Earthworm Jim 4 announced, platform unknown

While many gamers of the 360 generation will not know of the antics of Earthworm Jim, those more ancient gamers will recall Princess What's-Her-Name, Psy-Crow, and others. When the rumors began that there would be a continuation of the franchise, we were admittedly excited. Now, we discover that Earthworm Jim 4 will happen and that the original creator, Douglas TenNapel, is back on the series as a creative consultant (he's also working on a cartoon and movie based on the property.) There were no other details announced (not even a platform), but given the changes in the industry since the series' heyday, we'd love to see Earthworm Jim 4 take some sort of alternative to the usual "reinventions" of franchises. Perhaps a 2D side-scroller/platformer with 3d character models, released on XBLA (maybe even with episodic content?). Yeah, that's a nice dream.

The last Earthworm Jim game was horrible. Here's hoping he's improved in these last... 10 years or whatever it's been.

GRAH OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVY
As long as there is no more puppy level...
willxcore @ Apr 22nd 2008 10:25PM
Damn, it's sad to think that some gamers today would have no idea what Earthworm Jim is all about. 1 and 2 were excellent. The 3D one was pretty bad. Here's hoping they bring back some classic gameplay.

They will if there is some arcade lovin ;)
AnOffday @ Apr 22nd 2008 10:52PM
Awesome. Now just announce MDK3 and we'll be all set.
EC @ Apr 22nd 2008 11:28PM
That's awesome. I miss the Earthworm Jim games! I just hope they keep with the 2D. Or have it "2.5D" as some call it.

Wait wasn't a PSP earthworm Jim game announced back in 07?
I would love a remade of the original in 2d.5 for the PSP or in the xbox live.
Groovy!

This should be a good arcade title!

Any one ever watch the cartoon? It ran during 94-95.

Thank God. I don't know how I've managed to live so long without a videogame about a worm. Ok, just kidding. Earthworm Jim was one of my favorite franchises for the 16-bit era and I am psyched to hear that the franchise is being revived. A new game, new TV series, and a feature length film? The only thing left is a XBLA remake of the first two games.

I watched the cartoon. In fact that's all I know of EJ since I never played the games. The first two are coming to Wii virtual console (am I allowed to mention that here? lol) so that'll be cool. Maybe 4 will be on every system like so many games are lately.

I'm pretty psyched to hear the news. I'm a big fan of EWJ but I remember those games being obscenely difficult at times. When I was a kid I just COULDN'T beat that blimp level. Maybe now if I revisit it the game won't be so bad but I have some bittersweet memories of that game.

Whoooaaaaah Nellie!
And you can call me a strong member of the 360 generation. This is the console that converted me from PC gaming.
All I can say is I want another chance at Professor Monkey for a Head. That would be sweeeeeeeet.
LiquidPlague @ Apr 23rd 2008 8:58AM
"Earthworm Jim! He is a groovy guy!"
I actually picked it up used for Gameboy Advance a couple of years ago. It was like putting on an old glove, a bit moist and kind of smelly; a perfect fit.
The Fuzz 53 @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:23AM
Hold the phone for just one second. There was an Earthworm Jim 3?
Sunny @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:55AM
I would love it if they would just revive the PSP game they were working on that retold #1 and #2.
James @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:29AM
Call me a heretic, but I think I might prefer an MDK3 to an Earthworm Jim 4.
Neuromancer @ Apr 23rd 2008 12:29PM
Heretic.
Who can forget bungee jumping against a sentient pile of snot as a boss bottle?
I actually liked the Peter Puppy level, I thought he was a cute little guy... Until he got hurt that is.
Insomnious @ Apr 23rd 2008 1:16PM
Jim is a blind cave salamander.
FRESH!
