Rumor: GTAIV may get entire new city DLC
In the back of our fanboy minds we're all fully aware that Microsoft's $50 million Grand Theft Auto IV DLC purchase will give 360 gamers an extra bullet point over the competition all while giving us more GTAIV to love. But never in our wildest dreams did we think the 360 exclusive GTAIV DLC would be huge, new city huge ... but that's what the latest rumor is on the streets. A GTAIV article that ran in the print edition of CVG claims that DLC expansions "are to GTA IV what Vice City or San Andreas were GTA III" and that "Rockstar is clearly hinting at new downloadable cities". Expansions that could open Liberty City up to suburbs, entirely new cities or returning classics like San Andreas or Vice City. We don't want to get too excited seeing that such DLC talk is planted firmly in the rumor garden, but if the DLC turns out to be new city size in scale then we'd dance around our house like little GTAIV school girls. Yes sir, that would be awesome.

The Sound @ Apr 20th 2008 12:48PM
How old are you?
Zeus.:God @ Apr 20th 2008 1:47PM
He's gotta' be 10 or something... He's a total 360 fanboy... Now, I realize this is the "360 fanboy" site, but, this guy is just plain retarded.
EMOruffino @ Apr 20th 2008 6:36PM
@Zeus.:God :
I have been following some of your most recent posts and everytime someone replies to something you reply to them and say that their a fanboy.
STFU! Not everything is fanboytism. I love my linux, but i still rock out on VISTA. I play 360 when i broke my ps3.
what are you going to reply to me saying now? Hes a Douchbag fanboy?
---
Sorry... i just feel sick today.
Zeus.:God @ Apr 21st 2008 12:00AM
Emo, Emo, Emo... What am I going to do with you?
Wretched is a fanboy. There is no arguing that. He is a mindless, driveling, fanboy with no more sense in his head than an ant. If you were to try and argue this, then I'm afraid someone would have to put you in an insane asylum.
Who the fuck cares if I call out the fanboys? What, do you want to have some of the "action" as well? Here. Go ahead. Call someone a fanboy- its not just limited to me. I just call them as I see them... However, you must make sure they meet the following criterion:
1) Devoid of all logic.
2) Nonsensical bias.
3) Troll the site looking to pick arguments.
4) Can't back up said arguments.
If they meet those 4 indicators, then they are a fanboy, and it is up to you to call them as such.
Happy hunting.
TORO @ Apr 21st 2008 9:53AM
Who gives a shit if he's a fanboy, is that supposed to be an insult??? lol
gj wretched keep up the fanboyism ;)
Tom @ Apr 20th 2008 12:18PM
I want to see this be actually true--then see the Joystiq networks redo the poll on which version people are getting. :p
Joe @ Apr 20th 2008 12:18PM
Hmm, I never expected anything that would rival Shivering Isles for DLC expansion awesomeness.
The Sound @ Apr 20th 2008 12:50PM
This would be cool, but I would be surprised if it were actually it.
Don't get me wrong, I know MS paid a crap load of money for it, but just a feeling tells me it won't be quite as exciting as people are making it to be.
That, or it will cost almost as much as a new game, at which point, it would be better to buy another game, considering how long this game (most likely) will actually be.
Digitalspirit @ Apr 20th 2008 2:57PM
Why not? Look at how well the CoD4 map pack did and think about how well GTAIV DLC of this magnitude would do ... :)
JakubK666 (Ninja Defence Force) @ Apr 20th 2008 4:16PM
ummm...yeah but how do I say that...Sixaxis kinda...suck ass.It was more of Sony's attempt to jump onto the bandwagon than genuine feature.
The Sound @ Apr 20th 2008 5:18PM
@Digitalspirit: They would be different. (I don't own COD4 (shame on me!) so if I'm wrong, correct me) the COD4 maps are just multiplayer maps. For this, since it has been stated that MS bought 'episodic dlc' would mean that more to the single player game would be made. If they are adding to entirely new cities, then they would need to make more than a map, AI, Missions, cars, etc. Essentially making a new game
Which is why I said it might be better to just buy a new game instead of the episodes, unless you're a hardcore GTA fan. That is if they are supposed to cost $30-40....
c. thomas @ Apr 20th 2008 7:17PM
Even if the dlc cost that much the replay value will be awesome, and on the other-hand, MS paid 50million 25 for each, so yeah I can picture whole cities. Especially when both companies will make triple the amount back.
Joe @ Apr 20th 2008 1:24PM
Oh wait, this no longer interests me. Just read that GTA IV will "get the full sixaxis treatment on PS3." What a shame, I feel so much... envy ;)
The Sound @ Apr 20th 2008 5:19PM
Psh, if they can use it in, erm, [i]creative[/i] ways, then I'm sold. =D
The Sound @ Apr 20th 2008 5:20PM
Whoops, too used to typing on a forum. Forget the [i][/i] tags please.
Joe @ Apr 20th 2008 5:22PM
Now that [b]might[/b] be fun! :P
andyface @ Apr 20th 2008 1:27PM
wow, that would be so many kinds of awesome.
However I have to drink from the glass of scepticism and nibble the quiche of cynicism by saying if this is indeed true then it will cost quite a large amount of Microsoft Points, however it may be the thing that pushes me into the buying MsP realm.
