment on the map a tank can get you at least 4 kills before you're taken out.
Each base starts with a power drainer, two mongoose, a chopper and a Gauss Warthog. Each base has a symmetrical layout with a needler, plasma rifle and mauler on each side and two battle Rifles. Each base has the upper and lower areas covered with shield doors so nobody can camp the base with a vehicle (the door with the colored hallway on each is base is not shielded).

What's with the lag?
Richard Mitchell @ Apr 21st 2008 9:46AM
If you see a red team member lagging, it was probably me. I was busy uploading XBLA in Brief at the time, so I was lagged to hell. I still managed to stick Xav though :)

Yeah, quite the laggy match.
Nevertheless, I appreciate all of the gameplay footage as per many requests in your previous features. These are definitely coming along nicely, and doing their job to get me excited for the content!
Can't say I am particularly fond of giant shield doors, however. I'll have to pass on this one, heh.

That looks like way more fun than default Rat's Nest... I'll have to download it.

Didn't know what you meant at first but now I see it.
I don't typically edit text submitted from readers, but maybe I should be (since we didn't write that, see the heading DETAILS FROM CONTENT CREATOR).

Didn't mean to imply you had done anything wrong, just know lots of kids read this site and felt a need to point it out. You know I love this site... I'm here way too much.

This is all very informative and helpful, but I would like to offer some constructive criticism.
It seems like you are tense and glued to a script, which does not add to the overall entertainment value. Maybe as you go on doing this, you will become more natural. I think I speak for most of this community when I say that all we really want you to do is just talk to us about the content, and give us some interesting opinions.
Also, after watching a few of these, it becomes noticeable when the mic cuts off very shortly after you stop talking. Going from a static filled mic to crystal clear gameplay audio repeatedly can get quite annoying. This annoying factor is amplified as the video goes on and the cuts become more frequent.
I think that all of these new features X3F is doing are wonderful, and I hope that you see that my best interests are in the overall improvement of the site, not simply trolling.