Kasey Johnson @ Apr 20th 2008 1:37PM
On the Uncle Gamer podcast, Paris said that from what he has been hearing the DLC is being treated like a full game and will be priced for like 30 dollars.
andyface @ Apr 20th 2008 3:58PM
damn you currency conversion rate, I got mildly confused and was going to say "...so almost the same price as the original game then." but then it occurred to me that $30 != £30 (http://www.w3schools.com/PHP/php_operators.asp). However UK it'll probably still cost £20, we like to pay more for things here.
I also agree with the comment by webster1990 (birthdate?) that it could potentially be a very large file, unless they've developed a clever way of compressing mapping data (not sarcasm by the way).
Arno @ Apr 20th 2008 1:29PM
Bring it on!!
Jeff @ Apr 20th 2008 1:44PM
I doubt this is true. It seems that if MS had such an ace they would have played it by now. If MS wanted to use this extra content to convince people who own both consoles, or neither console to buy GTAIV for the 360 rather than the PS3 they would need to reveal it prior to the title launch and before people have already made thier purchase. Even if they believe this extra content could make someone who already bought GTAIV for the PS3 buy a second copy for the 360(which I think is unlikely) they have lost the chance to keep money out of Sony's hands.
Zeus.:God @ Apr 20th 2008 1:50PM
They may still use it, as they have claimed their GTA IV campaign will be as big as Halo 3's (I doubt it will) but they still could.
L4MB @ Apr 20th 2008 2:18PM
yeah, considering the launch is in like 2 weeks, they would have had to start a 'Halo-3-sized' marketing campaign months ago.
Zeus.:God @ Apr 20th 2008 2:25PM
Yeah, but that campaign doesn't have to start that early because they have a competing console. They will have to start it before, but also have to hold it for a while after the launch to make sure people know, when it's released, the "better" version is on the 360.
George Arauz @ Apr 20th 2008 7:04PM
Now that would be friggin cool
wa27 @ Apr 20th 2008 2:04PM
Cmon, lets be realistic...
webster1990 @ Apr 20th 2008 2:39PM
does this mean i will have to fork out for the 120GB hdd so i can use this without deleting everything else on my 20GB hdd?
JakubK666 (Ninja Defence Force) @ Apr 20th 2008 2:51PM
In before SDF. We SERIOUSLY need to assemble our own Microsoft Defence Force.
mclogo @ Apr 20th 2008 4:42PM
hmm... I guess this is a rumor
1. stupid, if they wouldn't have used it earlier to get more people getting the 360 version
2. a whole city downloadable? Either everybody needs to buy a 120GB HDD or the city is a bigger village
But I believe that the DLC will be worth it's money ;)
EmptyEnergy @ Apr 20th 2008 5:41PM
Really no one knows what DLC is in store for the 360. And from the comments, no one knows what pricing they will have. Hmmm.
If its $20, that's more of an expansion pack than episodic content. How was Shivering Isles anyways?
TheMan726 @ Apr 20th 2008 6:33PM
not gonna happen
c. thomas @ Apr 20th 2008 7:22PM
Um, 50 million dollars. 25 million for each, take-two will spend that on the content, besides they know software is best on 360 so, they will make a lot back. Plus, it might just back EA off from buying them. So yeah its true.
topperx2 @ Apr 20th 2008 9:49PM
i love this idea, but i'm not gonna get my hopes too high.... i should prolly buy GTAIV before i worry about DLC... ;)
Shane @ Apr 20th 2008 11:10PM
This sounds cool but i dont know.
ill be happy if its like GTA:LSS to GTA 3. so it uses the same map and stuff we just get a whole new game?? like story and stufff, that would make me happy.
UNSCleric @ Apr 20th 2008 11:16PM
I believe this to be true.
john macdonald @ Apr 21st 2008 1:26AM
a couple of my freinds are looking to buy a console just for GTA im trying to get them to go 360 but most are leaning to ps3 since they had both ps1/ps2 before, i keep mentioning the additional content on 360 but they just think it will be extra side missions(if it is id get ps3 version aswell).
if they go ps3 which i reckon they will im going to get it for ps3 and by the time the dlc is out and if i hear its good/big ill pick the game up cheap second hand for 360.
it would be nice if R*/M$ would release details of the DLC to convince people eitherway tho, maybe sony talked R* in to not revealing info just like they got them to release the game on all consoles at same time?
Boff @ Apr 21st 2008 5:32AM
As much as I'd like this to be true I can't see it happening.
A new city? That's gonna be a big ol' download! Not to mention cost (to us, the consumers).
If you think about the man-hours needed to create, test and tweak something like that it just doesn't seem feasible to me.
But hopefully I'll be proven wrong and it is a new city!
joey @ Apr 21st 2008 9:26AM
Maybe it's Staten Island
Scott Ores @ Apr 22nd 2008 10:12AM
Be realistic people when they suggest new maps they are probably talking about new islands that connect on to your bigger map just like in the rest of the games, the new areas will most likely be smaller then your main island as to not make the download too big, the biggest download will probably be the size of maybe one of the xbl originals, a game disc is 4.7 gigs right the whole disc isn't just maps they have to have a game engine and all the rest of the mexhanics to make the game maybe a gig of that is maps on any given disc so think about it, the download wouldn't be that big, if you don't have a gig then get rid of some of the saves from your old games you don't play anymore......
jules c @ Apr 22nd 2008 2:06PM
Not going to happen any time soon, It's just too hard to do in a short time and make it as deep a city as we would like without any bugs.
